At a certain point, ppl really have to understand that you can't really judge anything normally in ML bc the writing is just that bad. It reminds me of the discourse over Marinette killing the sentis Gabriel sent after them. Stop looking at it as "Marinette is a murderer for killing sentis" and look it as "the writing is so inconsistent that they can't decide which sentis count as real people", and it's the same for this bc the senti logic is one of the worst parts of the lore. These characters are not real and do not operate on any internal logic bc there is none. That should be what the focus is. You're not gonna find any real answers looking at things from a Watsonian perspective anymore unless you're doing it as a fun thought experiment and absolutely nothing else
Precisely
You can’t follow the show’s logic and arrive to a conclusion that hasn’t already contradicted itself
That’s why I (and so many others) choose to focus on on critiquing the meta aspects instead of wasting time on a fool’s errand
I don’t get why it’s so difficult for some people to understand that
like there's just so much going on in miraculous ladybug like it's a baby kids show that has akumas every week and is funny and has cute romance which is what i expected and i assume most people wanted. and then it also has insane themes from things such as having a miraculous that has a power of creating designer babies forced to do whatever you want; which is not inherently bad i actually think it's a fascinating topic to explore but maybe in a horror movie. not the baby kids show that is mainly a feel good romance? i suppose the idea is to make it more similar to avatar and other family focused shows where it is both fun but has adult themes that cater to parents watching, but in this case they could handle their more adult themes with like a smidgen more care than they do. instead they introduce shit like sentimonsters and waffle on the morality of doing stuff like: killing them. GIRL‼️ this is a baby kids show we're teaching children MORALS‼️ murder is bad guys. unless the heroes do it 💖
im still thinking about the miraculous finale. i understand marinette not wanting to tell adrien his father was a terrorist because the mans dead, and honestly who wants to open all that baggage when you cant even confront the guy... yikes! like i promote honesty but i understand the perspective here. but someone has got to tell adrien hes a senti. it feels like keeping adriens medical history a secret. between marinette, felix, and kagami, someones got to break it to him. i know its a kids show and im overthinking this too hard, and also ive heard it said that sentis are actually just the same as humans, but that makes no sense to me... hes made of magic. like hes a little boy made of emotions and a dream. what if something comes up. what if adrien needs to know hes a senti because when he goes to the doctor, and he has some senti symptom going on like not having to blink or breathe or some other weird shit , the doc is like "sir you are the most abnormal human alive can we put you in a medical journal? can we study you?" what if adrien went in for surgery and he just had no organs or something i dont know... i just think he needs to know to be able to make informed decisions about this. also so he knows not to flush the rings that grant him free will and autonomy down the toilet but i mean thats secondary to me compared to the medical history stuff obviously.
s5+ adrien agreste is like. what if the fridged wife was actually a zany teenage boy who we held at gunpoint until he forfeited all agency and plot relevance. but he stayed silly.
someone's had to write a fic where adrien is told to wear his dead parents wedding rings and no one tells him of their importance so in an act of grief he does something like punch a mirror or flush them down the toilet and everyone has to deal with the fact that not informing adrien of his remote control autonomy has resulted in disastrous consequences right
miraculous ladybug is a soap opera
this blog is both me complaining and me talking about the 500 concepts miraculous ladybug proposes that makes me go insane and think about even though i think they were mistakes to include in a kids show. like there's two different shows in my head - miraculous ladybug a fun kids romp that teaches children morals, and there's a miraculous ladybug that is actually aimed towards an older (teenage) audience that is more serialized with more serious topics. right now ml is trying to do both and they suck dogshit at it.
the thing is that i actually love moral grayness. and i actually don't personally believe lying is always wrong. sometimes lying is necessary in the society we live in. sometimes people that want to hurt us want to use information we have against us, and there's no reason to tell the truth to those people. it's just self defense. so mls secret identity rules have never been a problem to me ever. in fact i think the superhero genre is a perfect avenue for exploring the topic of what is and isn't okay to lie about. but there are some things that are just so fucking crazy to me to keep secret and ml has reached the point where it's like Jesus fucking Christ.
miraculous ladybug sucks but the one thing that was fun was that marinette has two love interests that play the femme fatale (chat noir: fun but dangerous, flirty, oh no he's trying to tempt me into giving away my identity, literally based on black cat) and the ingenue (adrien: innocent and naive, passive role, oh no they know nothing of the world so i must protect them, etc.) which are typically foils. but it turns out these two love interests that she must choose between - are the same person. instead of two stock tropes that she must choose between (the innocence and safety of her civilian life versus the dangerous adventure of superhero life) she must reconcile and choose both. and then they added luka because they were bored.
okay not to say any of these aren't valid takes people can like what they like and make what they want it's just crazy to me this is what people focus on when they're writing reviews of miraculous ladybug. or they get mad because it's a baby kids show for babies which like okay get real. in my opinion the worst thing about miraculous ladybug is simply that its narrative is completely incoherent. it can't hold a theme to save its life so it picks 5000 and puts it in a blender. it's a baby kids show and gabriel vomits ash in the finale from internal-cataclysming but they can't handle adrien finding out his dad is like. bad. and child abuse is like. wrong. if you can't handle child abuse as a theme then do not make hawk gabriel agreste moth a FATHER!!! crazy work.
i hate miraculous ladybug but i disagree with everyone else who hates miraculous ladybug and that's my true real problem. no video essay does it for me because they're literally wrong (because my opinion is always right btw) and every salt blog is wrong. "adrien should be the main protagonist" wrong. "the biggest problem is marinette being a stalker" wrong bad faith argument not understanding the genre (though it is a valid criticism to be uncomfortable with it personally) "marinette is a mary sue" literally wrong. "adrien is a gary stu" wrong. "adrien sucks and this is why marinette should get with some random guy named robin." what the fuck are you talking about.
sorry to everyone following me im not done. so like okay i haven't kept up with season 6 much. does Marinette still not tell Adrien anything. like they're in a relationship but Adrien doesn't know anything about his dad or the sentimonster thing?? like the amoks? because I just want to say if no one has written 20 years in the future divorce fic.......... the custody battle would be crazy. can you imagine. "she knew there were rings that could remote control me and did not inform me of the fact." "you've been wearing them the whole time i didn't remote control you!" "okay but when we held hands when we said our vows?" "IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT" "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU DIDNT TELL ME ANYTHING." i simply think it'd be the best psychological horror and also a comedy of all time.
