text reading: Late Night At The Corner Shop Bottles cluttering the counter at the corner shop This morning I cut my hair short and it felt like cutting the legs off of a lamb I stand trembling before the woman scanning my items and Fumbling and shaking I press the change into her hands and "Are you okay, sir?" and then I feel the blood spilling onto my hands again and is this what care feels like? That night I felt like both the lamb and the blade and I will carve my mind into flesh My Lord, I fear that I have killed someone tonight.

Driving down the highway, a million bodies are held under spotlights, bloodied and curled The empty roads surging with the cracking of ribs, the snapping of legs, wings, anything soft or easily broken splintering into a mess of whimpers and cries left mutilated on the curb Anything soft or scared lying still with the whispers of I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry But they only understand the humming of the engine and that the cold won't be so forgiving tonight Do you ever think that they believe in the afterlife? That they see the headlights approaching and think Thank God, maybe next time it'll be me behind the wheel.

i see you in the motorcycles that crash and who am i kidding? i dont see you, i never have i dont even know what you look like all i see is the mangled body they carry into the ambulance and i know that is you, that was you, that it'll be me i know it by the way their faces drop, that we are similar in the worst of ways i wade into the waters at the docks and hope there's still part of you left to mourn but there never is, and there never will be i sob next to the ruins of what once was you because this is the best i will get i cannot mourn people i did not know, hell, i can hardly mourn those i did, but i can see your blood shining in my reflection at the gas station and it makes me wish we were similar in the way we smile and not in the way we will always lose what we love.
