so, unlike every single other cardinal, when Vincent arrives, he’s dressed simply. He’s not wearing those freaky church garments, just jeans and a shirt and jacket. Right from the get go, his costume is telling us what he will say later ‘the church is not tradition, the church is what we do next.’ Vincent only cares about whether he can help people through his faith, and is uninterested in all the other parts of being a cardinal. Right before his announcement as pope, we see him dressed simply again- even after gaining the highest post possible in the Roman Catholic Church, Vincent’s priorities haven’t changed. They never will.

But he’s not the ONLY cardinal we see wearing normal clothing…because we also see Lawrence wearing normal clothes. In his case tho, it’s in private, and it only happens once. It’s also shown during a scene where Lawrence is frustrated with the curio and with his managerial duties. Lawrence is also, in some ways, only concerned with his moral duty- but unlike Vincent, for Lawrence his moral compulsions also include maintaining the cardinals and the sanctity of the church. And when he’s frustrated and disillusioned with this work…we see him outside his cardinal garments.

Either way. The only cardinals we ever see outside that robe and cross- are the only ones in that council with integrity and a drive to do what’s right before doing what’s right for the church. Ain’t that something.

I will have you know that I am rotating your conclave fic in my mind 24/7 and i'm obsessed with the way you write characters and use symbolism. it's all very tasty and hurts extremely nicely. vincent is a delight and i want to give him a good nap and a nice meal and a kiss from his crush that doesn't occur in an active trauma dream.

i am also here to do my sacred duty and let you know that if you want another piece of media with heavily autism-coded characters who are unreliable narrators and fantastic people with immense trauma and unhinged types of fealty, i highly recommend The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard.

Ooooh my god I cannot even explain how this makes me feel,, I’m genuinely so thankful that people are enjoying my work! I screenshot every comment I get and send some to my friends wondering how it’s possible that people are So kind!

I definitely plan to let Vincent have a nice nap and a warm meal at some point, God knows he needs it (and God does in fact KEEP TELLING HIM that)!

Every conclave fic I read that has the Aldo and Vincent conversation where Aldo still isnt sure about the new pope/his role in the Curia after the late pope’s death and he says something like “I never voted for you, you know, I voted for Thomas til the very end” only for Vincent to reply “Oh Aldo, I know, and so did I.”

And they finally connect because if they have nothing else in common at least they both love Thomas with their whole hearts …

I like to think that every new member of the enterprise developes a crush on Spock. Like to the point where it's considered a phase of adjusting to life on the enterprise. The newest crewman comes into the rec room like "Guys! How awesome is our Science Officer? He's so smart and mysterious! His ears are so cool!" And everyone else just laughs and is all "Welcome to the Enterprise newbie!"
