Singing Tip #4

Learn how to properly pronounce dipthongs when singing. A dipthong is a word that has one vowel, but two vowel sounds.

For example, “light” . It only has one vowel (I) but if you say it slowly you’ll hear that you pronounce it as “ah- eet” .

So when you’re singing, if you have to hold a note on the word “light” you need to be aware that it’s a dipthong. So instead of holding the “I” as “iiiiiiiiii” you should hold the “aaaaaaahhhhh” and then right as you stop, finish with the “eet” sound.

Holding the wrong vowel and under enunciating words can take away from the quality of your voice and leads to a bad performance.

I'm an aspiring artist, kinda Any specific tips?

I’m also still learning myself but I’ll give you some tips that helped me get to where i am today :D

Use REFERENCES! Don’t ever feel ashamed or embarrassed to, they seriously help. They will help you learn. I use to use reference for poses all the time in till I felt confident enough to start drawing my own poses from my head. using those references helped me learn some things about anatomy that i never noticed before. So use references for something you’re not really confident enough in till you do feel confident.

Get INSPIRATION. Find artists who inspire you (the more the better) if you just love the way they draw faces, or landscapes, or anything. examine their style copy a few of their drawings (its fine as long as you don’t post it or anything) use it as a reference, it will help you learn a few things and develop a style of your own. I have many artists i look up to and sometimes when i feel uninspired or on an art block, i would sometimes visit their blogs and just look at their art and it makes me feel like drawing something (I don’t think this works on everyone though)

POST THINGS! let people see your work. When someone likes it or re-blogs it or leaves a comment, it is like the best feeling ever! it will makes you want to draw even more and post your art. i highly recommend you to download this app called “art amino” it’s amazing for artists who want their work to be noticed. art amino is a very friendly community full of artists who also want to improve, they try to help each other out. Ive made so many good friends on that app and it gave me the confidence to post my art on bigger sites like Tumblr XD

DRAW DRAW DRAW! buy like one of those cute minnie sketchbooks where you can carry around everywhere, and draw in there when you have the chance, maybe have a goal to fill it in by the end of the year or something. dont over work your self though, it could hurt you, if you are ever on an art block, just walk away and do something else for a while, like watch a movie.

PATIENCE AND PRACTISE!!!!!! I know you probably get told that a lot but seriously i think that practise is the most important! I know that anyone can draw, the problem is not everyone wants to, and the people who want to, get discouraged if they don’t see results fast enough. BUT GETTING GOOD AT SOMETHING LIKE REALLY GOOD IS A VERY SLOW PROGRESS! Everyone starts from a level 0, everyone starts from nothing, i started from nothing, every big successful person started from nothing, its just the will to not give up no matter how hard it gets is what not every person has. everyone has the ability but not the will. BE THAT PERSON WHO HAS THE WILL!!! I believe in you!! no but for real, you can do it <3

Here are some links to stuff that really helped me out :D

Elentori’s Insp Blog- super cool i can just scroll through it forever (sadly it doesn’t go on forever :P)

References- these are suuuper helpful!!

tutorials- these are badass B)

character design references - <333

Ross Draws - very helpful for who wants to draw like a badass digitally

Mary doodles- very entertaining and awesome for traditional artists

Markcrilley - Very amazing realistic drawings! and also Manga XD

Fine Art-Tips - for traditional artists (He’s amazing)

DrawingWiffWaffles- she’s super cool! just look at her sketchbook vids! inspirational :P

Draw with Jazza- does many tutorials (for almost everything art related) also does cool art competitions

there are more but i don’t want to make this post too longbut I really hope I helps :)

Writing Character Relationships

Character relationships are important to add dimension to the characters and can help make them and the plot more realistic. This isn’t just for romantic relationships because building the characters’ platonic and familial relationships are important as well. So here are a few tips on creating believable and endearing relationships your readers will love.

Don’t rush into it. This goes for platonic relationships as well as romantic ones. A big cliché complaint with romance stories is that the two characters tend to meet and fall head over heels in love with each other after two conversations or one loving glance across the room (sorry Romeo and Juliet). While romantic connections can begin on the first date, the characters probably shouldn’t be professing undying love and devotion to each other an hour after meeting. The problem isn’t so much the length of time that they’ve known each other as it is how well they know each other, which is why character friendships need time too. If your characters spend two full days together where they really get to know each other deeply and we can see the progression from strangers to people who understand each other, great. If their relationship spans a year but all they do is check each other out then you have a problem. Make them know each other and interact in meaningful ways to create the relationship and show how it came to be.

Show their history. Not every relationship your characters have is going to be created in the span of time in which the story takes place. Your character might have a best friend they’ve known for ten years or three older siblings. Just because these predate the beginning of the story doesn’t mean you don’t have to show what kind of relationship they have. You can say that so-and-so is the best friend but you have to make us believe it. Are they the kind of friends that tell each other everything, like even what they probably shouldn’t? Or are they more the kind that have fun and leave the drama when they go out? Show what kind of relationship the characters have rather than just telling.

Give the reader a sense of why the relationship fits. In some stories you read about the guy and the girl who are just so cute together and they’re falling in love but…why? Why does this pairing work? Having things in common is important, particularly in things that are important to the character, like values. But they can and should also have differences, some of which serve to make the other better. Together they should push each other and support each other. If you make them connect in this way it makes the connection much stronger to the reader and that makes them want to cheer them on more. If it’s all about the smooching it can get rather boring quite quickly.

