My Theory Of Adhd Management Is That In Order To Focus There Are 4 Things That Need To Be Sufficiently

My theory of adhd management is that in order to focus there are 4 things that need to be sufficiently occupied:

Eyes

Ears

Hands (or body)

Brain

And if you aren’t occupying them enough or there’s too many things demanding the use of one, it’ll start to wreck havoc on your ability to do things.

So for example, listening to a podcast. This occupies your ears and brain as you focus on both listening and processing what you hear, but it leaves your hands and eyes completely without anything to do. If you tried to sit down and just listen to a podcast by itself you’d probably get unbearably bored and stop doing it.

But if you pair that activity with something that uses your hands and eyes, like a craft, household chore, or commute, suddenly you’re fully plugged in and can in fact focus better on both tasks than you could if you tried doing them separately.

It’s also why you can’t listen to a podcast while doing homework; you’re trying to use your brain for two different tasks. To occupy your ears while doing homework (which is already using eyes, brain, and hands) you need something for your ears that doesn’t require your brain: music. Specifically music that doesn’t use too much brain power, which is why some people prefer instrumentals or songs in other languages.

Hyperfixation and sensory overload change this by moving the threshold for how much sensory input you need to be able to function. If I’m extremely focused on a craft project (eyes, hands, brain) I might not even need something for my ears; my interest in the project makes up for it. If i’ve had a very overwhelming day, trying to listen to an audiobook while I do some stretches could be too much to process. My brain needs a break.

Video games, which pretty much universally occupy all 4 areas, are basically instant, easy focus wrapped up in a neat little bow. No wonder adhd-havers tend to love them.

If you’re struggling with a task, try looking at which areas it occupies and which are left unattended. Then try to find something enjoyable to fill those gaps, and see if that helps.

I love this development!

To answer the question:

Puss in Boots is original a German Fairytale written down in the collection of the Grimm Brothers. (There seem to be documents that the tale could also be original from France)

In german it is called:

„Der gestiefelte Kater“

Der is the male article -> the

gestiefelte is an adjective which describes the following noun as somebody/something that wears boots

Kater means Tomcat.

The Tale is about 3 millers sons after the dead of their Father.

The oldest gets the mill.

The middle one gets the donkey

The youngest gets the cat.

The cat can surprisingly speak and tells to the youngest, that if he buys him boots he will help him. The youngest says yes and in the end the cat does a lot of things that end in the youngest marrying the princess and being King.

The one thing I can not explain is why puss was choose instead of cat or Tomcat in the English translation.

I hope this answer the question for all of you reading the post and starting to question the name. (Because you probably only know this character from the Shrek universe)

Why is his name Puss in Boots? It's like calling a rooster wearing socks Cock in Socks

ᰔ miscommunication prompts!

hidden feelings: one character overhears the other confessing they have feelings for someone, not realizing it’s about them. hurt and convinced they don’t stand a chance, they start to distance themselves, only to discover the truth when the other directly confesses.

misplaced blame: one character is upset, thinking the other let them down during a critical moment, unaware of the real reason behind their actions. after a heated argument, the truth is revealed, and they share a vulnerable moment, realizing they were never abandoned.

unspoken fear: one character misunderstands the other’s hesitation as rejection, not knowing it stems from personal insecurities. when the truth is revealed, they tenderly reassure them, breaking down walls together in a quiet, emotional moment.

misread actions: one character thinks the other is purposely avoiding them, when in reality, they’ve been planning a surprise. after days of miscommunication, the truth is revealed, and the surprise is met with happy tears and a relieved embrace.

priorities: one character believes the other is prioritizing someone else over them, feeling hurt and neglected. after a heartfelt confrontation, the other explains their actions, and they find comfort in understanding their connection remains just as strong.

forgotting promises: one character feels disappointed, thinking the other forgot an important promise they made, only to discover the other has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen. they end up overwhelmed with gratitude and affection.

missed opportunity: one character plans to confess their feelings but sees the other smiling with someone else, assuming they’ve already moved on. later, they learn their assumptions were wrong when the other gently confesses they’ve been waiting for them all along.

