You know what I would have liked to see in The Hobbit movies? Aragorn as a child, just chilling in Rivendell.
He’s like, what, five, when The Hobbit begins? I would have loved to see him living in Rivendell, and then spotting Bilbo and getting *so excited* to see another child because every other person there is an elf who is like, 1000 years old AT LEAST and “Elrond finally brought someone to hang out with me!”
And Bilbo never bothers to tell him that “actually, I’m a 50 year old hobbit, I just never got taller than you” and when Aragorn asked him to play, he just says “sure”. And suddenly a child is teaching him how to spar and use a sword, and Bilbo is teaching a 5 year old how to blow special smoke rings and appreciate different types of pipe weed.
I like to imagine it’s during this time that Bilbo writes the verses for Aragorn, the “Not all those who wander are lost” lines. Except it’s not meant to be epic, he makes it up as like, a nursery rhyme to make Aragorn GO TO SLEEP so Bilbo can go ice his injuries from learning to spar. And the verses just stuck with Aragorn and spread for the next 80 years until suddenly everyone is reciting them to him and he has to fight back the Pavlovian yawn he gets every time he hears them.
I think this is also why he’s so attached to Frodo. Not only does he have an affinity for hobbits, but Bilbo has been his Best Friend since he was a kid, and he knows if he lets anything happen to Frodo, Bilbo will never forgive him.

“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” James asks his father in the middle of one of many arguments. “Do I remind you of a man we’ve never met? Am I in honor of someone you watched die? Because I don’t want it.” When James Sirius Potter looks at himself in the mirror, he sees a mess of reddish brown curls and slightly askew glasses and freckles everywhere. He sees hands that climb trees and grip tightly to broomsticks. He sees his mother’s smile and hears his father’s voice. Because James seems like the thick goofball of the family, but he reads history book after history book, wishing to never repeat the sins of their fathers. If he saw any of James Potter he wouldn’t recognize him at all, and maybe, he fears, that’s where he falls short.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Albus says one day to Rose as they sit by the Great Lake. “Names of men who I think aren’t the heroes I’ve been told about. Men I’m told are brave but seem just as bad as the rest.” Albus Severus Potter loves being called Al and having his hair ruffled by his friends. He loves sitting on high ledges and looking out at the vast sky and thinking about what is on the other side of the earth. Albus Potter sticks his nose in old books and keeps to himself and has no desire for greatness in any form. He doesn’t want to lead a war or be a spy. He wants to be Al and bake with his grandmother on Sundays and give his sister piggyback rides. And, most days, that feels like admitting failure.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Lily shouts one day with tears in her eyes. “I’m not her, I’m not her, I’m not her,” she repeats over and over again. Because Lily Luna Potter is a Slytherin and brutal and fierce and full of fire and made of stone. She is not soft and kind - she is not the woman who saved her child from death. Because she can be selfish and harsh and unforgiving. She spends her mornings running through the icy, frozen woods and her nights leaning over windowsills because the rush is just right. Lily Potter will fight to the death, but for no one but herself. And does that make her somehow distorted, she wonders as she flips through photo after photo of a young woman with pretty eyes she doesn’t have and gentle hands that she will never understand.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” Fred chokes through sobs as he rushes past his mother. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to be named for someone who haunts us every day and every night? Can you imagine being named for someone you can never look like because of your skin?” Because Fred Weasley ties up his wild dark hair into a thick ponytail when it’s time to play Quidditch and sees deep brown eyes when he looks at his reflection. Because Fred is dark skinned like his mother and will never look like his namesake, and is he resented for that? Is it worse to look like the brother that his father lost or to not resemble someone he loved at all? Because, most days, Fred is already different than the rest of his cousins and friends. Fred loves to laugh and play the highest caliber of pranks, because Fred is a Weasley…but that is something that no one can physically see, and that’s what’s the most terrifying.
