obviously this smell is ais ("cloaked in the scent of smoke and blood") which many people have already noticed

but do you guys think. ais was there when mc was there. do you think ais already saw mc's hands. that's why he didn't actually care to see them later at the seaspring but brought them up anyway as a means to intimidate mc?? because he already knows??

That is really interesting.

I saw many picture that Vere being a god, so he can basicalyy do whatever he wants and that now everything is more of a fun time, something to keep going while being trapped.

So when we dont give him enough of entertaiment or make him angry - he wont take it.

But Vere being an image of a farmer ? Thats new

So I was discussing with my friend about Touchstarved theories and shit. Most of which I makeup for funsies. But one of which that I don’t really have a basis for that I just think is a fun thought involves Vere and his route in the demo.

So yes, if you haven’t played the demo yet, spoilers ahead.

As I was saying, in Vere’s route at the end you make a choice in which determines whether he lets you live or he kills you. And I say “let’s you live” because let’s be real, if he had really wanted to kill you he still would have and been on his merry way to go see that lute player (lutist??). But if you choose that option to “distract” him he just moves on and lets you go. Which I thought was strange. Until I thought about it some more.

So someone may have already pointed this out but I’m gonna say it anyways. It’s hinted at that at some point Vere may have been revered as a god. And to a certain extent, I think may have really formed his moral stance on things.

So I say all of that to say, that I think when Vere sees you choose the option to just give up in his head he likely believes he has a right to mercy kill you. Like when a farmer comes upon an animal so sickly or injured that the choice becomes would it be more cruel to let it live and suffer or should I kill it and end the suffering? So when we make the choice to give up, Vere is just the farmer pulling the trigger.

Soooo- Touchstarved, am I right?? I planned to post about it on the kickstarter anniversary but you must forgive my fashionable lateness <3. Got into it a bit ago and I've been doodling for it for a while. Prepare for a lot more where this came from very soon >:). Especially of my favourite character. Who? You shall soon see.

But for now, have a doodle and Vere and the lovely alchemist Noel, made by the equally lovely @todayis-snowy! I came up with a pose concept, and those two were just right there.

And I do have my own MC in the pipeline. Hopefully finished up in the next week. Along with a bunch of other art. Until then though!

Between Ais and Leander

Leander and MC are walking from the Wet Wick when he casually asks, "So, you and Ais, huh?" He says it with a smile, like it’s nothing, just friendly interest.

MC might brush it off, might confirm it, might say nothing at all. It doesn’t matter. Leander hums, gaze flicking ahead like he’s barely thinking about it. Then, almost offhandedly—"You ever wonder why he’s always looking for a fight?"

If MC questions him, he just laughs, shaking his head. "No reason. Just something I’ve noticed. The guy doesn’t do anything unless he gets something out of it. And you? You’re something, alright."

The way he says it is warm, maybe even teasing, but there’s something else under it. A suggestion. A quiet reminder that Ais isn’t just harmless fun. That Leander, of course, is only looking out for them.

He doesn’t push it. Just lets the words hang there, giving MC something to think about. And if later, just once, they hesitate around Ais—Leander will notice. And he’ll smile.

I could talk extensively about how I think Vere represents hedonism, whereas Mhin symbolizes self-repression, and that’s why they’re both enemies and foils. And I will. 

Hedonism. In broad terms (and without getting into distinctions between axiological and ethical hedonism), it could be defined as the theory that describes the pursuit of pleasure and satisfaction of desires as the end goal of life. 

Good music, fine clothing, quality champagne, drawing, sex. Vere gives himself to everything natural to the soul without restraint. One may even argue that his predilection for suffering (and I quote, it is precisely suffering that makes MC’s soul “so irresistible” to him) may too be related to this. What is wallowing in sorrow but yet another excess of the heart? 

Vere is an ancient, supernatural being that seemingly exists purely through self-indulgence and physical demands. Hunger is a relevant theme to his character; he embodies both the primordial need for sustenance AND the fear of being preyed upon, a terror most animals —humans included— share. He craves what is authentic, and, despite his continuous teasing and lying, he is undoubtedly the most honest character so far in letting us know what he is and does. Vere is natural, raw, and, for now, unashamed. 

Now Mhin, to me, they embody the concept of resistance. We’ve seen how their fatal flaw states they will try to resist change at any cost. They’re a newcomer plagued by a curse they do not want, a monster that lives within them and they resent. If you look closely at their “monster forms” in the trailer, you may be able to appreciate that Mhin’s (along with Kuras’…chest…face thing) is the only one that seems to be crying. 

There seems to be a clear divide between Mhin’s human consciousness and the monstrous bird form that takes over them. This gap is insurmountable enough for them to feel as though their transformation involves a breach of emotional consent: they resist this metamorphosis, yet it happens violently regardless of their desires. This makes them repulsed by anything that side of them represents, sickened by what is inherent to them. 

If we consider Mhin’s constant rejection of natural desires in opposition to Vere’s embracing of them, it is easy to understand why they don’t get along. They are what the other despises the most, and have a disposition towards life so antinatural to each other that any chances of meeting in the middle are immediately discarded. 

This just makes me want to see more of them interacting together, though.
