I was today years old when I learned you don't have to be smart enough to evade your predators, it's enough to be very clumsy 😊

I think when they made rouge the bat they just had the concept of "what if we took one of our trademark funny little guys and just made one of them cunty as fuck"

They are using the same 2007 argument of us not getting new episodes of our favourite shows and actually expecting it to work?! Puh-lease, we were hardly getting it anyway! Every show is either cancelled or takes ages to churn out 8 episodes, so what's the difference? They've trained us in patience and dealing with disappointment already.

Always follow the money.

And the pictures at the bottom are from an old strike. For the moment, keep showing the studios how important their workers are: go to the movies, stream your favorite shows, share your solidarity.

I fully support the writers and actors currently on strike in America. Art is important and it’s sad hearing how some of these creators can be Emmy nominated but struggling to pay rent at the same time. It’s particularly enraging when you consider how much the executives and companies make.

I like that a by product of these discussions is how so many workers in other industries are now questioning their own companies. I genuinely believe that there are no truly altruistic and ethical CEOs. It’s been proven time and time again that if a person in power has the opportunity to screw over their workers: they absolutely will.

My brother just filled me in on the AI outrages of the Flash movie. I was already skipping it because of Ezra Miller but I had not heard about the level of fuckery WB sunk to.

Wow they really AI’d Chris AND George Reeves against the wishes of the late actors and without the permission of their families. And made an AI-generated Flash who looks and sounds like John Wesley Shipp but without his involvement.

I am honestly shocked that Shipp and the Reeves families haven’t sued WB into oblivion.

And that this isn’t all over the SAG strike info as exhibits A through Fuck You All in need of AI protections.

I’m so serious when I say I am more than ok with there being a total shutdown of hollywood. Maybe folks like me will finally get caught up on movies and shows they’ve been meaning to watch but felt overwhelmed. In the meantime let’s start a book club for fanfics, get together for more in-person fandom events that are so much more healthy than online discourse. Literally if we just had a convention of ST fanartists and fic writers, panels with theorists instead of actors, it would be the best thing ever.

I would kill for a Twilight Zone marathon

actually the best case scenario for the strikes (on top of "writers and performers are paid more than fairly for their incredibly valuable contributions to art and culture") is that we reach a point where movie theaters just start screening old films. i'm talking about golden age classics like the wizard of oz and casablanca or whatever but i'm also talking about cult classics or more recent movies that are just better in a theater and with an audience. set piece heavy action movies. fantasy films with sweeping orchestral scores. sing alongs of movie musicals. a twilight marathon. idk the possibilities are endless

I don't think enough people realize that new movies and shows will still be made. Not everything gets made by hollywood, that's the cultural imperialism talking. There are many many other countries who also create media and independent creators and small studios in the US who will also still be creating media.

Part of the reason they pay writers and actors so low is because of nepotism.

Rich people can afford to pay their children’s way into Hollywood. It forces out talented people that can’t afford that lifestyle. The amount of nepo babies with zero talent who went to business school and have found themselves in top positions at studios straight after graduating because their grandparents and parents worked in the film industry is outrageous. And they have been gutting Hollywood of any sort of creativity for the past twenty years by basing everything on a profits based business model that doesn’t allow for experimentation. It’s why nearly so many movies have been remakes, sequels, and based on existing IP.

Of course they don’t want to pay actors and writers well, they have never had to work for anything ever and can’t relate to having to work three jobs to try and achieve your goals and dreams. And they don’t WANT those people to be successful either. How else will they be able to place their fresh from college kids into top roles if those positions are already taken by outsiders?

The way Hollywood is talking you’d think they are the only people in the world who make movies and TV shows, they’re really, really not. At all. You can support movies/shows from other countries, indie movies/shows, all that stuff, that’s not crossing the picket line. There’s some really good stuff out there you know. Stuff that’s a lot more creative than Willy Wonka’s origin story or MCU movie 1284743736.

Most Reddit Comments Around The Use Of AI To Replace Actors And Screenwriters Seem To Look Like This

most reddit comments around the use of AI to replace actors and screenwriters seem to look like this and maybe i’m just a luddite and my mind isn’t open enough, but i genuinely don’t get how this is an exciting prospect or desirable future for people. the sole idea of art and cinema being like this makes me want to kill everyone in the room and then myself. i don’t… get it

The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike is so important in establishing rights and precedent for AI content. They are absolutely fighting for us. The possibility for AI abuse and misuse is at an all time high and there are already many who are pushing and using those tools for nefarious and unethical purposes. Actors and writers fighting against studios who want to use AI to steal their likeness and use it indefinitely without pay, or steal their writing style or use AI to write scripts and only hire people to edit them these are all things that can be applied outside of the entertainment industry as well. “My voice is my password” account protection is null and void. Face recognition soon will be as well. The amount of misinformation and lies that will be spread upon the public especially with the upcoming election will make the Facebook shit look like child’s play.

