The most important thing to remember when adopting a domestic dragon is to get one that fits your personality and lifestyle, since hoarding is only a common practice in some species. If your Cerulean Light-Wing Wyvern begins hoarding bottle caps, it is because your house doesn’t have enough room for it to fly around and comfortably spread out over a number of roosts. It is however, perfectly normal for the Ivory Guard Drake to keep a pile of bones and trinkets that the people it chases off drop near its primary resting spot.

If you have a hoarding dragon, you first need to stop thinking of their gathering as dealing with a problem, and see it as another need that your companion has to be met.

There are a few ways that people will recommend “dealing with” a dragon’s hoarding instincts, the first of which being to ignore it and hope they satisfy themselves, which NEVER WORKS. When young dragons find something that they like, their mind will tell them to claim it as theirs, which can be extremely dangerous if they get things that aren’t designed to be gnawed on like knives or batteries.

The second way is borderline animal abuse, but is the most common method that I’ve heard people trying. Asserting dominance and forcefully dispersing your dragon’s hoard is only going to distress them, especially if you shout or make big, erratic movements as you do so. This will make your companion fearful of you, and more snappy with strangers that come into your home, especially if they are forced to share couch space or stand back while things they want to be theirs are touched and potentially taken by the stranger. This should go without saying, but never get physical with a dragon when you are upset with it. They are faster, sharper, and more specially aware than you are, and even then, they have feelings and do not deserve to be a punching bag for any reason.

The third method, and the best one by far, is to calmly redirect your dragons hoarding to an unobtrusive location in your apartment, house, or property. Most common pet breeds are perfectly happy to pile their selected items in a little closet, especially if you give them a cozy dog bed. This method can take a minute to get through to a dragon, but once they understand that you aren’t stopping their hoarding, they’ll be much calmer about the situation. If you use this method and your dragon takes something dangerous or that you need back, just talk to them. Dragons are intelligent creatures, and if you talk them through why they shouldn’t eat your balls of yarn, they’ll likely understand.

Of course, every dragon is different in their personality and what they even want to hoard, so this whole deal is extremely flexible. If your dragon likes shiny things, trade coins and fun rocks for your TV Remote. If your dragon collects bones from squirrels that get a little too cozy in your backyard, then take the bones and clean them when your dragon is taking a nap. If your dragon doesn’t show any interest in hoarding, then don’t try and get them into the habit for likes on your videos of your “sweet baby pet” trying to claim a statue that’s three times its weight and nearly killing itself by dropping the statue off of a table.

Domestic bowuigi thoughts, whenever Luigi either visits or in an essence 'comes home' to Bowsers Castle he naturally takes his shoes off at the door not wanting to traipse mud into his husbands house happy to trade them for the personal slippers waiting at the door for him (first time they were there for him probably nearly cried like personal slippers?? For me?? "yea of course my love you're part of the family? Are you okay?" ;~; yea just gonna cry)

However whenever he's leant over undoing his shoe laces to slip off his boots he absolutely has to contend with whichever Koopaling has heard him return running up and proceeding to smoosh and rub their face against his cap his cheek his mustache ect. They're so happy to see him they absolutely gotta smoosh their face into him! So he's there like yes yes hello I love you too I'm home as he does his boots, he's probably also started to playfully smoosh his face back against theirs. And bowser absolutely scoops him up to smoosh against him too cause gotta scent mark the hubby make him smell like home.

Basically the Koopa family are cats and this is very much based off my cat who when I'm leant over undoing my boots proceeds to rub his face against mine probably scent marking but happy to see me.

He poorly makes chicken noodle soup for his partner before cuddling around them to try and help break any fever that may arise.

Being a furry monster that runs hot anyways, he’s at little to no risk of getting sick, thusly he takes extra care to be clingy and protective.

He also regularly brings in flowers from his garden that he knows you like the smell of to test if your nose is less stuffy.

Head scratches with the Shishigumi?

The power I could wield if lions could purr ( older lions will let out a low moan or groan while bonding)

Ibuki

Unlike others in the shishigumi, he does not have a very special mane regime.

