Colorful Image Colorization is an AI Neural Network software that is capable of colorizing black and white images using thousands of pictures as references.  Keep in mind that colorizing black and white footage using reference images is a hit-and-miss process, and the AI software has to (literally) guess which colors go where. As a consequence, the colorized footage might look quite surreal and psychedelic. [x]

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle…

The other day I realized N’s hair kind of looks like Zoroark’s mane, and then I made a little Beauty and the Beast story with the protag from Black and White. Beast N lives in a castle in Kalos with his servants, who have all been cursed into the bodies of inanimate object ghost Pokemon. ANYWAYS, I’ve been doing this instead of studying for my finals so I’m going to go retreat into a shadowy hole now. Hope you enjoy and see you on the flipside! -Kat

Oathkeeper, Oblivion and Keychains

A while ago I answered a question about Roxas’ Oathkeeper and Oblivion, but after the ReMIND trailer released, which showed Sora using Oathkeeper… I started to suspect something about the Keychains we see on Keyblades, and how Roxas can still wield Oathkeeper and Oblivion.

My current theory is, Keychains are physical manifestations of memories associated with a certain world or a certain person. A Keyblade is practically an extension of the heart, and within the heart are memories; the heart and memory being intimately linked with the Keyblade and its Keychain isn’t that far-fetched when you think about it. Keyblades change form and abilities depending on what Keychain is equipped, though we never see Sora being handed a Keychain or exchanging them out himself. Kingdom Hearts III introduced the mechanic of switching Keyblades, which…we know to be able to wield multiple, you’d need to have multiple hearts within you. And yes, during the majority of the game Sora does contain three other hearts — Roxas, Xion and Ventus — meaning he could probably wield up to four Keyblades at once, but we never even see him dual wield a single time in Kingdom Hearts III.

When switching between Keyblades, Sora’s actually calling out to his memories associated with a specific world and it manifests into a different token on his Keychain (and in turn, that alters the appearance and abilities of the Keyblade). That’s why in Kingdom Hearts II, when Sora wakes up, he’s left with nothing but Kairi’s charm. Because her charm is a physical item. During Chain of Memories, he lost memories to gain memories, and gained memories to lose memories. His head was constantly altered and played with; he forgot about the friends he had made and the worlds he had visited. The Keychains were changed into cards for him to use, because — like Marluxia said at the beginning — he, Donald and Goofy forgot every spell and every ability they ever learned. And later down the line, they started forgetting people and places too.

So, why am I bringing this up? Because I think I know what Roxas’ Oathkeeper and Oblivion are and how he can wield them at the same time Sora can.

As Sora’s Nobody, Roxas can wield the Kingdom Key, and as Sora’s replica, Xion can also wield the Kingdom Key. After Xion’s destruction, Ventus’s heart “awakened” within Roxas and provided him the ability to dual wield, with his second Kingdom Key being Xion’s. But, they end up transforming; one becomes Oathkeeper and the other becomes Oblivion, which is strange considering Sora — at this point in time — still has Kairi’s charm with him in the pod.

What I suspect happened is, when Roxas’ Keyblade transformed into Oathkeeper based on his promise to Xion, the token manifested as Kairi’s charm, because in his memories (and Sora’s memories) that was the only symbol of a promise that he knew of. Xion’s Keyblade, Roxas’ second Keyblade, transformed into Oblivion due to Roxas being the one responsible for her destruction. The token manifested as…Riku’s charm? The black crown. It’s origin has yet to be explained.

If Oblivion is the other half of Oathkeeper, but also it’s opposite (light and dark)…it can be seen as “Oathbreaker.” A symbol of a promise that has been broken, forgotten — a “passing memory” of a promise. Of what promise?

Oathkeeper, Oblivion And Keychains
Oathkeeper, Oblivion And Keychains
Oathkeeper, Oblivion And Keychains
Oathkeeper, Oblivion And Keychains
Oathkeeper, Oblivion And Keychains

The mind may forget, but the heart will forever remember — it has been etched. Memories that have been repressed or forgotten, the heart still remembers. It’s possible that Xion’s death stirred some of Sora’s repressed memories within Roxas, something that this newfound pain could relate to, which caused the Keychain on Xion’s Kingdom Key to take the form of the black crown token. And that in turn transformed it into Oblivion.

