Masquerade Massacre / Dance With Death

king!yandere x fem reader / Y/N

Summary: the king spotted you last year, and now, during his masquerade, he'll make sure you'll be his for eternity ... and he has a (bloody) surprise for you.

Warnings: massacre, yandere themes, obsession, embarrassment, jealousy, guns, forced marriage, manipulation (?), possessiveness

Word count: 1.7k

He knows you’re here somewhere. You can’t hide from him forever. You’re somewhere among the hundreds of fancy guests covering themselves with jewels and masks, hiding their rotten personalities. You’re not like them, he knows that. He can’t wait until he finds you and can swoop you into his secure arms, hold you close to him and kiss your pretty lips. His eyes wander under the jeweled mask like a hawk, searching for you.

The second he’ll find you, he’ll never let you go again. He’s been planning this moment ever since he first saw you on that ball a year ago. You were dancing with his cousin. This time, however, you’ll dance with him and him only. He has a plan for you for the end of the night, but for that to happen, he needs to know which one of these women you are. He can’t make a mistake.

You, however, haven’t noticed the king’s predatory gaze as you make your way throughout the thick crowd of people. You’re wearing a blue dress with a white and blue mask with your hair swaying over your shoulders, not standing out among the well dressed women. Everyone’s trying to impress the royal highness. Even you — or that’s at least what you think. Everyone around you has been drooling over the young king and you have done what was needed to fit in. You can’t deny that your heart lies with the man you danced with at the ball last summer, the handsome, royal cousin. He’s the man you’ve actually dolled up for and is looking for.

You sigh. How are you ever going to find him among all these people? It’s near impossible. You stand on your tippy toes to look over the sea of people. You see a black haired man and in hope of finding the right one, you start to gently push through the sea of socializing people.

You pass the throne on your way. The king follows you with his eyes. A small, wicked smile spreads across his face. Got you.

You reach the man you believe to be the right one.

“Good evening, my lord”, you say. “I hope you remember me. I really enjoyed our dance last summer. I was hoping to dance with you tonight as well.”

The man turns to you and you can already tell on his green eyes that he’s not the man you threw yourself over last year. Worse, he’s wearing a wedding ring on his finger and a woman on his arm. Mortified, you place your hand over your mouth and make a run for it before he can open his mouth. You have to get out of here before he can get to know who you are. You push through people, no longer caring if they find you rude. You have to get out of here now.

You hurry out to the staircase and take a few breaths for yourself. Your shaking hands hold onto the stone railing as you lean towards one of the pillars. If that man and his wife realizes who you are, everyone in the elite class will talk about how you’re a ‘homewrecker’ and a ‘filthy girl’. A few sobs escape your lips.

“Finally, I found you”, you hear a male voice say behind you. “I’ve been looking for you all night, my lady.”

You gasp and turn around, seeing the king himself walk towards you. Everything about him screams power, self confidence and dominance. Everything a king should have, you think. The king moves over to you and gently removes your mask. His heart skips a beat at the sight he’s met with. Your teary doe eyes, trembling bottom lip and beautiful skin. He wants to keep this for himself. No one else should see you this vulnerable. Gently, he starts wiping your tears with his hand. The cold, gold rings making you shiver.

“Don’t cry, my dear”, the king whispers.

He has you pressed up against the pillar by now. If he moved any closer, he would be touching you.

“I’m embarrassed, your majesty”, you whisper back.

“I know, I saw it all”, the king murmurs and places a strand of your hair behind your ear.

Oh no.

“O-Oh … you did …”, you mumble and look down.

“Yes, I’ve been keeping my eye on you. As I said, I’ve been looking for you all night.” He puts his hands on your waist. “And now that I've found you, I won’t let you get out of my sight again.”

You freeze and give him a wide eyed look. What is he talking about? He chuckles and places your mask back on your face with the same grace he just used.

“Will you come back with me to the masquerade?” he asks and holds out his hand.

If you take his hand now, you’ll give yourself to him. If you take his hand now, he’ll never let you go. But you don’t know that. Yet.

“You won’t meet that man again”, the king promises. “You will stay by my side all evening, I promise. I even have a surprise for you, my dear. Come on … take my hand.”