Coming in late on Pack Dynamics day for @stmarchmm

Pack Omega Steve Harrington is so important to me.

Like, he doesn't really have a pack with his family, which is both small and distant, and never formed anything but a preliminary bond with anyone besides Tommy and Carol. He gets really close to pack with Nancy and Johnathan, but its cut off swiftly and abruptly when Nancy dumps him and turns to Johnathan.

Then all of a sudden he's got one pup, and then three, and suddenly he's Pack Omega to seven 10-13 year olds. They raz him and bully him, but they also look up to him and seek him for comfort. They don't always listen to him, but they know that he's always going to keep them safe.

Robin very quickly becomes Steve's alpha in every way but romantic, but she never quite steps into the role of Pack Alpha. She's got a stable pack at home and never feels the need to try and look over the kids in quite the same way Steve does, even if she does love them and look out for them.

When the kids start highschool, suddenly the boys aren't around as much. Max, El, and Erica still spend most weekends and after school at his house in his big living room nest when they don't have their own extracurriculars, but the boys start coming around less and less. The Hellfire Club has scooped them up and taken all their time, and it starts to take its toll on Steve.

He's been left behind and rejected so many times that his body is on a hair-trigger, reacting hard and fast to the slightest hint of abandonment. It starts with a generally lower mood but quickly descends into something bordering in rejection sickness. Every time the boys brush him off for Hellfire or get in his car only to talk on and on about how cool Eddie Munson is and how much they want him to hang out that day, Steve sinks a little deeper.

El, who is also extremely sensitive to pack bonds, pretty much glued herself to Steve's side once he started feeling unwell. Unfortunately, she's very easily influenced by other people's hormones and eventually becomes unwell herself.

Once that happens, it's Hopper who has to step in. He gets Max and Erica to tell him what the hell is going on and Hopper takes that all to mean that it's all actually Eddie Munson's fault. He rolls up to Hawkin's High on Hellfire night in his cruiser, barges in, drags the kids out and squishes them all into the back seat, and then goes back to pull a very confused Eddie out as well.

He makes everyone apologize and make nice, especially Eddie who, again, is so very confused by everything that is happening.

But hey, he's not one to pass up a perfectly good opportunity, and he's always kind of had a thing for Steve. Maybe a very heartfelt, prolonged (like maybe a couple of months) elaborate apology is a good way to start a courting.

cw: substance abuse, addiction, stobin drugging-related PTSD I'm home sick and found this fully written in my drafts? from march?? apparently?

Steve and Robin, who make jokes about that time we did LSD like it's a funny anecdote to the point where no one knows the actual context of the situation.

(Dustin and Erica would know, if Steve and Robin weren't still self aware enough to decidedly not make jokes about it where those two can hear)

(But still.)

Steve and Robin, who only trust a drink if it comes from the other, who trade off sober duties even if someone else is already designated driver because it's not the same as making sure one of them always has their wits about them.

Steve and Robin who, in the very immediate aftermath of Starcourt, develop two drastically different relationships with substances-- Robin who is detrimentally afraid of the glass of wine her parents sometimes offer her on special occasions versus Steve who can and will try everything available to him just to prove again and again that it was never going to kill him even if he felt like he was dying at the time.

They self destruct in equal but opposite ways for the rest of that first summer before the looking out for each other starts, before the coping via humor starts, before the decision to just call it LSD Steve because if I have to try and process that it was something that I can't read and learn about on top of everything else--

It's not like it ever leaves them though, this way that this specific trauma has fucked them up.

(It's not like Dustin and Erica don't notice, no matter how hard their friends try to hide it.)

It's not like there's anything they can do about it when Steve relapses and goes on a bender that has him losing a whole day of time and waking up to Robin checking his heart rate or when Robin thinks she's in a good enough headspace to do shots with their friends and ends up on the floor of another dirty bathroom with Steve holding her hair back, less from the booze and more from all the hyperventilating, the tears that won't stop until long after she's sober.

