I Have To Say, The Doll Incident In The Show Is Very Much A Symbol Of The Problems In Ned’s Relationship

I have to say, the doll incident in the show is very much a symbol of the problems in Ned’s relationship with Sansa.

Ironically, since it was probably supposed to be a part of Ned being hurt by Sansa rather than her being hurt by him, it blatantly shows how little he cares for her.

If he’d taken even the slightest bit of interest in his kid, he would have already known she was no longer playing with dolls. He would have known how she spends her time(sadly, we didn’t get to see as much of Sansa in her element bc D&D are stupid), and he would have been more kind and careful with her. Instead, he basically ignores her, ignores her interests, ignores her passions, even when she’s basically standing in front of him, begging him to look at her.

The doll, when given to Sansa in this context, is as much an insult as it would have been if given to Arya. It’s a symbol of how little he actually cares for her.

Much is made of how Sansa keeps the doll and seems to value it, just as much is made of the way Ned chooses to renounce his honour, in order to protect her.

But when held in the context of their actual relationship, these two acts have a very different meaning.

Sansa keeps and values the doll because it’s literally the only thing Ned ever gave her. If he’d given her something else with any kind of emotional depth, the doll would not have held the importance it did.

Ned renouncing his honour, protecting Sansa, seems like love on the surface. Until you realize that it’s the only time he actually seems to show that he values her at all. And even at that point, I truly doubt he could tell us so much as her favourite colour.

so weird that in young royals August is called to be backup man and told that he's second in line. Like he's Wilhelm's 2nd cousin, so they share great-grandparents. What happened to the family, like so that's skipping so many people actually. All of Wilhelm's first cousins, aunts/uncles have to be dead for that to happen!! Did Kristina's parents only have her? Possible sure, but royalty has been so intense about having more than one child with the whole heir and spare(s) thing.

I’m crying like a baby

it’s the way she keeps trying to be Good and do what the other version of herself wants, and one version of her reluctantly laughing while the other smashes the guitar, sitting intaking the lesson that ‘everyone will betray you’, willingly pushing through taking shots while the other encourages her. Like it really unpacks and goes into her need to Be Good And Please Those Around Her and she kinda goes along with it and does her part even though she’s clearly Not Having A Good Time and it just has me ): ): ): ):

AU where instead of trying to cure her infertility Yennefer just goes around saving random people’s lives and invoking the law of surprise bcos she figures sooner or later it’ll net her a baby. she hasn’t got one yet but she has amassed about 2 dozen dogs so she’s doing pretty well for herself.

Something funny to me about Percy Jackson is the family tree. The greek gods were wild and married and had kids with relatives. It's all pretty fucking incest-y dude. But that makes the demogods related too. Like. Lemme point out a few connections.

Percy - Annabeth: 1st cousins once removed

Percy - Nico: 1st cousins

Percy - Piper: 1st cousins once removed* OR she is his great-great-great-grand aunt/cousin**

Piper - Leo: 1st cousins ALSO could be in a weird kinda stepsibling situation because Aphrodite and Hephaestsus are divorced

Like what's that like??

______

Demigod #1: ugh you're a bitch

Demigod #2: I'm your aunt so shut up!!

______

Percabeth: making out, living the life, happy for fucking once

New demigod: you're actually cousins. Did you know? You're kissing a family member :D

Percabeth:

______

You're some poor guy listening to group of weird fucked up teens and half of them are dating. Then one of them fucking just looks at you and is like

"Technically we're all related you know"

* According to Homer, Aphrodite is Zeus' kid

** Aphrodite is Uranus' kid, who is Zeus' like great-grandfatger, according to Hesiod

Maybe the thing that makes Austen the gold standard of romance is her focus on "esteem" as the all-important factor in a relationship. Your partner has to be someone you can respect. They have to have traits you admire. You have to value them, not just for the security they can provide or the feelings they give you, but as a separate, unique person.

This is so different from the bad romances I see in so many other places, where the two people are attracted to each other almost against their will. They'll be like, "I hate him and everything he stands for, but I just can't stop thinking about him," or the girl will obsess over the guy's body or whatever. We're supposed to believe that this attraction overcomes all the obstacles so they'll fall in love. But as a reader, I'm looking on like, "Okay, but do you even like him? What is there that you find admirable about him? Do you respect his judgement, his skills, his values? Why am I supposed to believe he'll be a good partner for you just because you stopped bickering for five minutes?"

Austen doesn't forget that the purpose of a romance is not to find someone who makes you happy now, but someone who'll be a good partner to help you navigate the rest of your adult life. You have to engage your mind as well as your heart to find someone that you can respect as a separate person before you can join hands in marriage.

The demonisation of Alicent Hightower and her choices regarding her children remind me so much of the way this fandom chose to condem outline Sansa for her own decision about her son it's not even funny.

Outline Sansa didnt cause the conflict between the Starks and Lannisters - they caused that themselves. Sansa was only responding to it by protecting her kid. We have no idea how the Starks would have felt about her son. For we all know they would have insisted on them being sent to the Wall or the Faith. Catelyn calls the potential children Sansa might give Tyrion "vile" (understandable, given what was happening) so I don't think it's an entirely unrealistic assumption. Seriously, why the hell should outline Sansa be condemned for choosing her kid over her family? They married her to Joffrey in the first place.

Similarly, Alicent didn't cause the dangerous situation, Viserys did. It doesn't matter if her children honoured Rhaenyra's right to succession - her children would always be seen as a threat, if not by Rhaenyra then by her unpredictable husband.
