We’re only finding out recently that a lot of animals have colors and patterns that we cannot see because they’re outside of our visual range. It calls to attention how much of the world we can’t experience because our senses are limited. When we shine UV lights on them, they glow pink or blue, but these are the colors that we CAN see…. they could be a bunch of different colors, which we SEE as all pink. It’s also interesting to consider that most of these animals are not aware of having glowing patches on their bodies…. isn’t it also possible that we have skin or hair patterns that were not aware of? . . (There is actually some research out there to support the idea that our own skin fluoresces as well and that there are gender differences in the pattern and glow.) “Like,” she said, a hint of desperation slipping into her voice, “I can, like, blow up the moon.”

He just looked at her, blankly confused. “… wait, would that help?”

“I don’t know,” she said, suddenly a little confused too. “I mean, it’s the moon.”

“If blowing up the moon is what you have to do to maintain a healthy sleep schedule, then you should blow up the moon. I guess. I don’t know. There’s tide stuff. Would there be, like, tsunamis?”

“The point,” she said, “is that you don’t need to worry about me. Not like this. I mean: I am an incarnate breath of the void.”

Excerpted from Glitch, a forthcoming tabletop RPG about living with chronic illness, depression and identity issues in which the player characters just happen to be retired world-killing void gods. theres a hole in the wall in my brothers’ room because they were fighting (for fun not anger) in there once and one of them knocked the other into the wall so hard his head made that hole, so they put two small skeletons in there for decoration
