i said 'explain physics to me like youre in love with me' and after a while of quiet he went 'everything sings'. so i get it now
'Let n be an integer' Why should I let it? I don't think n has behaved well enough today to be an integer. Maybe if n behaves better tomorrow I'll let it be an integer.
the sound of an orchestra tuning up makes me go crazyinsane it makes me start thinking about the eventual heat death of the universe and how someday somewhere an orchestra is going to tune up for the very last time. ever. and then the sun will swallow the earth & turn into a white dwarf & all the stars will go out & meanwhile a gazillion light years away sentient life will be evolving from silicon. and maybe they will have orchestras also
in your 20s you must rediscover the joys of arts and crafts to stave off spiritual decay

CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has 4 crossing-point detectors: ALICE, ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb. This is a totally accurate 100% true absolutely not biased summary of how well they rank in name and logo
Name: 5/5 (we love a woman in STEM, plus it's a fairly easy and informative acronym)
Logo: 3/5 (simple, cool colours but does look slightly evil, and the fact the lines aren't the same length upsets me)
TOTAL: 8/10
Name: 3/5 (loving the mythology name, very cool. However, a point has to be deducted from having two letters in the acorynm from 'Apparatus', especially as one is from the end of the word. Another point is deducted from using an acronym in your acronym)
Logo: 5/5 (perfect, and apparently it's also modelled on an actual physicist from the experiment)
TOTAL: 8/10
Name: 1/5 (it's so boring! You get 1 point for being informative)
Logo: 1/5 (it looks like a child designed it. Where's the pizzazz? I know those are meant to be muon tracks but they really do look like tentacles)
TOTAL: 2/10
Name: 2/5 (Yes okay it's not really any better than CMS', but the fact it has LHC in the name makes it feel very Important™. The beauty is from the fact its doing bottom quark physics, and bottom quarks are also called beauty quarks and I just think that's neat)
Logo: 2/5 (A Basic Bitch of a logo, though it gets 1 redemption point for the red line suggesting CP violation, which is physicsy and cool)
TOTAL: 4/10
"I've been thinking about" something I've thought of for 5 seconds
"it just occurred to me" this has been bugging me for 11 years.
Math is really tiring, im so glad i finally get to relax and do some knitting and crochet and i oh god oh my what the fuck

one of those days where my brain feels completely fried by hometime.
23.08.2020 | 84/100 Days of Productivity | finished my hobbit-inspired spread for this week + essentials for a quiet day | thanks to my cd player i'm getting through quarantine relatively sane...
26.08.2020 | 87/100 Days of Productivity | physics, coffee break, physics | the weather service said it wasn't going to rain anymore today, it'd even started to clear up, but it's pouring!

adulting is difficult, folks. but also kind of exciting sometimes?
(seeing as there are v few scottish studyblrs and highers are bloody difficult!)
(for non-scots, highers are exams we do in between gcse and a-level equivalents)
understand, don’t memorise. this applies to basically every class- if you understand why you do a certain method to solve a problem/ conjugate a verb/ analyse a poem then you can do it in every scenario
prepare to get stuff wrong. there is a significant difference between national 5s and highers, and most people i know took a confidence bump at the start of the year because of the sheer quantity of work. it’s okay!! it’s all learning and all learning is good
work with the right people. i sat with my friends in maths and desperately wish i hadn’t because i worked way better with people who actually challenged me to work hard! find people who are a similar level to you and work together
past papers. there are dozens of past papers online, far more than national 5s. watch out for content that isn’t in courses anymore! dunblane high school’s website has a great collection of past papers that i used loads
have time off. the workload in s5 is crazy so you need to balance your time. use any study periods to finish work and give yourself relax time in the evenings and at the weekends as much as you can
prelims are important but make sure you don’t burn out. as soon as you finish prelims you’ll likely start learning the next part of the course, and i know from experience that it is horrible to do when you’re completely exhausted after prelims. schedule days off into your prelim leave when you can!
i hope that helped somebody because s5 was a really difficult year for me and i wish i had known some of this at the start! if anybody happens to want tips on a particular subject, i got As in maths, physics, chem, french and english and would be more than happy to tell you what was helpful for me!! <3

gravitation notes!
i be like *doesn’t understand brand new, advanced topic instantly* and my brain be like *you are a failure and a terrible student. why do you even do this class oh my god you’re so bad at it and everybody is better than you. time to give up* and that’s on imposter syndrome !

a cute lil plant themed weekly spread for my first full week back at school!
summer studying challenge: summer days or nights?
i’d have to say inbetween- i love dawn and dusk during summer because they’re so drawn out and beautiful.
