🍊 - if you asked your f/o to peel an orange for you, what would they do?

🥞 - He stares for a few seconds, wondering if this is some kinda new age prank he's unaware of. But then he whips out his pocket knife and takes the orange, peeling it with a surprising amount of care. Partly because he doesn't want to spill orange juice on himself and partly because he can't help but do any kind of hand work with a lot of care. He'll be calling me spoiled and askin' how I'd get by without him the whole time <3

🥭 - did your f/o have stuffed animals growing up? do they still have stuffed animals? do they have a favorite?

🥞 - I WAS HOPING I WOULD GET THIS ONE I love plushies so much they mean so much to me so I always end up thinkin about this with my favs...YES but he only had one because his dad thought they were for girls but his mom fought to get him just one, a soft black cat...but he loved it SOO much, loved it to the point that it was so worn and tattered you could hardly tell what it was. His mom probably tried to keep it repaired but wasn't much of a seamstress so it was a rough job. He wouldn't have carried it outside the house because his dad would shame him about it so it stayed in his room and he'd sleep with it even going into high school. It got left behind when he left his parents for good one night, but his dad kept it when he found it, stored in a drawer with some of his mothers things. He doesn't do stuffed animals now, but will tolerate owning 1!!! stuffed animal keychain from me. A black lucky cat. He doesn't own any stuffed animals but I'd definitely have some in our bed heeheehoohoo. He'd never tell a soul BUT my lifesized mochi eevee plush is his favorite....it's the perfect texture and softness...like LOOK AT THEM! We love to catch him napping and cuddling with it.....

 

🥦 - does your f/o have any pet peeves? things that just really really get on their nerves? what are they and why?

🥞 - Nick has....so many pet peeves. I HC that he's got autism so there are lots of little things that ick or overstimulate him and he doesn't have the words for why... He hates when people don't respond to him when he asks something, when people use too much cologne or perfume, people chewing loudly or with their mouth open, when people cough or sneeze and don't cover their face (he gets visibly disgusted and mad lmao), people who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom, when someone blows their nose and then proceeds to look at what just filled their tissue/handkerchief, people that don't flush the toilet, people who have no idea what "personal space" is, strangers or acquaintances touching him in any way, wasting food, crying babies where there shouldn't be, when people ask questions during a movie or show, people muttering and not speaking up. Most of these are because of the Autism/OCD but he also just hates other people being rude and gross....despite being rude himself sometimes lol

🥬 - what are some beige flags your f/o has? so, not bad, but not necessarily good either. just. "oh. you do This."

🥞 - He has a tendency to hold eye contact just a littllleee too long and too intensely with people, which can be off putting when combined with his resting bitch face. He fidgets a lot, it's pretty rare for him not to be fidgeting with his gun, rings, necklace, hair, clothes, lighter, pocket knife....I give him a high quality fidget and at first he thinks it's stupid but then when he tries it in private he loves it and will ask me to keep an eye out for more lol. He'll talk to himself under his breath when he thinks no one is listening, but they can hear it most of the time, he doesn't realize just how loud his voice is cause he's got a lil bit of hearing loss from firing guns with no ear protection over the years. Also needs glasses, but when he wears them and needs to read something he's holding? He still takes them off to try and read better, he doesn't realize he does this and doesn't know why everyone else giggles when he does uwu He has some OCD rituals too in the form of checking his ammo a bit too frequently, triple checking saferoom doors, windows, and closets before he sleeps, double washing his hands, also cleaning and maintaining his guns every evening before bed. He's bad about catastrophizing if he doesn't get do these things and genuinely cannot sleep if for some reason he's unable to. Mans also LOVES to nap, he will take them whenever he can, wherever. Will almost always fall asleep on any car ride longer than an hour.

🧅 - what makes your f/o cry? do they get emotional at sad movies or books? do they only get emotional under very rare circumstances?

🥞 - It's near impossible for this man to cry, even if he really should or even when he wants to. Between the trauma from his parents and the nature of his work he's learned how to wear a poker face in any situation. If Nick looks visibly scared or upset that's a sign to panic to everyone else. He'd get emotional about any movie or book where the mom dies, but he wouldn't cry, he'd just get in his head for a bit. He'd only cry at the death of one of the other survivors post the parish. If it happened before then he'd be too stuck in survival mode to react, but he would drink about it in place of crying. I think he'd be a little jealous of the others being able to cry somewhat easier, he just genuinely can't unless it's absolutely dire. I think after a long enough time of being settled in the PNW safely he'd have a happy cry...like once every few years...he deserves that!!!