You nod carefully and take his hand. He smiles smugly, knowing that you’re now trapped in his twisted little world forever. You’ll be his beautiful little accessory, a wonderful little doll for him to dress and love.

He brings you back into the big hall. Everyone’s eyes turn to you. The king smiles cockily and places his arm around your waist to bring you closer.

“Dance with me”, the king whispers in your ear.

He brings you out on the dance floor and pulls you closer to him. It’s not enough for him. He wants you even closer, wants to be one with you. He wants to feel you from the inside out, wants to get to know every centimeter of you. Your scent is like a drug to him and your voice lulls him in. He brings you along with him on the dance floor in his rhythm, giving you a taste of how your life will be from now on. Everything from now on will be in his rhythm and you should only lean on him.

“You’re so beautiful tonight”, the king tells you.

“Thank you, your majesty”, you say shyly.

He bends down to your ear.

“Lean on my chest”, he whispers. “Show everyone that you belong to me now.”

You swallow and hesitate. You don’t really love the king, you like his cousin. But after tonight, he’s the last person you want to think off. You’ll never be able to look him in the eyes and not think of the humiliation you felt tonight. You close your eyes and lean your head on his chest. The king sends the crowd cocky gazes. Look what’s his. Look what they’ll never ever have.

After an hour of non-stop swaying around on the dance floor, you tell him that you’re starting to get tired and should retreat to bed. He grabs your hand, stopping you.

“Don’t leave yet”, he begs you. “I have a surprise for you, remember?”

“Your majesty, I’m really tired-”, you start.

“I can give you the surprise now.” He pulls you with him. “Come.”

He takes you to the throne and sits you down. You shake your head quickly. You can’t sit on the throne! He insists on you taking your rightful seat before standing beside it and gestures with his hand to the guards around the hall. How come you didn’t notice them before?

To your utter horror, they pick up rifles and start to shoot recklessly, not caring who they hit. You scream and stand up, but the king presses you down again.

“Don’t leave yet”, he smiles, his calm voice somehow being able to be heard over the horrified screaming. “The show’s not over.”

You stare up at him. Something’s changed in his demeanor. A wicked, almost manic, smile has spread across his face and a psychopath hint in his eyes. You start to cry as you’re forced to watch the massacre in front of you. Body after body falls to the floor in pools of blood. You press yourself closer to the throne’s backrest, body shaking worse than ever. To your side, you notice how the king walks in front of you and sinks down on one knee. He picks off one of the golden rings off his fingers.

“Marry me, my lady”, he says. “I don’t want to live another day without you. Be mine. Please. I’ve gotten rid of all the competition. I will never look at anyone else besides you. I got rid of them all.”

You can’t find any words. Your brain has stopped working completely. Not a single sound leaves your mouth when you open it.

“If you don’t say ‘I do’, you will be shot”, the king says warningly, dark eyes looking directly at hers. “If I can’t have you, no one can. It’s you and I or no one.”

“Y-Your majesty”, you sob. “Please … please don’t …”

“Say it.”

“I-I … I can’t …”

“Y/N, tell me you’ll be my queen, tell me that you’ll stay with me forever … or end up like all the others.” He caresses your wet cheek and you flinch away from his hands. They may not have physical blood on them, but you know that they’re covered. “Don’t be a stupid girl now, darling. You know you don’t want to die. Accept the ring. Accept my love.”

You give the pile of bodies a gaze. That is not how you want to end up. But the king has gone insane … you can’t accept that either.

“Y/N …”, the king says. “I’m losing patience.”

“O-Okay … okay, I’ll do it!” you sob. “Please don’t hurt me!”

He breaks out in a relieved smile, places the golden ring on your finger and hugs you tightly against his chest.

“I won’t hurt you”, he promises. “I’ll protect you with my entire being.”

He kisses your forehead harshly. You sniffle and glance down at the ring on your finger. It’s a lock that goes straight to your heart.

“My beautiful queen”, he smiles. “Now you’re mine for eternity. I’m so, so happy.”

You doubt you will ever be able to say the same.

