i swapped my writing out for a reading a little bit more this year and here are a few of my favs:

fearless liabilities by @femme--de--lettres -- this one was so fun to read. it took me longer than i would have liked to finish it, but every time i picked up where i left off it was pure joy. summer romance, summer fun, summer camp.

for your pleasure by aerid0nis/ @ steelycunt on tumblr (also not tagging because...yep)-- I've slowly been making my way through ridi's back catalogue, and this sweet lil fic is so great. my messy messy boys and first kisses.

okay well, im obviously biased, and i love my own fics, the end.

but, if you don't want to read my nonsense, here are some of my favs:

-the son and heir of nothing in particular by @steelycunt (aeridi0nis on AO3) as well as on the issue of fever and delight and in lieu of beaujolais.

as you can see, i'm particularly fond of their writing and despite loving to be mean to Sirius (in the best sort of way, he is our barbie doll that gets chewed on sometimes, shaken like a rag doll), always do a phenomenal job of capturing his demons and the vibe. there's a particular line in OTIOFAD where sirius is there trying to apologize, and he, like, can't figure out how to slouch enough to do so, and it just hits right where it should. yes.

-the shape and sound of god by @dykefever (dykesiriusblack on AO3).

this is a fleabag AU, and Sirius is the star of the show. I am in love with this sad, sad, depiction of him. What I love a lot about sirius is how raw he is, like literally an open wound walking around and he pulls people into it, but he's always honest about that too. and is just like trying trying trying to be better, but the wound is just festering and. this. also, if you're in the mood for more dykefever, i highly recommend (in my room) i want you here

Beneath a Big Blue Sky by @eyra; also a cult member for this one, i can't help it. There's something so delightful about sirius in this. and understanding. our sweet silly boy. everyone's comfort fic is also my comfort fic.

Boys Don't Cry by @blitheringmcgonagall (YouBlitheringIdiot on AO3);

i don't tend to read about the Prank because it makes me feel too much and drives me insane but THIS ONE. THIS ONE. yes. will read. and Sirius's characterization in this is top tier.

At the Healing Edge of Broken by @heartofspells

OKAY LOOK I HAD TO COME BACK AND EDIT THIS POST. so fair warning (and i told tumblr user heartofspells this when i was reading as well), i had to do some skimming with some of the subject matter in this fic. BUT that does not erase the fact i LOVED this sirius. i loved how sweet he was with harry. i loved his humor. i loved his arrogance and forced vulnerability. I binged this and then went straight to the authors DM's to scream so. yeah. whoops.

(please let the record show i dont generally make rec lists because I'm always afraid someones going to be sad they weren't on it. but here are some of my favs that i find myself returning to.)

i love taylor so much because lover ends with declaring that she wants to focus on joy and not heartbreak. then she writes folklore and evermore, two albums about heartbreak. then she ends evermore with declaring that she’s learned when it’s time to move on and that she’s still survived with herself intact, and she’s leaving the past behind. then she writes midnights, an album about going back in time and refusing to move on from the past. it ends with declaring that the lunch tables of her past don’t matter anymore because she’s in control of her relationship and her life. then she writes the tortured poets department (including the anthology here), an album about how she lost complete control of everything and maybe never had it to begin with. it ends with declaring that these stories aren’t hers to process anymore, and she releases them in order to find her freedom.

can’t wait to see how ts12 fits into this

"You're in my seat."

"You're in my seat."

"Sorry?"

"My seat. You're sitting in it."

Hazel eyes dance. "I didn't realize they assigned seats beyond secondary school."

Green eyes narrow. "I've been sitting in this seat all term. It's mine. A fact which you would know if you'd turned up at any point instead of only on exam days."

A smirk joins the dance. A stomach flips. "I have been here all term as a matter of fact. And I have, indeed, seen you sitting here." 

Teeth grind. "Glad we've sorted that. Now please move."

The boy infuriatingly does not, of course. If anything he settles in more firmly on his—her seat. "What's so special about it anyway? I've been dying to know."

"And that's why you're here?"

The boys smirk twitches wider momentarily. "One of the reasons, yes."

She doesn't care to ask for the others. There are only ten minutes until the exam is due to start. Every minute speaking to this trouble-maker is one fewer for her last minute notes review.

Her pause is long enough to welcome him to continue. "I think I've determined why you like this spot so much. First off, it's perfectly positioned by the heat vent—not directly underneath to make you too warm, but close enough to pull the chill out of the air. It also has a lovely but not too distracting view of the courtyard outside. And, I suppose, once old Sluggy gets here, the acoustics are probably top notch: loud enough but not too loud."

"You're mad," she says, blush creeping up her cheeks. How did he do that?

"I'm not the only one, I reckon," the boy replies, now standing. She has to crane her neck to maintain eye contact and boy does she find herself wanting to. "James, by the way, James Potter."

He stretches his hand out but she eyes in, faking repulsion.

"Am I supposed to care?"

He—James Potter—laughs. "I guess not. Well, that's what I get for waiting all term to talk to the prettiest girl in class. Maybe we'll have a class together next term and I can steal your seat then, too."

He steps around her, agile despite his wide shoulders, the grin never leaving his face. He sends a wink toward her before jogging up the steps to a desk in the back row.

She can't help but watch him plop down in the seat, an easy grin still on his face as he waves to her. She turns away in a huff, gently sitting down in her seat, angry more at herself than him for the fluttering in her stomach that tells her he isn't the only one hoping they share another class next term.