(It's not like people don't notice when Robin's jokes about their little LSD trip get pointed on nights Steve's had a bit too much, or how Steve cuts her off from making those jokes at all on nights her hands can't steady around a plastic cup; it's not like they could hide anything from people like this, who hunt monsters and solve mysteries and swallow horrors like the smoothest of whiskeys.)

(It's not like Dustin hasn't gone to Eddie when he gets worried, even if he never spills the whole story. It's not like Erica hasn't asked Nancy unsubtle questions about how to help people with dependency issues. It's not like Eddie and Nancy haven't spoken their own concerns into the quiet dark of night over crackling phone lines where no one else can hear.)

There are nights like this and they happen like clockwork, nights in the little house in Indy for which only two of them are technically on the lease but four and then six and sometimes a whole gaggle of high schoolers still pass through like transients every weekend.

There are nights like this, when the youngest of their ranks aren't around and the booze flows freely and they're out on the porch watching the sun set late with the lift and pull of summertime, when a conversation goes sour with a comment that betrays something that has yet to be spoken aloud.

Steve and Robin.

Steve and Robin who have clearly been through something the rest of them aren't privy to; Steve and Robin who mention it offhandedly without any proper details; Steve and Robin who are hurting right there in front of them and how are they supposed to help how are any of them supposed to--

"Okay, that's it--"

"Nance..."

It's Eddie's warning tone but it's also Jonathan giving her that look from where he's perched on the porch rail and it's also the sudden tension in Robin's brow and confusion in Argyle's and something painfully close to resignation in Steve's.

But this is Nancy Wheeler. It's a miracle she's let them go on like this for as long as she already has.

"No, I'm over the secrets," she shakes her head once, definitive, and levels her gaze on those twin hearts curled together on the porch swing. "You two are going to tell us what happened to you-- who hurt you-- and we're going to fucking fix it."

Steve and Robin, who lean impossibly closer into each other's space.

Steve and Robin, looking ready to bolt.

Steve and Robin, who don't look hopeful for any sort of fixing.

But it's not like it was going to stay unspoken forever.

It would be even funnier with the headcanon that Steve has an Italian family and speaks Italian.

He is confused to why she said it to him. Then he is confused why she speaks italian. Also he ask himself if she knows he speaks italian as well, maybe that this is the reason why she speaks it around him.

Robin will be mortified, because she did not know that he speaks Italian. Steve in his sometimes nonchalant not thinking too much ways, never gave away that he understood her and just someday either speaks to her in Italian or she hears him speaking to his family. Maybe she finds Italian books (like a cookbook) and starts to question a lot of interactions they both had.

In the end she loves it, because they can speak ill of customers or maybe a little bit of the party right in front of these persons. There can also be a moment where she is like "Of course, my Dingus speaks Italian he is my soulmate, my other half. The one person that understands me the best." (Maybe she starts thinking to teach him more languages) That would also be a really good answer from her when somebody asks why Steve can speak Italian (like the Party has never heard him speak it before). She is just like "He is my Soulmate of course he speaks Italian" If you want more you can also imagine Dustin taking the answer literally and fears that the upside down gave them superpowers (that this would also explain why they are so weirdly codependent in his eyes)

Okay something that I think should really be added to Robin is her knowledge of other languages.

You’re telling me this snarky ass ice cream server hasn’t cussed out a customer in their face in Italian?

She keeps saying “Mortacci tua” to Steve each time it comes up that Steve has lost several fights. He just stares at her funny when she doesn’t elaborate.

(The phrase implies that Steve has weak ancestors)

Robin stubs her toe “ZUT!”

(An exclamation like Damn!)

A attractive girl walks out of Family Video and once the door shuts Robin calls out “Fica!” Steve again just looks at her funny.

(Means Cunt but is used like a crude way of calling a woman hot)

When Steve is again harassed into driving around town, Robin calls him a “chupamedias”.

(Suck up/ bootlicker)

Thank you for coming to my quadrilingual Robin Ted Talk.

No, I don’t count pig Latin.
