As a Canadian, watching episode 8 was a treat.
First the notes only appeared on her bedroom window, but after a few weeks she found one in every single room she entered.
here’s to all the people whose lives will be endangered for the next four years. here’s to all the people who aren’t white, straight, cis, male, rich, old, abled or Christian.
here’s to the Jewish people, and Muslims, and Buddhists, and Sikhs, and atheists, and other non-Christian religions.
here’s to gay people, and lesbians, and transgender people, and bisexual people, and asexual people, and intersex people, and pansexual people, and agender people, and genderfluid people, and everyone else who isn’t straight or cis.
here’s to women, trans and cis and genderfluid and agender and intersex and otherwise. here’s to women who won’t be able to get an abortion or seek help from planned parenthood.
here’s to black people, and to brown people, and to Hispanics, and to Latinx people, and to people of Asian descent, and to Native Americans, and to mixed people, and to everyone else who isn’t white. here’s to the immigrants who don’t know if they’ll be able to stay in the same country as their family.
here’s to the young people who’ll be in debt for decades because of college tuition. here’s to the young people who can’t even afford to go to college in the first place.
here’s to people who can’t afford to go to college. here’s to people who can’t get a well paying job because of their gender, race, sexual identity, or otherwise. here’s to people who will never know what it’s like to be financially comfortable. here’s to people that can’t afford a quick trip to the hospital and never will because of no medical insurance.
here’s to mentally disabled people, and physically disabled, and people who are both. here’s to mentally ill people who aren’t getting the help they need because they can’t pay for it or don’t know how to ask for it or are told they’re overreacting.
here’s to everyone who voted for a real change in order to be let down by the stupid and bigoted people in this racist, misogynistic, classist, abilist, anti-Semitic, Islamaphobic, homophobic, transphobic, and every other kind of ugly country. you don’t deserve this, and you never did.
and lastly: “all men are created equal.” here’s to that being the biggest piece of bullshit anyone has ever written.
The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you can’t do.
Screencap redraw (without the background) because I just loved how beautiful my son looked here. Added dimples and blushies. Dimples make everything better.
Anyways yeah, I’ve been seeing JJ getting a lot of hate on tumblr and not nearly enough love, so here are some cute headcanons for the rest of my peeps who love him as much as I do:
JJ is a big believer in “fake it til you make it.” He used to have lots of self-esteem issues when he was younger. But now that he’s so famous, now that he’s a role model to so many young Canadians, he knows he can’t afford not to love himself. He needs to set a good example.
Coming from an extremely lgbt+ supportive family (and country), and being a part of the lgbt+ community himself, he always feels anxious and out-of-place whenever he visits Russia for competitions, so he covers it up by being especially obnoxious and over the top.
Back on his home turf, he’s a lot more relaxed (but still a bit obnoxious) and more like your stereotypical Canadian. He says sorry when he bumps into you, he’ll hold the door for you even if you’re still five feet away, he’ll help little old ladies cross the street, and he’ll drink iced capps no matter how fucking cold it is outside.
He learned to skate almost as soon as he could walk, and he’s always loved it. His parents got him into hockey as a child, and he played on a team for several years. Until one day he discovered figure skating. And he never looked back. He’s still pretty decent at hockey, and he plays with his friends sometimes, but figure skating is where his true passion lies.
He hates being outside of Canada in February and will try to avoid it at all costs. If he absolutely has to, he will fly back on the weekends or whenever he has a chance, just so that he can take part in Roll up the Rim.
He probably has his family/friends send him Tims instant coffee or hot chocolate mix and will binge on timbits and nutella-filled shortbread cookies as soon as he touches down on home soil.
He loves wearing big, comfy, knit sweaters that hang past his thighs because it makes him feel smol and cute.
He has three big doggos: a husky, a german shepherd, and an afghan hound. They attack him with kisses and snuggles as soon as he walks in the door, especially when he’s been away for more than a few days. They follow him everywhere and fall asleep on him, and whenever he tries to leave the house to run errands or something, they whine so pitifully at him that he ends up taking them with him.
He still lives at home, and isn’t planning on moving out any time soon because he’s completely crazy about his parents and he adores his younger siblings with all his heart and he loves coming home to a warm, cozy house full of laughter and the people he loves most in the world.