About A Week Ago I Posted This.

About a week ago I posted this.

I’ve been getting horrible messages like this in my ask for months, including:

About A Week Ago I Posted This.

and my personal favorite

About A Week Ago I Posted This.

After getting the message saying “Just go kill yourself” I was completely done dealing with this person’s horrible messages and replied with just an “Okay.” and logged off tumblr.

About a week later I logged back on with 17 messages in my ask, most of them from the anon. I scrolled down and at first when I logged off, the anon messaged me things like

About A Week Ago I Posted This.

I scrolled up more and all of a sudden they started sending me more and more messages like

About A Week Ago I Posted This.

This was extremely surprising to me. I thought “After all those horrible messages you sent to me for MONTHS about hating me and wanting me dead, you say ‘sorry’ and that you ‘cant be responsible for someone’s suicide’?”

But I guess the lesson goes like this:

DONT TELL ANYONE TO KILL THEMSELVES UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR WHAT MIGHT ACTUALLY HAPPEN

How do I get tumblr bells :(

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched the Sun!

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

For the first time in history, a spacecraft has touched the Sun. Our Parker Solar Probe flew right through the Sun’s atmosphere, the corona. (That’s the part of the Sun that we can see during a total solar eclipse.)

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

This marks one great step for Parker Solar Probe and one giant leap for solar science! Landing on the Moon helped scientists better understand how it was formed. Now, touching the Sun will help scientists understand our star and how it influences worlds across the solar system.

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

Unlike Earth, the Sun doesn’t have a solid surface (it’s a giant ball of seething, boiling gases). But the Sun does have a superheated atmosphere. Heat and pressure push solar material away from the Sun. Eventually, some of that material escapes the pull of the Sun’s gravity and magnetism and becomes the solar wind, which gusts through the entire solar system.

But where exactly does the Sun’s atmosphere end and the solar wind begin? We’ve never known for sure. Until now!

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

In April 2021, Parker Solar Probe swooped near the Sun. It passed through a massive plume of solar material in the corona. This was like flying into the eye of a hurricane. That flow of solar stuff — usually a powerful stream of particles — hit the brakes and went into slow-motion.

For the first time, Parker Solar Probe found itself in a place where the Sun’s magnetism and gravity were strong enough to stop solar material from escaping. That told scientists Parker Solar Probe had passed the boundary: On one side, space filled with solar wind, on the other, the Sun’s atmosphere.

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

Parker Solar Probe’s proximity to the Sun has led to another big discovery: the origin of switchbacks, zig-zag-shaped magnetic kinks in the solar wind.

These bizarre shapes were first observed in the 1990s. Then, in 2019, Parker Solar Probe revealed they were much more common than scientists first realized. But they still had questions, like where the switchbacks come from and how the Sun makes them.

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

Recently, Parker Solar Probe dug up two important clues. First, switchbacks tend to have lots of helium, which scientists know comes from the solar surface. And they come in patches.

Those patches lined up just right with magnetic funnels that appear on the Sun’s surface. Matching these clues up like puzzle pieces, scientists realized switchbacks must come from near the surface of the Sun.

Figuring out where switchbacks come from and how they form will help scientists understand how the Sun produces the solar wind. And that could clue us into one of the Sun’s biggest mysteries: why the Sun’s atmosphere is much, much hotter than the surface below.

Our Parker Solar Probe Just Touched The Sun!

Parker Solar Probe will fly closer and closer to the Sun. Who knows what else we’ll discover?

How Climate Change Showed Up in 2021

2021 was tied for the sixth-hottest year since modern record keeping began. We work together with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to track temperatures around the world and study how they change from year to year.

How Climate Change Showed Up In 2021

For decades, the overall global temperature has been increasing because of human activities. The last decade has been the warmest on record. Each individual year’s average temperature, however, can be affected by things like ocean circulation, volcanic eruptions, and specific weather events.

For instance, last year we saw the beginning of La Niña – a pattern of cooler waters in the Pacific – that was responsible for slightly cooling 2021’s average temperature. Still, last year continued a long-term trend of global warming.