Every legal stand against the use of AI generated content creates precedent and shows law makers where public opinion stands.

I know AI generated art is cool to play with and seems harmless but it’s progressing so rapidly we do not have the technological abilities to contain it. Any filters for inappropriate content —and I don’t just mean porn but bomb recipes, nerve gas recipes can be gotten around relatively easily. There is no way to reliably detect original content from AI content. AI content is already beginning to fool search engines and results. Wikipedia articles and even news articles will soon be sourcing information and “first hand” evidence that’s completely fake. There are people trying to combat this, software that protects artists art from being data scraped, but it’s a temporary bandaid that will eventually be gotten around. Any encoding or software solution that would automatically “watermark” AI content could easily be removed. Elon Musk’s legal team has already tried to claim video evidence of him stating something legally binding, should be thrown out because the court can’t ascertain whether the video was real or AI generated. It puts all video and photographic evidence into real doubt and makes creating damning criminal evidence laughably easy.

This isn’t fear mongering. It’s just real fear. There’s already several experts and scientists trying to ring every alarm bell possible.

We need regulation and legislation immediately l mean like yesterday. And even with it, experts don’t know how enforceable it will be. But god damn had we better try. And anything we do try will be that much harder if a large portion of the entertainment industry is indiscriminately using this new technology to make content without having to pay people who inspired it or directly contributed to it’s existence. If we allow companies to profit of the use of AI we will all be pretty fucked. People have already lost their jobs. Entire industries may become obsolete and we should do everything in our ability to stop it.

Part of that means stop using the cool free AI apps and tools. It’s not actually free. And we will all end up paying for it the more you use it.

Hi! Wasn’t sure if you guys knew about this, but some WGA members have donated items to be auctioned off with the proceeds donated to the Entertainment Community Fund.

Bidding on these items is a fantastic way for fans and fandoms to get involved and raise even more funds for the ECF, and can be done here: https://wgaragesale.ggo.bid/bidding/package-browse.

Could y’all add a link to the WGA Garage Sale to the list of links that fans can donate to? Or make a post that contains the full list of fandoms that have items that could be bid on?

There’s a lot of memorabilia that various fandoms might be interested in (things like a varsity jacket from Veronica Mars; the Seinfeld Finale script signed by all of the series regulars; picket signs made by Conan O Brien, Lisa Hanawalt, Loren Bouchard, and Seth McFarlane; a Teamsters jacket signed by Lindsay Dougherty; Colin Robinson’s energy vampire notebook from What We Do In The Shadows; a Conor Roy for President hat from Succession…) plus other intangible gifts like personalized videos, zoom commentary sessions, meet and greets, or even a speech written by co-head of the WGAw Negotiations Committee Chris Keyser!

A more general overview, with a video introduction behind the items given by the writers themselves, can be found here: https://www.wgaragesale.org/auction-items.

Thank you so much!

Thanks for this resource! Linking below to the auction page. Check it out if you're interested in owning some super cool fandom memorabilia or rewards like meet and greets, personalized prizes and... John August helps you write your script?? Wow, maybe I'll have to check that one out.

We've considered putting together a comprehensive list of donation possibilities in the future, but that can easily lead to overwhelm and there are also a lot of pages run by other people that collect that info. Right now the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are really emphasizing the Entertainment Community Fund, hence the auction, since that fund also applies to non-SAG-AFTRA/WGA people who are also affected by the strike.

bob iger has objectively horrible takes about the wga and sag-aftra strikes, but it's honestly pretty fucking hilarious that even he's explicitly like 'the upside of this work stoppage is that it will force marvel studios to fucking stop for 5 g-ddamn seconds, they put out way too much content and have lost focus'

I want the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike to go beyond Hollywood. I want UPS workers to strike. I want teachers to strike. I want trash collectors to strike. I want every necessary worker to strike. I want the people of this country and beyond to finally stand up to billionaires and the awful treatment of workers. I want the people who do the work to get their share and I want the uber-rich to be taxed for almost all of their money. I want a goddamn revolution.

I have Chronic Put Something On My List And Never Watch It Syndrome. any one of my queues on any one of those streaming services is full of forgotten dreams

"What will you do without new shows" I haven't watched a mainstream television show as it released in years. I'm catching up on shows my parents liked in the 90s. I'm listening to fiction podcasts with 5 fans. I'm playing a video game the creators want you to pirate. I'm watching a minecraft roleplay. I may not know what I'm gonna do but I'm sure as hell not gonna be a fuckin scab babygirl.

Here's something I haven't seen before:

Here's Something I Haven't Seen Before:

A render of Millicent/Malenia's prosthesis that shows the interior of the cuff.

You can see the shoulder joint and the beginnings of a drive shaft that would operate the elbow and lower arm.

Yet again, the detail Fromsoft put into this game amazes me. This side of the model would never be visible in-game, but instead of leaving it solid gold or untextured they modeled actual mechanisms inside the shoulder.
