u know what makes me cry..... that one van gogh quote about life changing for the better..... “many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. and it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘what do i care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ yes, evil often seems to surpass good. but then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. one morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. and so i must still have hope.” yeah..... Crying....
When you live for centuries, you can see the extremities of time flowing around you. Your skin never fades, but your mind is always scratching itself with wisdom. Like sandpaper, it whittles just the top, things that aren't important to have. You find yourself carving out memories in wood and writing conversations in books. You convince yourself of the immortality of the written word, yet fail to recognize the wilting of paper.
Did you forget who they were? Who you were around them was different than who you are now. Your mind lives with termites and book worms. Faces crinkle and crack as time gives their once youthful faces wrinkles. Even fire is dangerous. Burning through a library of stories told only by yourself.
Did you know when you were young? As time speeds by, their faces get harder and harder to remember. Once they left you, once you left them. The pictures in your mind only remained for so long. Sure others could speak of them, but what happened to the words of the story? Twisted after every passing. Will they even live in the future?
You may be infinite, but your mind will forever be landscaped. Soon you will look in the mirror, and see a different person than you ever were. Your eyes are almost the same. But they’re scared. What you see is different from what you saw when you were young. Were you ever young? Or have you been stuck being fleetingly curious.
You look in the mirror at your own reflection, your own perfect body. And realize, you’ve changed. You may have forgotten them, their words barely living on paper. But you’ve found yourself able to move on. They’ve helped you through life, and living forever has never really helped anyone.