Make them complete without the other(s). I know I just said that making the characters push each other is a good thing, but they still need to be complete characters on their own. If the only real thing you can say about the character is that they are X’s soulmate or best friend, then they’re not a character. It’s more interesting to see how people interact with each other than Love Interests™ following each other around.

it’s already starting to get uncomfortably warm where I live, so here are some hot weather survival tips to help y’all keep looking effortlessly flawless even when your face feels like it’s melting off

You want sweatproof foundation? Add a primer and a setting spray to your makeup routine. e.l.f. has pretty decent ones for really great prices (the primer is like $3-5 depending on the store you go to, and the setting spray is like $3-7), and they’re cruelty-free!

You wanna wear a skirt/dress, but your thighs are all chafe-y? Rub some deodorant on the inside of your thighs to help eliminate friction. It may sound weird but it really does help.

If you live somewhere that has really humid summers, you can keep your hair from getting too crazy frizzy by using a serum (I use Designline’s Silk Drops, but that one’s a little pricey – OGX has a good one that’s way cheaper and smells like coconut). Squeeze a dime-sized amount into your hand, rub your fingers together, and run it through the length of your hair. If you want to go a step further, you can spray some hairspray into your hand, rub your hands together, and then run your hands over your hair to smooth it down.

BB cream is generally lighter and less cake-y than foundation, and in hot weather it’s less likely to melt off. I haven’t found a good cruelty-free one that’s pale enough for me yet, but Maybelline has a decent one that I used to use.

Liquid eyeliner is sweatproof, and the really good ones are even pool-proof. You should also make sure your mascara is waterproof so it won’t run when you sweat.

DO NOT SHAVE EVERY DAY. Shaving too often will give you dry skin and razor burn, which is super uncomfortable. You should be shaving every 2-3 days AT THE MOST. Also, use conditioner instead of shaving cream (it’s cheaper and works way better) and apply lotion as soon as you finish shaving.

If you’re struggling with sweaty skin and summer acne, try using a face wash, scrub, or mask with activated charcoal in it. It sounds weird, but it really works and is gentle enough for sensitive skin.

If your face gets all shiny over the course of the day, you might want to look into getting some blotting sheets (or “oil-absorbing sheets,” as they’re sometimes labeled) to keep in your backpack or purse. You just pat them on your face, and they absorb all the extra oil and help you look more matte and less shiny. You don’t even have to buy special blotting sheets – I had a friend who made her own by just cutting some tissue paper into little squares, and they worked really well!

Dry shampoo is a lifesaver, especially if your hair gets greasy and sweaty during the day. You can buy a cute lil bottle to keep in your purse, and use as needed throughout the day.

Every March/April, Walmart starts selling cheap flip flops for like a dollar a pair. I highly recommend going and buying a pair or two, because it’s honestly never a bad idea to have some cheap flip flops on hand, especially if you go swimming a lot.

Coconut oil is your best friend. You can put it on your lips to keep them soft and plump, you can put it in your hair as a deep conditioning treatment, you can use it to soften dry, rough skin like on your elbows and the soles of your feet – just do whatever. You can also substitute it for vegetable oil when you bake cookies or brownies; it tastes better and is better for you. 10/10

If you’re insecure about wearing revealing clothing because you have scars/stretch marks/ect., Vitamin E oil is really great for helping them fade. I am very clumsy and scar very easily, and this stuff is a life saver. (And of course, scars and stretch marks are nothing to be ashamed of – I personally think stretch marks are extremely adorable and love mine a lot – but if yours make you uncomfortable you have every right to use a treatment like this to make them less noticeable.)

I know you’ve probably already heard this a million times, but YOU NEED TO DRINK WATER. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S HOT AND YOU’RE SWEATING. Trust me, dehydration and heat stroke are not fun, you do not wanna go there. Drink whenever you have the chance. And yes, it does have to be water. Soda literally just makes you more dehydrated.

If you’re going to go to the beach or pool, go in the late afternoon/evening (like 4:00 p.m. or later). It’ll be way, way less crowded, and the sun will already be starting to chill out, so you have way less of a chance of getting burned.

If you DO get sunburned, aloe vera gel can save the day. When I was fourteen I got a sunburn so bad that I couldn’t sleep (because my soft, silky sheets were hurting me when they rubbed my skin) and almost had permanent scarring. My friend brought me some of this stuff and not only did it provide instant pain relief, but my burns healed completely and didn’t scar!

If you are out in the sun and start to feel dizzy, lightheaded, or nauseous, or if you develop a headache, get yourself to a cool, shady place (preferably inside an air-conditioned building) IMMEDIATELY.

DON’T WEAR SANDALS TO A CONCERT, FESTIVAL, OR OTHER OUTDOORS EVENT. TRUST ME. YOUR FEET WILL GET SO DIRTY AND GROSS, IT’S NOT WORTH IT.

You can make a really good body scrub by combining sugar, olive oil or honey, and a few drops of lemon juice. You can use it to exfoliate your body or even your face, especially if your skin gets kind of rough during the summer.

I probably sound like such a mom right now, but please don’t forget to sleep this summer. Teens and adults need AT LEAST eight hours a night to function normally, and lack of sleep can lead to heightened anxiety and lack of focus, and can even make you gain or retain weight.

Eating is important, too. I know I, for one, sometimes forget to feed myself if someone doesn’t remind me, but it’s important to make sure you’re getting 1200-1600 calories a day at the very least. And obviously you’ll need to eat more on days that you’re walking or exercising a lot, like if you go to a festival or on a hike.

Inner Ramblings

Right now this is just anything that comes to mind since I'm a complete noob at tumblr. I've been hearing about it for years but I never really felt like I had anything to say. Well all that has changed now and I figured I'd see what all the hype about tumlr is really about. Anyway don't take anything I say too seriously for now...I'll probably change it later when I become more comfortable with this website.