Globally, Earth’s temperature in 2021 was nearly 2°F warmer than the late 19th Century, for the seventh year in a row.

The Record

Studying 142 Years

Since 1880, we can put together a consistent record of temperatures around the planet and see that it was much colder in the late-19th century. Before 1880, uncertainties in tracking global temperatures are larger. Temperatures have increased even faster since the 1970s, the result of increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Tracking Millions of Individual Observations

Our scientists use millions of individual observations of data from more than 20,000 weather stations and Antarctic research stations, together with ship- and buoy-based observations of sea surface temperatures, to track global temperatures.

Reviewing Multiple Independent Records

Our global temperature record – GISTEMP – is one of a number of independent global temperature records, all of which show the same pattern of warming.

How Climate Change Showed Up In 2021

The Consequences

Everywhere Experiences Climate Change Differently

As Earth warms, temperature changes occur unevenly around the globe. The Arctic is currently warming about four times faster than the rest of the planet – a process called Arctic amplification. Similarly, urban areas tend to warm faster than rural areas, partly because building materials like asphalt, steel and concrete retain heat.

Droughts and Floods in Warmer Weather

More than 88% of the Western US experienced drought conditions in 2021. At the same time, communities in Western Europe saw two months’ worth of rain in 24 hours, breaking records and triggering flash floods. Because a hotter climate means more water can be carried in the atmosphere, areas like the Western US suffer drought from the increased 'thirstiness' of the atmosphere, while precipitation events can become more extreme as the amount of moisture in the atmosphere rises.

Sea Levels Continue to Rise

Melting ice raises sea levels around the world, as meltwater drains into the ocean. In addition, heat causes the ocean water to expand. From 1993 to today, global mean sea level has been rising around 3.4 millimeters per year. In 2021, sea level data from the recently launched NASA/ESA Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich mission became available to the public.

There is Hope

“This is not good news, but the fact that we are able to track this in real time and understand why it’s changing, and get people to notice why it’s changing and how we can change things to change the next trajectory, that gives me hope. Because we’re not in the dark here. We’re not the dinosaurs who are unaware the comet is coming. We can see the comet coming, and we can act.” – Dr. Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA GISS, where the global temperature record is calculated

Kill the lights – We’re Simulating a Moonwalk!

At the bottom of a very dark swimming pool, divers are getting ready for missions to the Moon. Take a look at this a recent test in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. NASA astronauts are no strangers to extreme environments. We best prepare our astronauts by exposing them to training environments here on Earth that simulate the 1/6th gravity, suit mobility, lighting and lunar terrain they'll expect to see on a mission to the Moon. Practice makes perfect.

Kill The Lights – We’re Simulating A Moonwalk!

The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at NASA's Johnson Space Center is where astronauts train for spacewalks, and soon, moonwalks.

When astronauts go to the Moon’s South Pole through NASA’s Artemis program, the Sun will only be a few degrees over the horizon, creating long, dark shadows. To recreate this environment, divers at the lab turned off the lights, put up black curtains on the pool walls to minimize reflection, and used powerful underwater lamps to simulate the environment astronauts might experience on lunar missions.

Kill The Lights – We’re Simulating A Moonwalk!

These conditions replicate the dark, long shadows astronauts could see and lets them evaluate the different lighting configurations. The sand at the bottom is common pool filter sand with some other specialized combinations in the mix.

Kill The Lights – We’re Simulating A Moonwalk!

This was a test with divers in SCUBA gear to get the lighting conditions right, but soon, NASA plans to conduct tests in this low-light environment using spacesuits.

Kill The Lights – We’re Simulating A Moonwalk!

Neutral buoyancy is the equal tendency of an object to sink or float. Through a combination of weights and flotation devices, an item is made to be neutrally buoyant and it will seem to "hover" under water. In such a state, even a heavy object can be easily manipulated, much as it is in the zero gravity of space, but will still be affected by factors such as water drag.

The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory is 202 ft in length, 102 ft in width and 40 ft in depth (20 ft above ground level and 20 ft below) and holds 6.2 million gallons of water.

Next Gen @ NASA: Celebrating National Intern Day

To celebrate National Intern Day, we asked interns to share how they got their internship and their perspective and advice to the next generation of prospective NASA interns.

