Kenneth Jacobs awarded Simon Wiesenthal Center's Humanitarian Award

The most successful Simon Wiesetnthal Award dinner ever, the dinner raised $1.6 million.

The Wiesenthal Center is “a living memorial to the memory of a great man — Simon Wiesenthal — who died eight years ago at the age of 96, sixty years after his liberation,” New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo said: “Now some will say that the Center’s mission is complete.” Apropos the emergence of anti-Semitism worldwide, Cuomo cited incidents in France when “last month a group of Jews were attacked by a gang of teenagers…in Spain two months ago…’Adolf Hitler was right’ was painted across a bullfight arena…. It is very much a real threat in the world we live in…. So Simon Wiesenthal was right and you are right to be here this evening. We need a strong Israel and we need a strong America…working hand-in-glove because they are the bulwarks for democracy on this globe.” At the dinner Kenneth Jacobs, Lazard Ldt.'s Chairman and CEO was awarded the Centers Humanitarian Award.

There’s A War Raging Between Establishment And Movement Conservatives For The Soul Of The Republican

There’s a war raging between establishment and movement conservatives for the soul of the Republican Party. The next battlefield is at the ballot box in less than two weeks in a rural South Alabama district.

The proxy fight is a special primary runoff in the state’s 1st Congressional District, where establishment-backed Bradley Byrne and Tea Party insurgent Dean Young are vying to succeed former GOP Rep. Jo Bonner, who resigned from Congress in August to take a job with the University of Alabama.

This Is The First Trailer For ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

This is the first trailer for ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Next month Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World will be hitting theaters, but it’s already time to start looking ahead to what next year holds. This first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier gives us a look at Chris Evans in the title role, along with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as the venerable Nick Fury, and Robert Redford. We liked the footage we saw earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo mentioning 1970s spy thrillers as a particular stylistic point of reference.

Paul Allen And The Machines: Teaching The Next Generation Of Artificial Intelligence

Paul Allen and the Machines: Teaching the next generation of artificial intelligence

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been pondering artificial intelligence since he was a kid. In the late ’60s, eerily intelligent computers were everywhere, whether it was 2001’s HAL or Star Trek’s omnipresent Enterprise computer. As Allen recalls in his memoir, “machines that behaved like people, even people gone mad, were all the rage back then.” He would tag along to his father’s job at the library, overwhelmed by the information, and daydream about “the sci-fi theme of a dying or threatened civilization that saves itself by finding a trove of knowledge.” What if you could collect all the world’s information in a single computer mind, one capable of intelligent thought, and be able to communicate in simple human language?

Until recently, I have not used the term

Until recently, I have not used the term “stock market crash”. I do not take using this term lightly. It brings with it major repercussions. I am now breaking out this phrase because of the current state of the stock market. This stock market crash will occur within the next 6 months from today, October 24th, 2013. The markets will fall within a combined day/few days a total of at least 20%. Bookmark this article. Poor earnings continue to hammer individual names in almost all regions of the stock market. The U.S government continues to bicker over the debt ceiling and spending. The global picture is showing another real estate bubble in China and Europe is still an absolute mess, contrary to what the big players are saying to the public. All these negatives have meant nothing as the Federal Reserve continues to and will continue to print tens of billions of Dollars a month, inflating the stock market. Recently, word has now come out that the Federal Reserve feels like they have the power to print unlimited amounts of money. In other words, ‘whatever it takes’ to bring the dual mandate in line. A reckoning day will happen and for the first time in years I am seeing the epic signals clearly. I call this technical signal the Devil Tail Formation. It is something I have not seen in the charts since 2007. The likely scenario would be for it to happen in 2014 but there is a small chance it happens prior. The house of cards will unfortunately fall as the biggest bubble ever created crumbles. Let’s be clear about bubbles. They are all Federal Reserve induced. Every one in the history of the stock market has been a manipulation technique headed by the biggest bankers in the world. My other prediction for the future will be that at some point years out, there will be talk of bringing federal charges against the top Federal Reserve officials as the people demand it. I have said my piece. Have a wonderful and happy evening! Gareth Soloway InTheMoneyStocks.com

Why we should nurture Googles of tomorrow

"I believe things can change. But instead of diverting huge national resources into house prices to fuel consumption, it means making an equivalent commitment to technology businesses, to long-term capital provision and to supporting our “Googles” of tomorrow."

Would you pay $2,000 for a GIF?

The artist Molly Soda, 24, is what you might call “Tumblr famous.” The short, green-haired Chicago native has about 30,000 followers on the platform, where she posts GIFs, selfie performance pieces, and undulating word art. “I’ve never sold any work that I wasn’t directly commissioned to do,” she says.

Today is #SpiritDay.

Did you know 82% of students report being verbally harassed in school because of their sexual orientation?

Did you know 64% of students report being verbally harassed in school because of their gender identity?

People all over the world wear purple on Spirit Day in a stand against bullying and to show their support for LGBTQ youth. Started on Tumblr and observed annually since 2010, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, and public figures wear purple, which symbolizes ‘spirit’ on the rainbow flag.

Getting involved is easy: just wear purple on October 17th and turn your blogs, Facebook and Twitter profile pics purple using the app for iPhone and Android to help create a world in which LGBT youth are celebrated and accepted for who they are. Upload photos of you wearing purple with the hashtag #SpiritDay to Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Google+!

Lazard sends George Bilicic to Chicago to reinvigorate the office.

George Bilicic new lead Lazard Ltd. investment banker in ChicagoTwo senior bankers on the deal-making side of Lazard Ltd.'s advisory business have exited the Chicago office earlier this year. In response Lazard has send George Bilicic Jr. to take control and reinvigorate the company office in Chicago. This is Mr. Bilicic second stint working with the Chicago office. He first started supervising the office remotely in 2006. When asked about his previous experience Mr. Bilicic said, "The chief lesson learned from that was that you couldn't be a suitcase banker and be successful with companies in the Midwest." In this round of work Mr. Bilicic is moving to the windy city with his family. He has never lived in Chicago before and plans to expand business by becoming active in city business as well as the civic scene, joining organization boards in the city and having his bankers to the same.

While Bilicic has not stated any specific boards or charities he plans to participate in his direct superior, Lazard CEO Kenneth Jacobs is a member of the board of trustees for the University of Chicago.  Lazard is a midsize international financial advisory and faces competition from Larger entities such as Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The company has about 2,400 employees world wide and aims to cut around 250 this year while expanding growth.  Lazard earning nearly doubled in the second quarter with $59.9 million. This is in part due to its jump in deals in its consumer, health care services and technology areas.
