this bright yellow cardinal, affectionately known as “tweets”, currently resides on the university of florida campus. typically male cardinals are a distinctive red; this bird’s coloration is due to a genetic mutation called xanthochromism. xanthochromic birds lack an enzyme that properly converts yellow to red, leaving pigments in their body the original yellow.

i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors
one character design thing id recommend is don’t be afraid to explore drawing different body types epically when drawing exaggerated proportions. it can do a lot for simple designs and can create some fun characters
the coppery-bellied puffleg is a hummingbird species found only in colombia and venezuela. they are named for the unusual white “puffs” of feathers on their legs - it’s unknown why exactly the puffleg species have evolved this trait. these birds are somewhat elusive, and not much research has been done on them, but it is known that destruction of their native habitat is negatively impacting population size.
