If Staff Could Get Their Heads Out Of Their Asses For Two Seconds And Actually See The Feedback They’ve

If staff could get their heads out of their asses for two seconds and actually see the feedback they’ve been getting from their content creators for years, that would be great.

The saddest thing about this Post+ shit show is that while they’re trying to get us to monetize our creations so they can take their cut of the pie, all we actually want is for them to fix simple things like the search function, or posts not showing up on dashboards!

Many CCs have been clinging to this dying cesspool of a site for years, getting less than 10% of the notes we used to, and capitalist bullshit like this will be the final straw for many us. I mean, we were happy with reblogs, let alone money ffs.

Way to completely miss your target audience, staff.

18 year old Tania Harris was shot twice by police in Robbinsdale, MN yesterday. Police were called to the scene to protect her from a potential fight and are claiming she had a knife but her mother and witnesses are saying that her mother had taken the knife from her before police shot her.

Tania was cuffed and put in the back of the squad car after being shot.

She survived the shooting and is in stable condition.

The local activists are already planning actions around supporting her.

This works for creators in general: artists, writers, composers... Thank you for helping people like us get motivated and keep creating things.

⌨ on the topic of writer’s block.

oh, how daring that little cursor is. blinking and blinking in an endless loop, taunting you with plot threads left unanswered. a perfect example of personification, laughing in the face of your hopelessness.

we’ve all dealt with this struggle, us writers. as someone who’s been consuming and creating literature since i could sit upright, i’ve faced the great wall of ennui multiple times on my creative journey, and through my experience i’ve learned how to break it down brick by brick.

in summation, the process of writing can be broken down into two main categories: inspiration and motivation. suffice to say, writer’s block is the lack of either or both of those two things. here, i’ll provide you with my own methods of dealing with this issue, and hopefully they’ll be useful to you!

— if you lack INSPIRATION.

so, you’ve sat down at your computer, opened a fresh document. it’s early afternoon and you’re finally in the mood to write. your typing fingers would be blazing, and you would be at far past 10,000 words by now, if you only knew what to write and how to write it…

read. “yeah, great job, captain obvious,” you say. “never heard that before.” but truly, reading is the best way to find that lost spark. it doesn’t necessarily have to be a piece of traditionally published fiction; in fact, the majority of the time i find fanfiction to be much more useful in this sort of scenario, for multiple reasons (such as work being by a fellow aspiring writer like yourself, driven only by passion and not monetary gain.) read for pleasure or enjoyment, yes, but try to read with an observational eye. what emotions did they evoke here? how was word choice used? what parts did you like? which parts did you dislike, and how could they have improved on that? by reading, you immerse yourself in someone else’s head instead of the one you’ve been stuck in, your own. look at your craft in a different light. see how others are doing.

listen to music. you most likely already enjoy singing along to songs or even playing an instrument of your own, so why not factor that into writing? music is truly amazing as it evokes emotions in a different way than putting pen on paper. soaring notes convey grandness. the minor key is eerie, haunting. it sets the mood and tone, telling a story without explicitly telling a story. i’m sure you’ve stared out a car window with a song playing, melodramatically imagining yourself in a video. capture that same energy and put it into your writing. (you can also study the artist’s lyricism, using the same methodology as listed above!)

watch a movie. no, not a tv show, you can’t put writing off for more than a couple hours, lest you neglect it entirely! movies combine all aspects of creative mediums, from visual artistry to beautiful scores to most importantly, good writing. let yourself get carried away in the story, and find inspiration from the experience. i recommend specifically ghibli movies; the way entire universes are constructed is something to be marveled at, and i’m sure you can get at least a little bit from all the fantastical elements.

exercise. i know, i know. i don’t like doing it either. but getting blood flowing can really help to clear your brain, and i get some of my best ideas from that after-workout haze when i’m just lying on the floor. it helps me think clearer and find that exact word phrase i was looking for!

— if you lack MOTIVATION.

this idea’s been sitting with you for a while. festering, growing, thriving in your headspace. but no matter how many times you’ve shifted around with your blanket and pillows trying to get into a comfortable position, no matter how many times you’ve aimlessly opened tabs just to close them, you just don’t have it in you to write, goddammit.

switch to a different environment. if you write at a desk, all professional and aesthetically set up, go to your couch. if you write bundled up in bed, shed your blankets and sit on the floor. the stairs, the kitchen table, the corner, a cafe, your car. anywhere than the place you usually write. this puts you out of your comfort zone and essentially tricks your brain into getting out of its slump and stupor.

talk to a fellow writer. let them bounce ideas off you. commiserate over various toils and troubles. they’re in the same boat as you are, so learn from them, and they’ll learn something from you as well. you don’t necessarily even have to talk about writing; tell a story from your childhood, something funny that happened this month, a video you’d like to recommend. conversation stimulates the brain, and it’s healthy for both parties.

get into a daily habit. set a goal for yourself every single day. it could be 1000 words, it could be a single sentence. just put words down, no matter how terrible. something that’s helped me is the most dangerous writing app, which all but forces you to write non-stop for 5 minutes. if you pause, it deletes it all, which should be motivation enough. over time, you won’t need this app or any app anymore, the only thing fueling you being your own desire to create something.

remind yourself of why you write. do you have eager readers, patiently waiting for the next chapter of your work? has your dream always been to publish your own novel? do you just do it simply because you want to have fun? whatever the case, remind yourself of the reason you started this hobby in the first place. you’re not here for no reason. you were meant to put a story out into the world.

— some final words.

writing is not an easy hobby. above all, it requires discipline, the ability to make something and devote lots of time into making that something the best it can be. it’s tough. it’s troublesome. but just remember: you are the only one that can create the story you’re making. no one else. millions, if not billions of people in this world are literate and can write, but only a select few have the passion, drive, creativity, and talent to build whole universes, whole lives from scratch. and you are the only one that is bringing that particular tale into the world. and when you think no one wants to read it, there is someone out there who will deeply value it, someone out there for whom it’s life-changing. your craft is unique, and you are special for being able to do it.

i hope you enjoyed this read & that the advice in it served some kind of purpose for you! if this helped you at all, reblog so that others can get helped as well! have a wonderful day, and safe travels on your writing journey :)