:pea_pod: - how does your f/o feel about pet names or nicknames? do they like them? hate them? what are their favorites and least favorites to be called and to use?

🥞 - He uses them more teasingly in public but secretly LOVES them in private. He uses nicknames so much in game (Big Guy, Fireball, Sweetie) so of COURSE he loves them. Typically only uses them for people he really cares about, with the exception of the beginning of Dead Center cause of the circumstances lol. He'd love being called Ace, Shark, Tiger, Beau, Boss, and any variation of Sweetheart or Honey (rare for him....its what the old women at his HS job doted on him with...) and would hate Nicky, Nicholas, Col. Sanders, Old Man, and Stinky. I think for me he'd love usin Sweetheart, Honey, Hun, Puddin (with a southern accent lol), anddd Space Cadet (teasingly, I'm prone to spacing out uwu")

🥞- A lavender old fashioned made with a high quality whiskey, and for non-alcoholic it'd be turkish coffee :3 He'd be a big liquor AND coffee snob uwu he's definitely got a dry bar at home and mixes drinks nightly for himself. Pics included for funsies!

🍉 - is your f/o religious? what's their opinion on religion or spirituality?

🥞-Nope, he's an atheist! It's one of the few opinions of his that he's not loud about. He's always been quiet about it to stay out of trouble. It's just one more thing for people to judge you about in his eyes. He sees most religion as a way for people in power to manipulate others, or a means for people to feel better about being shitty since they can just ask for forgiveness later. Was probably raised Catholic or some other traumatizing sect of Christianity, my friend suggested he be raised Mormon for my personal fic and honestly....it's tempting to HC because that would be SO so much to unpack lmao. The thought of him making a joke about soaking kills me dead.

🍑 - is your f/o more comfortable giving or receiving gifts? why? do they have any preferences on gifts they like receiving?

🥞-OH he would be SO uncomfortable with both....I think he'd be better at receiving them because when you give a gift there's that chance that the other person doesn't like it so in a way it can be a bit vulnerable for the giver. Especially for someone like him who never really gave gifts like ever...except to his parents who were probably ungrateful a lot of the time.... He'd still feel pretty uncomfortable getting gifts too because he'd always have that feeling of owing the other person something in return. An instinct he developed because of his parents but also his career...he's had several experiences where gifts were just a means to manipulate the receiving party into doing something for the gifter later. The closest thing to "gifts" he'd have gotten in recent years pre-outbreak would have been strangers buying him drinks or offering him drugs...I think in Dead Center when he shares first aid with the others he's got that in mind, like "I'll get you now so you HAVE to get me later" before he realizes that no, the other's aren't thinking like that at all. Despite being uncomfortable receiving gift's he's always super grateful and eventually learns how to accept them without looking stressed about it. He leans more minimalist so he'd be extra grateful for practical (weapon attachments, a nice quality melee weapon, protective gear) or consumable gifts (cologne, liquor, cigars), fancy dinners, experiences (wine tasting, perfume class, aquarium date), or trips (Beaches, Hot Springs, Scenic Drives) some of those are pre-outbreak ideas and some are post-outbreak but you get the idea. BUT he's just grateful to be thought of regardless of the gift. He definitely gets emotional when it's something he really loves but he never shows that.

🍏 - if you have any queer headcanons for your f/o, how did they realize they were queer?

🥞- YESSSSS several...easily lol. He's just a big bisexual bear to me... doesn't have any real reason for being Bi over Pan, it's just the word he grew up with. I think in high school he would have crushed on guys and gals, and he'd have some shame to work through due to his upbringing but I think after getting out of his parents house he'd work through it pretty fast when he realized he didn't actually give a fuck lol. He doesn't care how someone IDs, he's attracted to all kinds of people and doesn't really have a "type". BUT I also think he's demiromantic...it's part of why he's got divorced. He broke a lot of hearts before he realized he had a weird relationship with romance. I think he'd have to be with someone for awhile before he felt actual romantic love for them, but he'd still be loving before then. He doesn't have much experience being with anyone very long term so he get's uncomfortable when he gets to the 1 year point in a relationship. He probably divorced his ex wife after 2 years for pushing him for kids, which made him realize he didn't really love her like that. That man does NOT want kids lol. He prefers not to use labels and just let things be whatever they are, especially post-outbreak. He's also non-monogamous/polyamorous. I think the L4D2 gang ends up as a sorta unspoken polycule eventually, I imagine that's a common arrangement in zombie settings. That's not to say everyone is romantically and/or sexually involved with one another, but they're just closer than good friends because of the situation...so social norms are thrown to the wind. I also just want an excuse to imagine bein in that cuddle pile tbhhhhh <3

:bell_pepper: - how does your f/o feel about death? are they afraid of it? is there anything specific they'd like to do before they die?

