I hate how much traditionally feminine skills are demonized.
For example, the other day I saw an article about a father who changed the art in books about Disney princesses so they weren’t “sexist”. One of the images was of Ariel decorating a cake which he changed to her eating a slice of pizza. Because I guess eating pizza is a more impressive than a skill that takes people years and years to master.
The only reason you would view a woman decorating a cake as demeaning is because you view feminine skills as lesser than.
Thinking about when I was younger, in a lot of the tween to teen movies I watched: usually the cool girl is the tomboy, and the feminine girl is portrayed as prissy and bratty. And don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a girl being a tomboy. I just don’t think young girls really get a good media role model of strong femininity.
Based off my observations, if a girl wants to be respected she can’t just enjoy being a woman and doing feminine things, she has to be a “badass” as well. I don’t want to be a badass, I don’t want to be CEO of a company: I want to bake cookies and raise babies and garden and raise animals and look pretty for my husband.
All those things take skills and effort and some take a lifetime of mastery so why can’t they be respected as such?