“My treasured best friend that I destroyed with this hand of mine.”

Roxas’ Oathkeeper and Oblivion cannot be wielded separately. They’re a duo. I assume that if he were to only have one of the Keyblades in the set, it would take the form of the Kingdom Key, his default Keychain (just like Sora). This means his Oathkeeper and Oblivion are separate from Sora’s, as Sora’s are both connected to physical items (Kairi’s charm and Riku’s charm).

With all that said…how do you suppose Oblivion’s token, the black crown, ended back up in Riku’s hands by the end of Kingdom Hearts II? He must’ve gotten it from someone…after a certain treasured friend was put to sleep, something to remember him by in case things were to go awry, causing Riku to forget? Reuniting with Riku in The World That Never Was rewarded you with Oblivion… Seems like Riku’s been carrying that around for a while… 👀

The Secret of the Old Mansion

The Secret Of The Old Mansion

Want to know what’s up with the old Mansion in Twilight Town? Well I figured it out! So sit back as I pull together a shit ton of red dots that hopefully come together to mean something.

First is the facts we know from kh2 and Days. We know Roxas formed as a Nobody in front of the Mansion. The wiki also says “all new human form nobodies form in Twilight Town- in front of the manor gates.” I know it’s a thing from Days but I don’t have time to find the exact place. We know the mansion is old… and abandoned. Not big shockers I know. We know there’s a legend of a ghost girl and in the data Twilight town that girl was Namine. We know Diz and Riku hid Sora there for a year while Namine tried to put together his memories. We know Diz used the computer in the mansion to put Roxas in a data Twilight Town. We know there are more pods than would be needed to heal Sora, Donald, and Goofy. And finally the biggest piece. We know from a description in KH2 that the pods “Have been used before”.

Now we get to start putting all these facts together! First thing is the “all human nobodies form in twilight town” is a lie. We know 1-8 formed in Radiant Garden now turned in Hallow Bastion. We see Roxas form in front of the Mansion so that’s at least true. But who does that leave to be “all human nobodies”? why Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, and Larxene of course! All four of them showing up at the same place from the past makes sense. It explains why Xigbar and also Xemnas know for a fact Luxord was from Daybreak even if Xigbar doesn’t remember him.

Now I theorized these four woke up in Twilight town months ago. Back then I assumed they were kept in the “used” pods from the fight with Brain countless years ago until now. But there’s something else in that basement. Something Diz uses to make the first Datascape we ever see in the series. There’s an old ass computer built into the walls of the basement, with enough memory storage to hold an entire Twilight town and virtual versions of the citizens. Diz was in hiding with Riku for a year they wouldn’t have had enough time to build the computer and the pods while also being in hiding. There just wasn’t enough time. Now I don’t doubt Diz made the Data Twilight. But he managed to do that with a preexisting computer that is also hooked up to the pods the four nobodies just happened to come out of.

Now everyone knows the Daybreak town in khux is a data world. That it was used to hold all the Dandelions that needed to survive the first keyblade war. Basically a digital bomb shelter while the keyblade graveyard was literally nuked by kingdom hearts. We know the original Daybreak town is underwater thanks to kh3. So where’s the physical computer that’s storing all of Data Daybreak?

The computer in the mysterious mansion is the mainframe for data Daybreak town. And Diz used the digital world making software to make the Digital Twilight town. The pods are there to reform the Dandelions out of Data. When Brain and Lauriam fought Lauriam’s group got sent out of the simulation early. A group that included Ventus. Ventus who was “found” by Xehanort as a keyblade wielding kid with amnesia.

