🚨 Help Save Shada’s Family and Baby Adam! 🚨

My name is Shada Kassab, and I am a 24-year-old mother living in Gaza. Every day is a fight for survival for me, my husband Hussein, and our baby boy Adam, who is just five months old.

Our lives have been turned upside down by war. My home has been reduced to rubble, and my husband lost his water truck, which was our only source of income. We’ve been forced to evacuate twice—from Deir el Balah to the Nuseirat camp—and now, we live in constant fear of what the future holds.

To make matters worse, Adam was born with clubfoot and urgently needs surgery. The cost for his treatment and specialized medical boots is at least $3000, but this surgery isn’t even possible in Gaza.

šŸ’” I need your help to save my family and give Adam a future. Even a small donation 5$ can bring us closer to safety, and if you can’t donate, sharing our story means the world to us.

If you were to sit me down and tell me about a show where there are two characters, one embodies science, the other politics, and they are ideologically opposed, but both their ideologies have been shaped and defined by their upbringing and then you proceed to tell me that the politician wants to militarise the scientist's work but eventually tries to protect it from being militarised going against their own family to do so, then you tell me that they both end up being revealed as/turned into mages, one artificial and one natural and they have matching beauty marks on their faces and the artificial one in an attempt to unify and equalise the world that is riddled with poverty and segregation btw tries to turn everybody into magical robots that have the other mage's colour scheme...

I would say... okay and when do they kiss??

And then you break it to me that they don't even have a one on one conversation ever.

I would combust into flames.

The ā€œDeviantā€ African Genders That Colonialism Condemned - JSTOR Daily
European travellers and anthropologists found that their gendered worldview didn’t easily map onto the societies they encountered.

What it meant to be a woman in many African pre-colonial societies was not rigid. ā€œAmong the Langi of northern Uganda,ā€ writes Sylvia Tamale, dean of the faculty of Law at Makerere University Uganda, ā€œthe mudoko dako, or effeminate males, were treated as women and could marry men.ā€ There were also the Chibados or Quimbanda of Angola, male diviners whom, some scholars have argued, were believed to carry female spirits through anal sex.

[…]

This practice of same-sex marriage was documented in more than 40 precolonial African societies: a woman could marry one or more women if she could secure the bridewealth necessary or was expected to uphold and augment kinship ties. The idea that a female could be a husband perplexed Europeans, and often lead to fantastical conclusions.

Wanted to share an article about pre-colonial African gender identities! The article is really great!Ā

also;

these are my thoughts on the specific plot threads you feel were neglected — again, i’m not hating or anything. for the most part i agree with your stance on the pacing feeling off, i’m just putting in my two cents.

1. a lot came out of jinx being the face of the revolution actually..? i get the feeling of wanting more but it wasn’t a throwaway plot point for nothing. in times of crisis and oppression under the rule of the kirraman/noxus alliance jinxers looked to jinx as a symbol of hope. she was the image of their rebellion, the undercity was forming factions yes, but for a reason greater than themselves - no more petty squabbles, the enemy is topside. jinx whether intentional or not, made them realise that.

2. ekko needed to save his tree was the catalyst and a necessary step to him encountering the wild rune in order to save the world. if not for his tree dying, ekko would have no reason to step foot in piltover seeking help from jayce of all people. this decision is deliberate. ekko is as responsible for everything happening as jayce is, he is little man — he sent them on that job, he knew jayce as ā€œthe boy who didn’t haggleā€. i don’t believe that decision was by mistake. this is further confirmed in the alternate reality where jayce and vi are dead, hextech ceases to exist, zaun appears to be independent or at the very least civil with piltover. to save his community he needed to take that leap, and leave a few people behind.

3. ehh, an exploration of vi’s trauma would be nice? but vi isn’t that kind of character. she’s closed off, a fighter, always on guard. not as weathered down as jinx who constantly expresses her internal battle with herself or caitlyn who masks her pain in the facade of control. there’s sprinkles of her trauma throughout the show in both seasons but an entire segment dedicated to it seems like a bold/risky decision from a writers perspective. her relationships with others is what makes her who she is, without them she is nothing/stagnant. she needs people to protect/keep alive or else she’s not living up to her promise — vander’s last wish.

^ also like, eldest daughter syndrome go brrr

4. caitlyn does realise the error of her ways, again it’s in small tidbits and hidden in the details. she doesn’t just ā€œget with viā€ because she wants to, there are moments where you see the gears in her brain turning and she looks uncomfortable or conflicted about what’s happening. sure it’s not explicit and doesn’t take up space in the grand scheme of things, which is what i think you wanted more of. but i promise you it’s there.

