it’s interesting how many people have knee jerk scorn towards Ozempic and think it’s almost foregone conclusion to be a Faustian bargain that will cause massive long term health problems in exchange for “cheating to lose weight”. as if suffering and struggling to lose weight is just punishment for being a fatty (smells Protestant). the thing is, this doesn’t even bear out in reality either because glp-1 drugs have the knock-on effect of improving health outcomes across the board for almost everything. tho good litmus test for sussing out the type of guy who tells themselves just-so stories

Art is like religion in that it represents something that is beyond the reach of empiricism. The element of fantasy is inextinguishable. Spinoza made the chief distinction that religion, unlike superstition, was founded on knowledge rather than ignorance. But what if, in stark contrast to things forged from knowledge, art is, at times, profoundly further from knowledge than it appears? And there, we might see that art isn't necessarily deep; it's just a mirror, and the mind is an abyss. Yes, I say this as someone who both appreciates and creates art. Criticizing art; classic artist move.

When I see mosses, I think about how they function similarly to sensors or organic bioindicators. For example, you can potentially determine when an environment is contending with pollution merely by looking at moss from a distance. But moss can also be collected and thoroughly examined in a laboratory.