His mane has a natural soft curl and while it’s not the softest, it’s not horribly rough.

It's super nice to run your fingers through, and luckily, Ibuki loves it when you touch and brush his mane

If he’s feeling super needy, he’ll grab your hand and put it on his head. Do not think about removing it either.

He gives the cutest look to you; he has a small pout, eyes meeting yours almost begging you to not stop, and his head tilts and follows your hand.

Also loves chin scratches, he leans into your hand naturally when you do.

Free

While he does like head/mane scratches, he puts a lot of effort into his hair every morning so he’d appreciate it if you save it until the both of you are in bed ready to sleep.

No matter what you’re doing, if you are laying in bed and his hair is down for the day, I can guarantee you he’s gonna force you to scratch his hair.

He likes to lay his head on your lap and let you pet him

He likes cuddling with you on his chest so he’ll play with your fur/hair while you play with his chest fur

Dolph

Can and will fall asleep randomly if you scritch and scratch about anywhere on him

Scritching his mane? Asleep. Cuddling and scratching his back? Asleep. Watching a movie and scratching his arm or thigh? Asleep.

He denies that you petting him makes him tired but if it works in front of the rest of the shishigumi, it’s pretty hard for him to deny

Agata

Agata LOVES head scratches!

Free might drag your hand from whatever you’re doing but agata will pick you up and make you cuddle and scratch his head

His tail has a soft slow swing when you scratch and straightens out when you scratch in the right place.

Lays you on your back so he can rest his head on your tummy

Gets distracted and starts tracing little stars and hearts into your thighs or starts drumming his fingers on you

Agata Nuzzles and bumps his head into the crook of your neck or your shoulder if he wants your attention

Sabu

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT touch his hair if it’s up in the mohawk

He wakes up early to do it and he WILL get pissed if you mess it up. (He makes you sleep with a pillow between you and him)

He much prefers playing messing with your hair/fur

In fact he loves it so much, he’ll drag you to bed and he will make you lay on top of him

Don’t get up, he pouts

Hino

Even if you mess with his hair, it always looks so effortlessly good

Which is good cause he loves head scratches

Doesn’t ask you for them but if your in bed and you start he’ll be very happy

Likes to reciprocate the scratches with some of his own so he’ll scratch your back while you scratch his mane

He brags about it. “What happened to my mane? Oh well my beloved plays with my hair, it’s so nice!”

Dope

You don’t know when you started playing with Dope’s mane.

You think it happened one day when you were both off of work just laying in bed chatting, then somehow Dope’s heads on your chest and your hand is in his mane

Yes, dope’s negotiations and convincing skills come in handy when he wants certain affections

He just scoots closer and closer slowly so you don’t realize until he’s basically on top of you

Then he holds your hand and slowly brings it to his head, then let’s go and expects you to get the memo

You tell him he can just ask but he just likes being sneaking

Miguel

Well I mean… you can’t really play with his mane cause of the braids

But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like scratches

Things in place of his mane (that he WILL encourage you to scratch): his chin, the back of his neck, his back, his biceps, his sides, anywhere where you can get your hands on him

Istg this man loves getting affection

He likes when y’all hug and you start scratching. (Careful, he might fall asleep and you might get stuck in his arms)

This guy,,, is a little twerp about it

He loves scratches just about everywhere but he likes to lie about it

He gets all pouty when you start but three minutes in he’s holding you in place making sure that you don’t stop

AND YET HE WILL STILL DENY THAT HE ENJOYS IT

He just likes to see you get all fussy when he Denys it.

He starts scratching you back offhandedly when he zones out

Don’t point it out cause he will stop (he’s a little shithead about it lol)

Sorry this took so long (I’m lazy) but I hope these are good!

My brain-hole is so full of ideas, and no technical skill to make use of them aside from vomiting into a pile of Google Spreadsheets.

If I had money, I’d put my thoughts into words, commission an artist, and learn unity to make what I want, and I plan to eventually… but for now I will boil and simmer over many interesting game settings.