5. sevika got done dirty and also not at the same time? she was the character i wish we squeezed more out of. thematically speaking, her journey from henchman to a leader and the face of zaun makes sense and is absolutely perfect in every conceivable way. she evidence of the ā€œoldā€ zaun, one that relied on loyalty, she was there during the revolution, during silco’s takedown and his inevitable fall (sorta). i just wish she found out that jinx killed him so we could see how she would process that. but she deserves to be at that table. i wish we got to see more but i don’t think it’s by mistake either, there’s so much to explore with her, who knows?

Arcane Season 2 ā€˜s pacing is atrocious and nothing is ever properly followed up. Jinx being the face of Zaun’s revolution? Nothing comes out of it. Ekko trying to find a way to save his community from the Hextech infection and learn more about his efforts of saving Zaun? Dropped and he is absent from Act 2 until reappearing in Act 3. An exploration of Vi’s trauma? Unexplored to focus on her relationship with Caitlyn and Jinx. Caitlyn realizing the error of her ways? Skipped over so she can get with Vi. Viktor’s journey to becoming the Machine Herald out of his own choice? Sped over with Singed doing it for him. Sevika leading Zaun? Skipped over until the end where she is now a council member representing Zaun. Mel got a proper solo arc but her screentime was limited.

i sorta agree with this? but there are some things i feel you may have overlooked in your analysis of the pacing.

season one was a slow trainwreck, we knew the outcome from episode one and everything was building up to the inevitable. for me it felt like being in the passenger seat of a car stuck on a train track, you can hear the sound of the gate closing, see the lights flashing, feel the ground shake as the train approaches with no means of getting out. season one was controlled chaos.

season two, had the impossible task of living up to the impeccably high expectations of its fans because of the masterful tragedy they were able to write. this is the aftermath of the train collision, you’re alive but you don’t understand how — everything is a blur, piecing through how everything led up to that point is confusing.

i personally feel that the uneasy action-packed fast pace benefits the story and works thematically for what it wishes to achieve. i write a lot, and as i writer i found some of the decisions arcane’s writing team took to be things i would’ve done had i have been in their shows.

there were times it was too hard to predict anything (especially early on) because of the direction they were going with the story. what they’ve managed to achieve is no easy feat, and writing endings is never easy.

i doubt if there was another season it would lessen the blow, it’s bittersweet that it had to end in just two seasons but i believe they’ve done an excellent job even if the pacing feels a little iffy on its own. as a collective piece, i think it compliments the first season.

Arcane Season 2 ā€˜s pacing is atrocious and nothing is ever properly followed up. Jinx being the face of Zaun’s revolution? Nothing comes out of it. she’s such an incredibly well written character, i love the arc she went on. from banishment to self exile, she may no longer be a passenger in her own story but she is alone in her journey. i trust that she finds her way and carves her own path, remembering to be both the wolf and the fox in order to honour her heritage. after all, she is the last living merdara…

the tragedy of mel, actually. she loses her family twice, she loses her partner, she loses herself, and when she tries to make things right, she becomes the wolf, and sails away with the noxians in the colors of the mother she loved and killed

You know what is so sad?

It's likely that Jayce and Viktor will go down as villains, despite the people who knew them knowing otherwise, knowing it was tragedy that came from love and desperation.

Jayce, because he was the face of hextech, because he was always the one who did the speeches and got his pictures on the wall, will be seen as the guy who created the monster that almost doomed them. All people might hear was that Jayce tried saving his partner with magic (that neither of them, in hindsight, should have been messing with) and it almost doomed them all.

Viktor will go down as the villain too. People will talk about how his "healing" did nothing but doom and control those who only wanted help. How his followers blindly turned to him and became weapons. How he became the monster that caused endless destruction. How he almost started the apocalypse. All for some sort of hivemind endlessness.

Except for the very few, no one will remember the kind men who sought to change the world for the better. Know one will really know how much they wanted to avoid making weapons (and lets not even talk about how Viktor, who was so determined for it not to happen, became the weapon itself) and save the people who needed it the most.

Its such a tragedy for the two men who once stole keys to an office and risked exile, just so they could prove they were right (and float happily and endlessly together) and try and change the world.

Just. Fuck.

GIVE IT UP FOR THE BOY SAVIOURRRR !!!

DON’T SLEEP ON MY BOY >:(((

Ekko literally saved everything didn't he? Yeah Jayce got Viktor to see the light (literally) but that wouldn't have happened if Ekko hadn't risked LITERALLY EXPLODING HIMSELF to reverse time!

Ekko said "JAYCE YOU GET ONE LAST CHANCE TO REIN YOUR MAN IN YOU BETTER DO IT RIGHT!"

and he was sooooo real for that.

The Hexcore knew it had to fling Ekko as far away as possible for it's best chance at ascension and my boi went BITCH YOU THOUGHT!!!!! Magic ain't got nothin' on me motherfucker!!! I LIVED BITCH!!!