“I know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Teddy tells them all at some point, his hands on their shoulders or pulling them into a tight hug. “I know what it’s like to remind the person you love of all who they’ve lost. How much it hurts.” Because Teddy Lupin is named for a man who was killed alone and frightened in the woods over twenty years ago. He is his mother when he decides he likes the color pink and his father when his eyes morph into an almond amber. Because he is an orphan and no different from Harry…and he can understand how their father feels, because he wishes to honor those who died for him, too. Because he knows he is nothing like Ted Tonks, and yet his name carries a piece of his grandfather with him and that’s why Grandmother can only call him “Teddy,” otherwise she’d burst into tears. Because Teddy Lupin lives in between Harry and George and their children - born into war and only knowing peace. And so Teddy understands exactly what it is to be named for the dead, and knows exactly why it is so important to do so.
And even as he tries to tell them all this, he feels hot tears running down his cheeks and wonders to his parents, who have never been there, “Do you know what it is to be named for the dead?”

I need them to become friends, just so they can judge people and cook together.

Bruce: I’ll go first, I need you all to pay attention to this.
[collective groan]
Bruce: I want to refresh you all on some rules that some of you seem to have forgotten about recently.
Jason: I wouldn’t have come to this if I knew it was just a briefing on the Bat-rulebook.
Damian: It’s about time you hooligans faced the consequences of ignoring Father’s rules.

I was planning to take a small social media break but I saw the amazing headcanon that Argyle and Billy might have been friends in California! It such a sweet idea that I just had to draw something with that :) There’s something so special about childhood friendships and having seen someone through everything including growth spurts and the preteen awkward phase! And in a scenario where Billy lived, seeing that pizza van would be like some sort of miracle after everything he’s endured.
the thing about Hozier is that he's gonna use mythology, literature and folklore to be horny and to make his songs political every time and i'm gonna eat it up every time
psssst... add that Florence + The Machine song to that playlist. Add that Hozier song. Add that Mitski song. Add that popular bop. Someone's art touched you to your core and relates to you, as it did with millions of other people
that's not cliché
that's the fucking human experience, gorgeous
oh my fucking god THANK YOU! these are literally my exact thoughts?! do you have any idea how hard it is to find fanfic that doesn't bash ron but is anti hermione? i don't hat her either and can sometimes enjoy her character but i get tired of the same thing over and over where ron is an evil bastard and hermione is everything good and pure in the world.
percy is the best hp character full stop.
I have several posts about my issues with the twins but it mostly boils down to them almost killing a classmate for a stupid reason and send him into catatonia.
love this post!
What harry potter characters do you love but have no problem with people bashing? and what characters can you not stand being bashed?
Hello anon!
Aight, let’s get to work:
Harry Potter himself:
He can be painfully stupid a lot of the times, but gets bursts of intelligence every once in a while cause of plot reasons, can be quite insensitive, and can be pretty arrogant.
Hermione Granger:
She acts morally superior just because she reads more than others, she’s judgemental, close-minded, bitchy, and can do some EXTREMELY fucked up things. I think of her as completely grey when her character gets looked at objectively, because—unfortunately due to Harry being Mr. POV and Hermione being Rowling’s self-insert—many horrifying things she’s done get glossed over.
Draco Malfoy:
I do love him (he’s my 2nd favourite HP character) but there’s no denying that he was a blood-prejudiced bully who deserved a punch in the face, and I 100% understand why people dislike/hate him. I only like anti Draco content when it’s from Snape fans, other fans can be too much sometimes.
Ginny Weasley:
She was an absolute bitch in HBP! The way she treated Ron and Fleur made me wanna throat-punch her. Throughout HBP, she was horrible to him about both his insecurities with Quidditch and his insecurities with relationship experience—even when Ron was being overprotective when he saw her making out with Dean, he definitely did not deserve that.
Remus Lupin:
Remus and I… we have an odd relationship. I love Remus. I do… I really really do… but the things he does sometimes make me want to go “NYAHHHHHHHHHHHH” every time I reread the series. Most of his fans overlook his flaws, which is incredibly disappointing because I find his complexity and flaws extremely fascinating… that’s literally why I loved him in the first place. Even when criticising him, his fans still tend to gloss over the negative aspect(s) of his character. Unfortunately, I’m on the anti side when it comes to him, I only interact with his fans if they’re Remadora (and a lot of the times Prongsfoot) shippers.