Fast forward a few years and Xemnas is trying to make kingdom hearts with his organization. But he needs a keyblade wielder to do that. So where does he go? Back to where Xehanort got Ventus. Unfortunately he gets a keybladeless amnesiac lazy bastard who hates fighting. But hey there’s still three other people in those pods. Surely one of them will wake up with their keyblade. No, no they did not. So now Xemnas is just stuck with four more teenagers that grow up into rebellious young adults. And when he finally finally gets a keyblade wielder it’s an exact copy of Ventus. It’s like when there’s a two rare metal banner in khux and you get the first rare metal on your first draw. You then keep trying for the second rare metal and you spend all your gems. Only for on the last draw to give you a second copy of the rare metal you already have and not the second one you’ve been spending all your gems to try and get.

So yeah the Twilight town mansion is so old Master Ava was able to set up the Daybreak simulation in it’s computer. The pods were made for a mass exodus once the worlds were safe from the keyblade war. The rest of the Dandelions and possibly Brain are still in there. And I have a feeling someone knows the password to release all the other Dandelions. Meaning the next “war” might be a little bigger than 20 people.

kh theory: ava, subject x and namine are somehow related to each other.

( I want to apologize for any mistakes beforehand as english isn’t my first language )

so this theory is based on three points and they are:

ava is the traitor, but not in the way you think

subject x might be ava

how namine might be related to ava/subject x

Ava being the traitor:

after the kh3 epilogue, i got more convinced in this theory since the epilogue basically hinted that the main villains for the next saga would be MoM and the other lost masters.

in khx, the foretellers were led to believe that following the roles and rules MoM assigned them was the only way to avoid the imminent keyblade war and the end of the world, but little did they know their blind trust in MoM made it easy to get manipulated by him and the same roles that were supposed to prevent the war only planted seeds of doubts and uncertainty in them and their unions. how? the roles conflicted with each other. and of course their inability to be independent from their master had a factor, but first talking about each master and their role would make it easier to explain :

ira: making ira the leader because he was the one who expressed his desire to stop the war and he was the most determined out of the 5 masters would be the logical choice to anyone, but ira was so obsessed about the book and what it had foretold that he became wary of every incident that happened so naturally he would notice a page was missing.

aced: MoM assigned the role of being ira’s right hand to aced despite how it was apparent to MoM that aced had an inferiority complex when it came to ira and when MoM told him that ira would be the leader, aced expressed his desire for the role as he thought h was more worthy of that role. so when MoM told him he could take ira’s place as the leader if he, aced, thought ira was unreliable knowing full well aced would seize the first chance that come his way which would make him look suspicious and this was a deliberate set up by MoM to frame him as the traitor.

invi: her role was to only to observe the other four and stay as neutral as possible while mediating between them. however, her trust in ira as their leader, since he replaced MoM, led her to side with him and  informing him about what the others were planning or doing so naturally it would rise dispute.

gula: he was given the lost page and the task to look for a traitor that might not even exist since the content of the page was ambiguous and could have been another set up by MoM to make them doubt each other more, and he was basically told to keep it a secret and not to trust anyone but himself. this was another set up because if gula trusted his comrades enough to tell them about the traitor beforehand a lot of stuffs might have prevented.

ava: her role was simple, to train the dandelions and send them off before the war and she was supposed to look after them in the other world and avoid getting involved in any conflict. and she did as she was told  without any problem, but she couldn’t stand still and let the war happens so she went off to look for MoM to stop the war.

I wouldn’t want to delve too much into it, but basically the roles they were given were set in a way that would rise doubts among them. now as i said, ava went off to look for MoM and luxu so when she finally found out the truth about luxu and MoM’s intentions of watching how the events played rather than actually find a solution ( + his plan to summon the true kingdom hearts according to the secret report 13 ) she was enraged and attacked luxu so how does this link her to being the traitor? well…. the lines from the lost page

“Unable to permit disharmony, you will be disappointed by fate”

Unable to permit disharmony > ava not wanting the war happen / ava looking for a way to break the dispute between them.

you will be disappointed by fate > finding out MoM true intentions and how he never cared to end the war / finding out this whole fiasco was set up by MoM himself in order to summon the true kingdom hearts.

in a sense, ava did deviate from her role by leaving the dandelions behind and looking for luxu.

