Working These Days Has Been A Little Difficult For Me. As I Mentioned, I Moved To Live In Canada Last

Working these days has been a little difficult for me. As I mentioned, I moved to live in Canada last week and for now, I don’t have a place to live. I’m staying in the house of a friend and I have spent most of my time getting used to the weather in Vancouver and looking for a house. So far so good. I like changes and I think that being uncomfortable, sometimes just shakes the routine away and forces you to try new things. In my life, I have lived in eight different places. What do you think about moving from your comfort zone? Read you in the comments.

Lowland Tapir This species is a little bit tricky. English books just recognize one species, while Spanish and Portuguese recognize four. Since the animal is from South America and most of the biologists who studied this animal are from there, I will believe their information has more credibility. Therefore, I will present four subspecies of Lowland Tapir. Let’s begin. Tapirus terrestris aenigmaticus From what I understood and what I have seen, this one coloration is darker. This might not be a parameter to identify the subspecies, since animals of the same species can present various colorations. However, its skull presents substantial differences.

This subspecies inhabits the South East of Colombia, Ecuador, and the North of Peru. ___________________________________ Credits: Tapirus terrestris aenigmaticus Lowland Tapir Photo Credits: Ellen van Yperen ___________________________________ Store Instagram Thank you guys! Sri Lankan Spotted Chevrotain

Sri Lankan Spotted Chevrotain

What we know about nature is never carved on stone. What at some point in history we believe is the irrefutable truth, deeper studies of the subject often prove us wrong.

It was until 2005 that this species was separated from its closest relative, The Indian Spotted Chevrotain (Which I introduced last week) and today is recognized as a whole new species. Is obvious to say now, that not much is known about this

Przewalski's Horse:

Przewalski's Horse:

The Przewalski Horse is the only truly wild horse that remains. Extinct at some point for more than 30 years, it was the zoos who actually brought them back. By 1940′s its number began to decline rapidly and by 1969 after a fruitless search, only one individual was spotted in the wild. Only a handful of this animals were surviving in some of the zoos of Europe.

A breeding program began in the Netherlands by 1977. By 1979 the program was able to maximize the genetic diversity from the almost 400 individuals spread in 16th different facilities. By early 1900s, the number of horses increased by over 1500. The horse is now reintroduced to its natural habitat and today it’s numbers remain stable.

Zoos are controversial but I personally think they are crucial at the conservation of the species (I’m talking about zoos that are actually working on precede the life of many species, not the ones that are created just for our own selfish enjoyment). There is of course room for improvement but a zoo is not what it used to be 40 years ago. There is a better understanding of the behavior of the animals today and this allow us to make better enclosures that are a more friendly space for the animals inside.

On the other hand, we are making the world an uncertain place. Many of the habitats are being vanished from earth and many species have seen their numbers drastically reduced because of this. Maybe the zoos are the new futuristic Noah’s Arc. A place for recovery, where endanger animals can survive in this uncertain times. Then, we can have more time to learn how to live on earth without destroying it and put them back where they belong once everything is safe again.

If is not for zoos, the Przewalski Horse would have vanished from earth many years ago.

PD. I change a little the layout. What do you think?

Mexican Pronghorn

Mexican Pronghorn

The number of these animals has been reduced by %99. It has been tried to be reintroduced in Coahuila, Mexico in 1995 and 1998 but the results haven't been promising.

Low nutrients plants, lack of water that many times compete with cattle, and the number of predators haven't created the best environment for the Pronghorn to flourish. These elements have resulted in the distress of the animals that aren't able to reproduce normally. Babyrousa – Deer-pigs

Babyrousa – deer-pigs

The last one of this big family, the weirdo of the weirdos and one of the most valuable for me, the Babirusa. Since I was a kid I was amazed by this strange animal that tusk can grow so curve that can break its skin and sometimes the skull.

There are many subspecies still to confirm. So far, three are accepted.

Moluccan Babirusa: This species is poorly known because many of the studies done to this species, where actually done to another subspecies, the North Sulawesi Babirusa.

Togian babirusa: As usual the main threat of this species is the destruction of this habitat. It is also tracked if the animal eats the crops of the villagers. However, the animal is not eaten by the people because the population is mostly muslim therefore, refuse to eat pork.

North Sulawesi Babirusa: In 2006, a male North Sulawesi Babirusa and a female domestic pig were accidentally allowed to interbreed in the Copenhagen Zoo. The offspring were 5 hybrid piglets with teeth most resembling the North Sulawesi Babirusa, while their color was highly variable.

I’ve been having trouble with Tumblr. My post simply don’t appear in the search no matter how strange are my tags. Tumbler didn’t give me any solution so I decided to move to Instagram. I already open an account so if you want to follow me, just click on the link:  Species of the World I will keep posting here until I updated my instagram account. Thanks for the support.

Next, some nice posters of all the boar family and the peccary family.

I Think We Take Giraffes For Granted. Studying Its Evolution Must Be Really Fascinating. How An Animal

I think we take giraffes for granted. Studying its evolution must be really fascinating. How an animal evolved its neck in such a long size in order to reach food that no other could? And, Why is not strange to us an animal with such particular features? Still is great that an animal had developed weird characteristics to survive but I see some holes in its path of evolution. That will be when they have to go to the ground. I don't think there is any other animal in nature that have to put itself in such a very uncomfortable position in order to do something that is so vital and "simple" as drinking water. I would love to live millions of years more to see where the evolution of the giraffe will go. I would love even more that the giraffes last enough to keep evolving. Thornicroft's Giraffe It is also called the Rhodesian Giraffe. It is commonly seen as a subspecies of the Masai Giraffe but some scientists believe is a single species. This subspecies has a particularly long neck and is among the largest of all subspecies of Giraffes. It has been seen that the coat of giraffes darkens when they grow up which could be a way to know the age of an animal. However, further studies need to be conducted.

Is a giraffe exclusive to Zambia and its numbers are no longer than 550 individuals. No populations are kept in captivity and tourism has been a way to protect them since they are a very popular sight in Africa. 20% off in my store starting tomorrow and running the whole next week. Oregon Pronghorn From This Subspecies, I Couldn't Find Much. At The Point That I'm Not Sure If This Subspecies

Oregon Pronghorn From this subspecies, I couldn't find much. At the point that I'm not sure if this subspecies actually exist. It could be the one that is the most spread from all the subspecies or one that is confined to a small area in Oregon. If you know something about this one, please share it with us. Thanks!
