Not everything has to be fight scenes
—Losing something of emotional value and remembering its history and why it’s important to the character
—Reliving a traumatic event
—Running into an old friend who’s either completely changed since they’ve last seen each other or far too similar, leaving the character to wonder about how they’ve matured and grown compared to this other person
—Internally deciding if they should voice a fear or concern to the group, even if they might look silly or ridiculous doing so
—Friends vs family in terms of choosing who to follow and listen too
—Feeling unqualified to work on a project or be apart of the adventure
—Romantic feelings for someone they shouldn’t and dealing with how they should proceed internally. (THIS MEANS RIVALS OR FORBIDDEN ROMANCE. NOT ANYTHING ILLEGAL!!!)
—Thinking about mortality and death after being reminded of an late friend/family passing
—Being less talented at something years later when they used to be the best in that field
—Finding an old photo that carries much more emotional significance now than it did X years ago.
"We call it vff," said the alien. "It's - it's hard to describe to a species without vffsense. Imagine trying to describe light to a species that never evolved eyes. But there are forms of life that are only perceptible with vffsense, and they've visited Earth and fed on life as long as it's existed here."
There was a pause.
Then the human said, "That's the worst thing you've ever said."
"Don't worry about it."
"I think I have to, now."
"No, because - well - you have a species of spider which pretends to be an ant, correct? It's not capable of understanding the fact that it's mimicking an ant, but it instinctually mimics an ant in order to deter predators."
"Sure?"
"Humans produce a vff to mimic varths, predators only perceptible through vffsense. The organisms that would like to feed on you are terrified of varths, and so they leave you alone. You aren't aware you do it, you don't have the capacity to understand you're doing it, but you evolved to instinctually do it to deter predators you can't see."
There was a pause.
Then the human said in a very soft and thoughtful voice, "And are there varths on Earth?"
"Yes," said the alien. "Everywhere. But don't worry about it."

How stupid could he be? Why didn’t he go after them? Thoughts, regrets ran through his veins, pumping heated blood across his heavy body. The words exchanged, looking back on it were not needed, but too stubborn to admit that allowed. A heavy sigh, before collapsing his head in his already trembling hands. He couldn’t go after her now, his anger made him stubborn and at this point it was already morning. Peering over at the blinking red numbers of some trashy old clock only seemed to further the anger in his system. Glaring pointless bullets at the machine before he turned away, flinging himself back onto his bed as he thought about it all. About how those soft caring (e/c) eyes held such pain, the way tears rolled down those puffy cheeks. A sting of pain flashed through his chest, turning to his side and curling into himself. He wanted that image out of his head, though no matter the expression they were beautiful, but still those tears were enough to make him cry himself. He groaned, squeezing his eyes closed, trying to think of anything else, but love corrupted the turtle in many ways. They, no matter how hard he tried, consumed his mind. Those sad eyes haunting him till slowly his adrline died down and sleep took over.
He slept off hours, waking up now and again shaken by dreams of them. Finally after the third time waking up in worry the sun was beginning to set on the new york sky. The streets cleared out, somewhat and he could leave. Exiting his room he spoke not a word as he walked by a certain brother. They exchanged a cold glance before the older of them all stepped in to speak. “Raph, Don, pizza,” He bothered not to ask either of them if they were okay, knowing very well the answer he’d likely be given. He shook his head not wanting to waste his time eating when he needed to find them and now. He turned his back heading in the direction of the entrance to the lair ignoring Leo and Mikey's questions of where he was going. Walk soon turned into a full on sprint out of the sewers and into the dark city. Jumping shadow to shadow, roof to roof like his life and world depended on it, cause in his eyes it did. (Y/N) was only ever kind to him, and after the events of yesterday, things needed to be said. Though he doubted they’d like what they heard.
A few more graceful jumps from building in classic ninja style before he finally reached the apartments where they lived. Quietly he maneuvered across the fire escape, past the other countless windows before he reached the window to the living room of her apartment. How he knew besides the countless times he found comfort in being there was the sticker. Mikey gave (Y/N) this giant turtle window sticker when it was still a struggle for the goofball brother to find her apartment, not wanting him to get him or his brothers caught Mikey came up with an idea. Though the brothers saw it pointless, (Y/N)’s kind heart thought it was a genius idea and happily complied with it. That was the first moment when the broad turtle knew something had changed, the beginning of his feelings for (Y/N). He shook his head, removing the pointless, though comforting memories away. Sliding open the window and slipping in he took notice to the still quiet apartment. Lightly treading his way through the small apartment before he came to a sudden halt in the hall between kitchen and living room. Those ninja observation skills never failed him as he noticed a crucial detail. The small table near the door, where they’d exhaustedly thrown their keys down on was not there. His eyes squinted a bit as he slowly began to worry. Were they just out with friends? Or family? However, as he explored the apartment he saw no trace of their clothes from the other day, the scent of them lingered but was faint, compared to if they were here earlier.
Did they not come home yesterday? Worry flooded his body and like a drug sent him into overdrive. He darted out the window as quietly as he could, jumping onto the roof in panic. “No...no...nonononono” He muttered as he just began searching everywhere he could. Work, the few friends he had seen, places they’d visit often, but nothing. At this point he was long past worried, he was hysterical as tears and fear threatened to just erupt from the mutant. He turned to head back to the lair, to get his brothers and start a full on search for (Y/N) but just as he jumped across one building he saw what to him was heaven's light. An apartment about seven miles away he could see (Y/N) in the window with whom he would guess is a friend. He watched a moment as they shared the pint of ice cream before their gaze turned to him. The feeling of being watched is likely tempting (Y/N) to look in the direction. The soft expression became a sad one before they said something to their friend and walked out.
He waited in the shadows a moment in silence, contemplating what exactly he was going to even say. His thoughts running ragged before he heard the door to the roof open, he looked up to see them, blanket over their shoulders, wearing a set of pjs too cute, but obviously not their own. They lacked the soft scent of hers, plus were a few sizes too big. He jumped across, stopping in front of (Y/N), opening his mouth to speak, but fell silent as he took a stepback. There was silence between them a moment before he finally spoke. “You didn’t go home last night?” He asked, looking to the ground, along with them. (Y/N) breathed in through their nose before letting it go in the form of a sigh. “Yeah, I just...couldn’t bring myself to stay there alone,” Their words pained him in a way they didn’t know, but they would in a moment.
Building up confidence he looked at her with a soft expression. “I know this isn’t what ya wanna hear…,” He started looking over at the person who held his heart in their tiny human grip. “I love you. I love you so much, watching you cry and scream it killed me inside.” His words were soft, spoken truly from the heart and he lowered down a bit to (Y/N)’s height, taking their small hands into his own. There was this look of sadness across the features of their face, he knew it turn out like this. They didn’t speak, they tried to but feel silent only a second later. This was next level betrayal on his part, he realized as he let go of the pair of hands that he thought fit so nicely in his own. He grumbled a small sorry ready to leave it as it was but was stopped. “Is that why you came and not him, Raph?” (Y/N) asked the turtle in red.
