Breath

Imagine yourself lying on the kitchen floor, fighting for your life. You are struggling to breath, your mouth wide open, trying so hard to suck in air. Your lungs are empty, and some invisible rock is crushing your chest. A terrifying noise escapes your throat as your body jerks. Your eyes roll back, and the last thing you see before losing consciousness is your lover as he opens the back door.

Then someone is pushing on your chest. You neither awake nor asleep.

"Breath!" a strained voice command "Breath, Breath, please Breath"

You recognize the voice. You want to come back; you want your heart to restart. You can look at yourself. You are lying beneath him, so helpless. Your shirt is torn open, and his strong hands are constantly pumping your stilled heart. You want to cry, because you know it's over. But he won't stop. With tears in his eyes, he continues to command your lifeless body.

"Come on, come on BEAT! PLEASE" he howls in pain.

He pushes air into your still lungs.

He has been doing it for thirty minutes now and you can see how tired he is.

Stop, you want to say, she won't come back it has been so long...

But then all of a sudden, he is taken over by a profound madness. He begins pumping your bruised chest, so deep that he breaks two ribs. Then you feel an excruciating pain. You are sucked into your body, and you gasp, the terrifying sound echoing in the kitchen.

Your lover stops, his body drenched in sweat, a crazed look on his face. Then he slumps on top of you and continues to give breath for you as your broken ribs are giving your internal organ a lot of pain.

You can hear sirens and the distance. And a tear rolls down your open eyes as you realize that you are finally safe.