I’m not gonna bash him or explain anymore cause it’s actually his birthday today and I only just remembered it a few minutes ago. I was actually planning on making an anti post about him today but then I remembered it was his birthday today and I just can’t do it. I love him too much to do that.😭😭 So yeah, you guys are gonna have to wait a few more days until I make an anti post about Remus, sorry not sorry.
Fred and George:
They were cruel bullies a lot of the times. Their flaws get overlooked by a majority of this fandom and they’re seen as harmless pranksters, which is rather irritating. They tried to lock Percy in cursed pyramid, which I’m pretty sure can count as attempted murder, and they gave Ron arachnophobia. The twins show a blatant disregard for people’s safety and well-being a lot of the times.
I’m gonna stop here and just say that: I’m alright with almost all HP characters being criticised and sometimes bashed. Every single HP character is problematic—besides Luna and Neville. There’s nothing wrong with pointing out their flaws. Over exaggerating their flaws? Yes, that’s wrong. But merely pointing them out? Nope.
Ron Weasley:
Most of the things he did that he gets bashed for are completely normal for a teenager. I mean… making an ass of yourself during a party, getting mad at your friend(s) over silly things, dating someone you aren’t really interested in because you like the attention, getting jealous, saying mindless things without thinking it through etc etc. Those are teenage mistakes. That’s common teenage boy idiocy. This fandom excuses Draco and the Marauders’ heinous acts by claiming that “they were just teenagers🥺” but when Ron does things that are 100% normal and are done many times in real life, he gets demonised for it. Make it make sense people!
Percy Weasley:
How. Fucking. DARE. YOU. What did he even do?? His family (besides Molly) was horrible to him! He never bothered anyone and no one in his family gave a shit about him except when Gred and Feorge (not a mistake) treated him like crap. He deeply cared about Ginny and Ron, and Arthur didn’t even try to make things better despite them literally working at the same place. Let’s not forget that no one besides Molly bothered contacting him for years… and when there was a war going on. Upsetting Molly is literally the ONLY bad thing he ever did, other than that he never did nothing wrong.
Tom Riddle Sr:
He. Literally. Did. Nothing. Wrong. You guys are demonising him… because he “abandoned” his RAPIST? His R-A-P-I-S-T? Is this fandom fucking ill? He had every right to leave his son and Merope, he was raped… repeatedly… for months. The victim can never be blamed for not wanting to face the reminder of their trauma for the rest of their lives. He was kind to Cecelia and comforted her when she was shocked by Morfin’s dead snake. And the only people he was ever rude to were the Gaunts and they were pretty much insane. One called him “filthy” and one hexed him.
Have a nice day, anon!
TW for suicide
So I know that about everyone assumes that Ben died because The Horror ripped him apart. And while that I a completely valid assumption and tbh most likely what happened I’m just going to put out my own Head Cannon before season 2 comes out and we have a chance of finding out the truth.
We know that Ben’s power was a horrible one. We know that he hated it. He hated the killing and the tentacles sprouting from his chest and the dimension in his stomach and being covered with blood and body parts as actual human beings get ripped up in front of him. He hated it. We also know that Klaus sees Ghosts as they died. What they were wearing, how old they were, every injury they have. So consider:
If Ben was ripped apart by The Horror on a mission or in training...where was his uniform? where were his injuries? He is wearing a hoodie and a leather jacket and jean. We all know Reginald would have never allowed that during training or on a mission. And why is his body not ripped to shreds or at least full of lacerations and blood.
I propose an alternate theory. What if he killed himself? Its not too far a stretch really. Steal a handgun from ol’ Reggies office, wear normal clothes bc its free time or bc you know what you’re planning and judging by Klaus’ powers don’t want to be stuck in the uniform for eternity. It would be worth the risk for Ben. No more killing. I think he shot himself through the roof of his mouth and back of his skull. We almost always see him with his hood up or only from the front. The few shots we do get of the back of his skull are fleeting or its dark. At that stage of his life Ben would have probably done anything to get rid of The Horror. Why not that?