🥞-Before the green flu he wouldn't have cared one way or another. He cried when his mom died but since then he'd never thought twice about dying. But now? He'll never tell a soul but. He's terrified, not of Death but who he'd be leaving behind....even moreso, he's scared of death taking one of the others before HE goes. He just wants to get to the PNW coast with the others, establish a stronghold and enjoy what little joys you can squeeze out of a zombie apocalypse before his time is up....

🍆 - does your f/o have a favorite scent? why is it their favorite? do they have a least favorite scent?

🥞- YESSSSS I HAD A WHOLE WRITE UP ABOUT THIS ALREADY LMAOO SOOOO imma just copy it here and add onto it. It's probably my personal interest that I project the HARDEST onto him but...it's so fitting. I can't help myself :3

I’ve been SO obsessed with fragrance lately so I got ALOT of thoughts about his schmells...I'll wanna eventually make a post about the others too but I mean the guy complains about smells multiple times in game, I HAVE to think about it! He's super sensitive to icky smells of course, he's probably biting his tongue to not make MORE comments about it in game. Least favorite smell...sewers...yea....BUT outside of like, obviously gross smells I think he'd hate artificial coffee scent, like how it smells in a candle. Also "grandma" perfumes. He would have real strong opinions on designer fragrances, absolutely hates the weird ones with like...blood or dirt notes...if he was an internet guy he'd be writing the most SCATHING reviews on the fragrance forums lol He worked at a cologne stand from ages 16-23 and at some point his mob stuff ties in with it (smuggling stuff disguised as cologne probs) and when he starts doing well enough with that he quits. He occasionally goes back to pick up a new scent and see the older women he worked with cause they doted on him so hard (and still do <3). SO alla that to say...he's obsessed with fragrances, like this man will leave this house without his keys but will NOT forget to put on some cologne. Carries travel sized ones on him at all times too, just incase. Smell can contribute to image just as much as looks do! He's not the kinda guy to own lots of stuff but he does have a pretty big collection of scents, he's got em on a stand and everything! He rotates out scents by seasons but has a few favorites that stay in rotation. He wears woody smells in the fall, spicy & boozy smells in the winter, florals in the spring and aquatic smells in the summer. He even has specific picks for being around work guys vs running cons. THIS is his signature scent though. It's his favorite because it smells like the kind of life he wants live, reminiscent of a luxurious casino or a late night in a smoke lounge. It was the first nicer cologne he bought for himself while working in HS, it took him awhile to save up for a full bottle.

Ways I Show a Character Is Falling Apart While Pretending to Be a Perfectionist

Some characters don’t collapse in a blaze of glory. No, they disintegrate politely, with color-coded planners and a frozen smile that says, "Everything’s fine, Susan, stop asking."

They cling even harder to routines. Morning jog, 5 a.m. journaling, bullet-journaling their dog’s bowel movements. Because if they just keep checking boxes, they can pretend nothing’s crumbling underneath.

They hyperfixate on weird tiny details. The report can be on fire, but by god, they will die on the hill of choosing the right font. ("If I find the perfect serif, maybe my life will stop feeling like it's slipping through my fingers!")

They say "I'm just really busy!" like it’s a badge of honor, when it’s actually a giant red flag made out of calendar invites and suppressed emotions.

They can't finish anything anymore. They start 14 different projects, convinced each new thing will "finally get them back on track"…and end up ghosting every single one like a bad Tinder date.

Their compliments to others are laced with self-hate. "You’re so talented, I could never pull that off" they say, smiling while beating themselves bloody on the inside.

They apologize. For everything. Late by two minutes? "I’m so sorry." Sent an email? "Sorry if that’s annoying!" Existing? "Sorry for breathing the same air!"

They're "fine." Always "fine." It's said with the same energy as someone duct-taping a broken chair and inviting you to sit on it.

They self-medicate with "productive" coping. Organizing their spice rack at midnight? Totally normal. Redesigning their resume for no reason while crying into a box of crackers? Absolutely fine. Nothing to see here.

They get defensive about the dumbest things. “Of course I’m okay! Look at my to-do list!” (Sure, babe. Tell that to your bloodshot eyes and the way you just called your boss "Mom" on Zoom.)

Their version of self-care is making another list titled “How to Fix Myself” and then immediately feeling guilty for needing it.

It is absolutely vital in any fandom to have a favourite character who you want to wrap up in a pile of blankets and give sweet treats to and a favourite character you want to beat on the head with hammers.
