DISSONANCE - A RUPPHIRE FAN SONG
@insectoid5 @makingtodayaperfectday did you want to hear this? (crystal jams forever!)
This was inspired by @jen-iii’s beautiful comic strip which can be found here. (Hope you don’t mind.) Although I thought it would be presumptuous to use the actual dialogue, it got me thinking about the difficulties that Ruby and Sapphire would encounter at the start of their fused relationship. Sharing the same mind was never going to be easy, but their love will pull them through :)
This goes out to @squaremomgsquad for making me feel so welcome in the fandom!
It’s set as a dialogue between Ruby and Sapphire with a bit of Garnet thrown in. The coda is pretty cryptic so if you get what it means then thank you ~
Lyrics:
This is it, how it goes
It was never perfect, I suppose
Just the two of us, just the one of me
How it should be
Your thoughts bleeding into mine
And they stumble and spill and cross the line
No you can’t touch that bit, that bit’s mine
But you can’t have secrets when you share the same mind
Oh really, watch me try
It’ll never work - oh of course, how could I
Forget, you can see the future, right
Well you couldn’t foresee how I saved your life before…
I’m sorry, I went too far
It’s all my fault we keep falling apart
No, don’ t say that, we’re both to blame
I just don’t understand, it’s never the same anymore…
Do you remember the feeling
The utter bliss, the joy of disappearing
Now we’re dissonance, I don’t know what to do
Well if we can’t be at the same pitch
We may as well play in tune
If we can’t be one, we should try and like being two…
(oohs)
We can’t go on like this forever
Using all our strength just to hold ourselves together
When you’re dissonant then love becomes so hard
So we’ll just sit and talk about anything
Under the stars
Not perfect, but we’re making a start…
(aahs)
And maybe we’ll hear the fleeting chime
Of how it sounded that first time
And I’ll pull you close and our gems will shine
Run my hand through your hair, except it’ll be mine
And maybe we’ll hear the fleeting chime
Of how it sounded that first time
And I’ll pull you close and our gems will shine
And I’ll open your eyes, but by then they’ll be mine…
P.S. Ignore my awful breath control. And clunky strumming. And picking patterns. This mini ukulele is hard to play!
@squaremomgsquad @stevenuniversse
(@jasper-jen I forgot to ask you, but would you like to hear this? Sorry)
A cheesy song I wrote and recorded about the Crystal Gems (some parts Rose in particular, but there are allusions to all of them) and their mission.
It’s not a perfect recording - there’s a lot of fuzz for one thing because my mic is cheap, and some parts are out-of-time - but I had fun playing with texture and not really caring about scansion. And look out for a familiar tune in the violin part! It didn’t really fit the chords without a bit of adjustment, but I couldn’t resist :)
Reblogs are appreciated (because this took a lot of false starts and growling at the microphone, as well as reviving my violin from a coma)
(If you like it, check out my other SU fan song, Dissonance!)

The original uke demo of “It’s Over”
This may have been the hardest song I’ve written to date, I wrote and scrapped 5 or 6 versions before arriving at this… the long held note at the end after Pearl throws the rose in the air was a request from Joe, this raw recording predates it! Deedee, Aivi & Surasshu turned this song into something so incredible… infinite thanks to them and to Jeff Ball on strings… this episode was a dream made real for me and I’m so so grateful to my amazing team!!!
“Lapis’ Flight” from Same Old World. Thank you to Jeff Ball for his lovely string performances, Jesse Knowles for his bold trumpet, and Kristin Naigus for her lyrical clarinet and flute playing. We’re excited to work with our friends from the videogame music scene! The gorgeous concept artwork is by Ricky Cometa.
The baseball montage theme from Hit the Diamond. This track is a tapestry of Gem instruments. The Ruby and Sapphire drawings are by Rebecca Sugar! I love these lovebirds.
There’s a whole lot of Steven coming your way! See you next week!
From whats been happening recently, I can only assume that the Mayans we’re wrong.
