White Nights, Fyodor Dostoevsky
The "we'll suit" scene exemplifies this: in order to prove to Eloise that they are compatible, Phillip shows her that they are sexually compatible. He's conflating sexual chemistry with love, which is frustrating to read in a (supposed) romance story. I'm all for conflicts in stories, but they need to be resolved in a satisfying manner.
Thinking I might give it another go, maybe find the slightest hint of something worthwhile about it that could be used for Eloise's season.
Me throughout the re-read
"I hate Sir Phillip, I hate Sir Phillip, I hate Sir Phillip"
Guy starts off bad and then gets worse. Eloise slowly loses her soul and her spirit trying to accommodate him. Sir Phillip has to be one of the most selfish, lazy, loathsome characters I have ever read, and he doesn't get better, he doesn't improve, he doesn't actually do anything to be worthy of Eloise's love, he just gets coddled.
he delights that he's got a sex doll who takes care of his house and kids for hmi and he thinks that's love. He tells Eloise she isn't allowed to be unhappy in their marriage, despite the fact he ignores her all through the day except for when he wants sex, because he had it worse.
This is the conclusion by the way. This is them having their happily ever after. This is how the conflict is resolved. Phillip ordering Eloise to be happy, and Eloise feeling so guilty she agrees.
Kill Sir Phillip. Kill him with fire.
I swear to God if they keep Eloise with him in the show and he is anything like his book character, I'm throwing a shoe at my TV.
For @femininomen0n 's prompt, Cardinal.
'The cardinal rule for attracting suitors,' Violet had told Eloise, 'is to keep a happy, welcoming demeanour at all times.'
Eloise stared at herself in the mirror, furrowing her brows deeper, and wondering if baring her teeth with a snarl would be a step too far.
jane austen was right!!!!! i AM half agony half hope!!!!! if i loved you less i COULD talk about it more!!!!!!!! i WAS in the middle before i knew i had begun!!!!!!!

Here's a snippet from Born To Die (my Theloise Hunger Games AU)!
One panic attack and two bottles of an unknown--but undoubtedly alcoholic--drink later, Anthony had calmed down considerably. (In all fairness, the sight of one’s sister on a train ride to near-certain death was enough reason to get thoroughly inebriated.) Theo watched as Anthony poured himself a third drink.
I love them!
the irony of having eloise call cressida "the viper that she invited into her home" to penelope of all fucking people. I turned the show off after that and i doubt i will ever turn it back on.
penelope, who eloise invited into her home, who spent years using her closeness to the bridgertons for her own gain. penelope, who eloise confided so many secrets in, who turned around and published them knowing full well it could spell ruin for the bridgertons--specifically the bridgerton women.
penelope is the viper, and to try and play it any other way, to try and push that label onto cressida, and to assassinate eloise's character(and colin's, the rest of the bridgertons, and lady danbury and every other character that was forced support this LW bullshit to prop penelope up) isn't just lazy. it's a fucking joke.
