i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

What if I taught myself to tablet weave? I've never woven before but I bet I could just... Do it. Will report back.

The documents contain sensitive themes and topics (e.g., related to death).
Some notes are from my old files, which may include outdated information. Others were made in response to a request. I also included a few references that are still in my queue & drafts.
Choose which tips & notes are most appropriate for your own writing. Some are just quick references. Thus, more research may be needed for your written work.
Updates may be made in irregular intervals for added material and/or corrections.
All PDFs are free. You can pay what you want/can here. There's a very small fee to keep the site up. But please don't feel obligated to, especially if you're in a rough patch at the moment—been there (+ it is the holiday season after all, which I know can be a tough time). Writing has always been a safe space for me, so if these references help you as well, that would be more than enough for me.
Thank you to everyone who had been so encouraging about this little project.
And thank you especially to @beforeyearning for creating the site ily (please follow his blog, he's a very talented writer).
Ok I'm not going to reply to the post directly but smoking weed on the beach is absolutely different from getting drunk on the beach because:
A) people drinking booze doesn't make the entire beach stink like the ass of a dead skunk. You do not get to nickname something SKUNK and then be shocked when people hate when you smoke it in public. It smells bad, and I can assure you I don't go to the beach to smell your shit stink
B) as an asthmatic, people drinking on the beach does not pose a health risk to me
C) I cannot get second hand drunk from people drinking on the beach
I am a person who prefers getting high to getting drunk (gummies, I am asthmatic) but you can't pretend that smoking weed in public isn't straight up obnoxious, lol
also while im taking potshots at the US. football is a bloodsport and the only reason it's not acknowledged as one is because the football industry does medical theatre to appease the sensibilities of football fans who do not want to acknowledge that american football is a bloodsport where football players lives are proffered up for their entertainment. do you know how many american football players who have suffered life-destroying TBIs kill themselves by specifically shooting themselves in the heart so that their brains can be preserved and studied, to hopefully end the bloodsport of american football? anyways. "go birds" meme but like genuinely american football is a bloodsport and should be dismantled as a cultural institution. something something the profoundly american impulse to watch people die for their entertainment while refusing to acknowledge that they are responsible for this blood etc.