“then with that one strike, a bell will toll for the final battle”

and attacking him thus starting the very war she tried to prevent. but this was because MoM intended for her to be the //traitor// all along. perhaps the reason why she wasn’t in the epilogue was because of this very reason, as xigbar said “ava fulfilled her role” aka being the traitor and going against MoM’s rules and plans; trying to stop him.

now according to the secret report 13; MoM true intentions is to summon the true kingdom hearts and starting another keyblade war

‘‘now at least the Keyblade War has begun, and Kingdom Hearts will open—a true and complete Kingdom Hearts, born of the clash between darkness and light.’’

ava did find out about this and since she is betraying MoM by going against his plans and try to stop him, which i assume he predicated, she ends up being the traitor. and the epilogue supported this even more with how xigbar acted and worded himself.

image

in the jp version, xigbar says “ava didnt show up/isnt here, as expected” more like he never expected her to be with them in the first place. and when he said the told ava about his missons he was referring to the events happened that occurred in these two scenes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAJZ7nJANmA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhXT7Ju9QZ4

also if you noticed, ava’s piece wasn’t among the chess pieces that appeared at the end of the epilogue an was replaced by another one.

image

furthermore the chess piece that replaces ava’s has a symbols that is awfully similar to the one on the BoP and you also find the same symbol in yen sid study in kh3

image

Subject x and ava:

this part might end up get debunked or proved in the upcoming kh games or khux updates as we know so little about subject x to base our assumption on who she might be and all the clues we got from kh3 are ambiguous and vague; perhaps she could be skuld, ava or none of them. however for the sake of this theory let’s go with the assumption subject x = ava.

in khx backcover, gula mentioned a clue from the lost page on who the traitor could be and it was “ the one who bears the sigil” and assuming by the sigil it meant an ‘X’ then subject x could be ava

subject x said the line “may my heart be my guisiding key” in secret report 1 and 3 the only characters i know of who said the line “may your heart be your guiding key’ were MoM and the lost masters. and correct me if im wrong, but skuld has yet to say this line and since we are stuck between her and ava this line makes me lean more towards ava being subject x

the fact xigbar was the one who freed subject x from her cell and the way xigbar reacted to ava’s absence imply he knew she wouldn’t be there or rather couldn’t be there because other than being the traitor, she also could be subject x who lost her memories

namine and subject x/ava:

so far we haven’t gotten any proper explanation of namine’s origin and her power. we dont even know how she got her name when she was supposedly born without any memories just like roxas, yet when the org found her they didn’t make her join them or did the whole x naming thingy they did with the rest. we dont even know who exactly found her and why she was in castle oblivion in the first place. and despite being only 23 days old, she was able to tell she was lonely for a long time which meant she had a complete heart by the time sora came to castle oblivion while roxas, who was born as the same time as her, took much longer than her to be able to discern his own emotions even though he had ventus’s heart inside of him. not to mention her ability to manipulate memories, project worlds in addition to being able to manipulate the datascape. and kh33 didn’t help with this and only added more mysterious to namine’s origin despite he brief appearance in the game. she was able to talk to terra twice the first was in  0.2 and the second in kh3. furthermore, in the jp version she said something among the line of “talking to terra could change fate/destiny” as if she knew sora would go back in time. all this can’t just be explained by saying she is the nobody of kairi who is a princess of heart or the way she born. unless she was related to ava and the book of prophecies.

first let’s begin with the similarities between ava and namine:

both namine ( in com where she took the apparence of kairi ) and ava ( as seen in this this ) can shapeshift

both can also change the appearance  of stuffs around them and objects as well  ( namine in kh2 when she talked to roxas for the third time and ava in this )

both have a similar body language and a habit of clasping their hands together

the edge of ava’s keyblade is shaped as waves and namine’s name means waves

ava might have the ability to manipulate memories like namine and it has been implied she was the one who erased the dandelions memories

assuming ava = subject x and since xigbar took her out of the prison he might have named her as well whence where the name namine came from

subject x felt lonely and isolated and namine had the same feelings in com but the way she worded herself was as if she was alone longer than just 23 days

now how is namine related to subject x other than assuming subject x is ava? the answer is within axel and saix action in days and thanks to kh3 we know why these two joined the organization in the first place.