Meet our interns and check out their suggestions for the next generation.

Sarah Kilpatrick, STDCE-2 Data Intern

Sarah is a summer Surface Tension Driven Convection Experiment Data Intern at NASA. Her inspiration for applying for an internship came from a passion for science from an early age. “I grew up in a family that liked, enjoyed and appreciated science and the fun of it all,” she recalls. “I grew up watching PBS, NOVA, and other science shows, so when I saw NASA had opportunities for students like me, I was very interested.”

Sarah’s advice to the next generation of NASA interns is one of perseverance and resilience.

Nicholas Natsoulas, Attitude Control Engineering Intern

Nicholas is a summer Attitude Control Engineering Intern at NASA. He wants to contribute to scientific innovation and discovery. “Overall, what inspired me to apply and come to work here was to contribute to the scientific exploration of space while learning about unique perspectives and innovative space discoveries.”

Nicholas’s advice for prospective NASA interns is to make the most out of your time here and to be a curious and eager learner.

“Use all the resources that are at your center and ask questions about projects you are working on. Don’t be afraid to talk to your mentor about your plans for the future and ask for any advice you may need, as they are more than willing to help you during your time here,” says Nicholas.

One man standing at an office desk pointing at laptop screen and one man sitting on chair working from laptop.

Nicholas and his mentor, Brent Faller, are using software to inform design decisions on a variety of spacecraft.

Nylana Murphy, former Additive Manufacturing Engineering Intern

As an American Indian College Fund ambassador and a Navajo engineer, Nylana Murphy hopes her internship story will inspire others to pursue a career in aerospace.

After attending the American Indian Science Engineering Society Conference, Nylana secured an internship in the additive manufacturing research laboratory at NASA Marshall.

“My internships have helped me get to where I am,” she says, “There is a career for everyone, where their dreams can become reality. Those dreams WILL become a reality.”

A Navajo woman sits with her hands clasped on her lap. She is wearing a black t-shirt with a NASA logo and a turquoise ring and bracelet.

You might be wondering: what happens after a NASA internship Here’s what two of our former interns did.

Loral O’Hara, Astronaut, former intern

Lorel interned at NASA JPL in 2003, and at NASA Goddard in 2004. She earned science degrees from both the University of Kansas and Purdue University.

As a research and project engineer, O’Hara reported for duty in August 2017 and completed two years of training as an Astronaut Candidate. She is projected to fly in Soyuz missions as a NASA astronaut soon.

If she could go back in time, Loral says she would tell her younger self to enjoy the opportunities that come her way—and never stop looking for new ones. “Enjoy the whole journey of…figuring out what it is that you like to do and exploring all different kinds of things.”

A woman is in a pool with a helmet and other protective gear on.

Jeff Carlson, Assembly, Test, Launch Operations Engineer

The “7 Minutes of Terror” video piqued Jeff Carlson’s interest in working at JPL. He thought, "That's the coolest thing I've ever heard of. I've got to go be a part of that in some way." While interning at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he worked on Starshade, a sunflower-shaped device used to block starlight in order to reveal planets orbiting a star. Later, he went on to work on the team tasked with assembling and testing the “head” and “neck” (officially called the Remote Sensing Mast) for the Mars 2020 rover.

A man stands next to a testbed version of the Mars 2020 rover. His hair is pulled back in a ponytail and he is wearing a white lab coat and gloves.

I Said What I Said

i said what i said

now that everyone from twitter has joined tumblr overnight, it's time to lay a couple ground rules:

1. it's not called a "retweet", it's called a "reblog", but if you're REALLY cool, you refer to it as a "rebagel"

2. if someone has fewer followers than you, it is totally fair to call them "irrelevant", but it is actually more stinging to call them "irrelephant"

3. if you see someone irl that you think might have a tumblr, you're supposed to say "i like your shoe laces". the correct response, which any true tumblrite would know by heart, is "thanks, i stole them from the president"

4. there is a particular phenomenon that happens after 12am EST called "nightblogging", and everything after this point is the fault of the australians

5. tumbeasts