axel could have let namine go not ona whim but on purpose

this scene never made sense to me; i mean we know why saix brought up xion in order to convince axel, but namine?? i doubt saix would know axel was somehow fond of namine especially since he never saw these two interact and the way axel was muttering to himself indicated he was interested in knowing something about namine unless he knew something

image

not to mention the way xigbar reacted towards saix saying namine was still missing, at first i thought he was just pushing up saix buttons. however, if we link xigbar to subject x and him probably knowing about saix and axel relationship with her in additon to the fact xigbar being luxu and all f his actions has been ambiguous for a reason makes me wonder….

image

and the namine files we have yet to see it get revealed and why was axel looking up these files in the first place

the scene always gets me.

the fact that they specifically chose to emphasize sora and kairi reaching for each other’s hand to symbolize the fact that they can never really be together, that no matter what they do, they always end up being separated, is really powerful to me.

and right after that, right after seeing kairi being taken away, sora actually breaks down. true he was heartbroken because all his other friends disappeared too. but the last person he sees and the first he mentions when talking to riku is kairi.

The Master of Masters

The Re:Mind trailer convinced me that there IS an alternate scenario after Riku’s sacrifice that went differently than the one we saw. Props to Sleeping Realm for calling that one right on the friggin dot, btw. Bravo.

I believe it’ll end with Riku’s true death, and that ties in with my Master of Masters theory.

The Master watches Master Xehanort with the Gazing Eye at the tip of No Name. Of all the keyblades that hold Gazing Eyes, Vanitas’s Void Gear is the only one that contains two located in the shaft.

The Master Of Masters

If one eye sees, the Master would still need the other eye to see what it was seeing. Even though he implies that it’s literally his eye when he gives No Name to Luxu, it’s not really, it’s just one of the eyes from his keyblade.

Also on that topic, there is a shot of Sora in the KH3 intro I find super duper weird.

The Master Of Masters

The pupil in Soras left eye is a slit for a moment, like the Gazing Eye. It’s just an illusion as a result of reflected light in his eye, but you can bet its intentional.

The Master’s study is also full of gears, which seems like it might be too obvious but hey, there it is.

The Master Of Masters
The Master Of Masters

The Unversed symbol is similar to that of the Dream Eaters, and I think ties into my theory that Vanitas’s heart contains Sora’s darkness and Riku’s darkness also. Which is why it’s divided in three. The Master created the Chirithy, the very first Dream Eaters.

The only Keyblade Sora has ever been able to wield that holds a Gazing Eye is End of Pain. Both he and Riku can wield it in DDD.

The Master Of Masters

You can bet your butthole End of Pain represents Vanitas. All he wants, his sole driving purpose, is to end his existence of pain. This keyblade is a clue to Vanitas’s redemption, and it lies with Sora and Riku. But Sora has to accept Vanitas for what he is. Darkness. It’s shown in the Keyblade Graveyard that Sora doesnt understand this yet, since he tries to convince Vanitas to stand with the light. And while Ventus accepts Vanitas’s choice, Sora does not. This is something Riku understands though, he figured it out in DDD: “I know the way. Consume the darkness, return it to light.”

The Master Of Masters
The Master Of Masters
The Master Of Masters

It’s not like Vanitas died here. His replica body was destroyed yes. But his heart, I assume, went back to the darkness. And if Sora was dragged down to the darkest abyss, like YMX warned him, and that’s where he is in the secret ending, Vanitas will be there, right beside him.

In Kairi’s grandmothers story, its stated that one day, a door to the innermost darkness will open, and the true light will return. Mickey tells Sora in his first dive to the heart that he is the one that will open the door. As he gets closer to Riku, he gets closer to Vanitas, but this is how it must be, its Sora’s destiny to reunite with him. This is what the last passage of Destati is referring to.

Eh? What? You do not want it!?

Still it belongs to you

What you have lost

Will become one!

The story also states the the return of the true light will connect all the worlds once again.

When Ansem the Wise talks to Riku about the many hearts connected to Sora’s in DDD, he says:

The Master Of Masters

“They can be saved.” But only if Sora follows his heart.

I think Anti Black Coat was a Nightmare of Vanitas before his face changed, and could even have been the Master himself, pushing Riku to become stronger. Since the Master created Chirithy, Riku’s Dream Eater powers are definitely related to him as well.

So after Riku’s true death, Sora’s grief and rage allow darkness to enter his heart, and he and Vanitas become one. Sora becomes the being he was meant to be, his heart finally complete. This is the origin of Rage Form, and the meaning behind the segment of the final battle when Xehanort steals Sora’s light, forcing him into Rage Form, and Sora must attack him to regain his light.

But uniting with Sora does not end Vanitas’s pain, because he can feel Sora’s immense pain from losing Riku. Sora-Vanitas realizes he screwed up royally, and hatches a crazy elaborate plan to fix it. He travels back in time to the Age of Fairy Tales. He’s able to do so because a past version of himself exists there: Ventus. He then sets his plan in motion and vanishes, I think, to the Realm of Darkness, for a century (or however long the timeframe is between Union X and when Xehanort was given No Name).

I assume this is where the Coda becomes relevant, jumping through the timeline through dreams and darkness, sleep and death, like how the Coda tells one to skip ahead to the ending of a piece of music, and can be very complex. The time travel rules of KH state that once you arrive in the past, you have to wait for time to pass naturally, so this shouldn’t be possible. Time doesnt seem to work the same way in dreams however, and it definitely doesnt work the same way in the Realm of Darkness. Scala Ad Caelum is also most likely a huge part of this, since Xehanort said it was the nexus of all worlds, a place where all of his selves through time could be one.

He writes the Book of Prophecies based on what he already experienced in his past, but tells Luxu it was because he succeeded in his role. He does this to give Luxu confidence in himself for a seemingly impossible task, and apparently it worked. Luxu passing the No Name to Xehanort was still vital however, because it allows the Master to see what he wasnt previously aware of. He can now see Xehanort’s moves, and make counter moves. Like a chess game.

Also, when he wrote the final passage, when he said that the light would expire, he was literally talking about Riku.

By the time the Epilogue happens, when Luxu is talking with the Foretellers, he definitely knows that Sora is their Master as a teenager. And he’s seen the results of Sora and Riku’s bond for himself. They changed the future through their love for each other, which should be impossible. You cannot change events that have already happened. But they did. When they are revived after Riku’s sacrifice Xigbar even says “Gotta make sure you’re not blundering your way toward a second failure.” He’s not talking about the failure we had just witnessed.

The Master’s favourite phrase, “May your heart be your guiding key”, comes from Sora hearing Yen Sid say it, and he adopted it as his motto, his Ninja Way lol.

The traitor mentioned in the Lost Page is the Master himself. Xemnas tells Sora in DDD “As your flesh bears the sigil, so your name shall be known as that… of a recusant.” He oddly says Soras FLESH bears the sigil, even though it’s merely emblazoned on his shirt. Gula deduced in Back Cover that whomever strays from their role must be the traitor. Sora is the traitor. He strayed from his role, because he failed to protect Riku like Aqua told him to. “You make sure to stay with him, and keep him safe. That’s your job Sora.”

He let the light die.

The Black Box contains the Master’s heart, which is Sora’s complete heart, and also most likely, his soul. In one of the Secret Reports, Ienzo writes that the hearts within Sora’s are each contained within their own “boxes”, and this is mentioned intentionally.

He intends to give the box to Riku. He’s been waiting for countless years to save Riku’s life, and literally give him his heart. This is the end of pain.

So romantic I’m gonna die.

Kingdom Hearts 3: Olympus and Pandora’s Box

More Symbolic of the Xehanort Saga Than You Think

Okay, I know that KH3 is… what… almost 5 months old at this point? And recently I’ve been thinking about something recently. I know it’s probably been talked about a thousand times already, but I just started thinking about it.

Now as you know, in Kingdom Hearts 3 you don’t necessarily HAVE to go back to all the worlds if you don’t want to. Sure, you might go back if you want to level or just mess around. Or maybe you’re looking for the Lucky Emblems so you can get the secret ending. Maybe you’re even going back to do the photo quests that the moogles will give. It doesn’t matter. They give you the ability to go back, but you’re not required.

That being said, something that happened in one world - specifically the FIRST world - has been bugging me. And until now I never really put two and two together quite like this.

In the world of Olympus, Maleficent and Pete are looking for that world’s “black box” - if you paid attention to Re:Coded and/or Dream Drop Distance, you know what this is. Anyway, Hades, almost confused, thinks that they’re talking about Pandora’s Box. He sends them that way. They find the box, but it’s not what Maleficent wants and they just leave it there. Out in the open. By the time we come across the area, mind you, the box is gone.

But that’s it. End of that story. Move on to the next world, only to maybe come back to get Lucky Emblems or pictures. But that’s it, we don’t really get more of a continuation of the story.

So why would Nomura-sensei include that? Specifically why would they include the infamous Greek box of horrors, illnesses and evils but do nothing with it? Let alone near the end of your adventure to that world?

If you’ll give me some of your time, I believe I’ll be able to tell you why.

Now, anyone who knows their Greek myths (and even for some who don’t really), the legend of Pandora’s Box (originally Jar) is very well-known. To sum it up, the gods created Pandora and made her extremely curious (as a sort of revenge to humanity). Then they gave her a jar (later translations changed it to a box) and told her never to open it ever. She became Prometheus’s sister-in-law (remember him? The one who gave man fire?). Eventually her curiosity got the better of her and she opened the jar. All of the evils, illnesses, disasters and horrible spirits left the jar before she could close it. This left only Hope within (as Zeus had intended).

So why include the small detail?

Supposedly a long time ago (though, we’re getting more information that it wasn’t THAT long ago) there was the legend of the X-Blade (read: kai or key) the (original) Keyblade War. Involved with the war was the 13 Darknesses and 7 lights. It destroyed nearly all of those who would wield the key-based weapon, along side most of humanity. The X-Blade was eventually destroyed. Humanity was dispersed among the worlds, hopefully to forget what had happened (though some still… “remembered” to a degree).

As time passed, one man - Xehanort - became curious. He wanted to know more about the Keyblade War and the legendary X-Blade. The more he learned, the more obsessed and darker he grew. He studied and studied, eventually being able to wield a Keyblade himself, but he wanted more. Upon learning what needed to be done, Xehanort made a plan. So he went and tried (sometimes succeeding) to corrupt people to join him in creating the 13 Darknesses.

As he went about the worlds, chaos, darkness and evil would enter each, causing mayhem and destruction wherever he would go. Heartless, Unversed and Nobodies started to make their way between worlds, making their paths available for each to follow and move to their next world to invade.

He wanted to recreate the war. With darkness reigning over the worlds, he knew he would eventually be able to see it once again. It would only be a matter of time before chaos would rule over all. (Organization 13 anyone?)

However, there was the one thing that he forgot as his curiosity consumed him. For within the legend, within the chaos that he wanted so much, there was one thing he missed.

Hope.

For the worlds, the 7 Lights would be the hope to end the war before it started. And if it did start, to keep the war and the casualties to a minimum. They would be there to bring light and hope back to the worlds. (Aqua, Ventus, Terra, Lea/Axel, Kairi, Sora, Riku)

TL;DR?

The nod to Pandora’s Box/Jar in Olympus was acknowledging the connection between the Greek myth of Pandora’s curiosity releasing evils onto the land, Xehanort’s curiosity bringing chaos and darkness into the worlds and how hope - and light - still remains.
