>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.
>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.
>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.
>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.
>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.
>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.
>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.
>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!
>Lemmings problem now solved.
>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.
>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.
>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.
>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.
>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.
>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.

Every user on Tumblr at this point is aware of the transfem focused bans that have gone Severe in the last few days again. Or, every user that is transfem aligned or follows someone who is. Which makes me ask, how/why the hell hasn't the Tumblr staff or @photomatt addressed this at all yet, and how it's still going so hard.
It's very much not like this is the first time this has happened, it's been a prevailing issue for years on this site.
For example, back in 2022, they were made to hire a sexuality and gender bias specialist and reevaluate over 3,000 cases over their clear bias towards queer (especially transfem) users before. It is *almost* surprising how little the staff of Tumblr seem to care about their clear discrimination, after being sued before.
It's not like this site has a large user base, or is highly profitable (an apparent 30 million dollar loss per year). So it seems that the staff is just going out on a, last minute before the site dies, transmisogynist rampage without real care about lawsuits or even just how the user base responds. I don't know how they can keep claiming it's not discrimination at this point.
A more recent example was with @/predstrogen, which I think was the banning that got the most attention due to the CEO @photomatt actually commenting on the situation and increasing the amount of harassment she was getting. To the point where Matt followed Rita to Twitter to reveal all of the URLs she owned and also for him to just generally throw an embarrassing hissy fit.
Honestly this shit is just so fucking ridiculous and I hope nothing but the worst for all the people making this stuff happen to the users on this site. I couldn't care less about "ahhh she posed NSFW!! Or she posted something kind of weird or mean!!". Tumblr shouldn't be discriminating against users, and that's what they're doing.
I'm also aware of a lot of POC, specifically black users getting banned as well. So please don't forget to give attention to that. I just can't find any good articles to read, but if I find something I'll add it to the post.
I don't think there's a solution to how shit this site is being run. It would be lovely to have another platform to move to but I, personally, can't imagine a site like this that's also genuinely free of discrimination in the way it's ran.
This is TexanCannibal’s oc on artfight!!!! Uuugh I fucking love him. This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever made.
There’s two wolves inside you. One wants disabled + ‘disfigured’ people to be depicted without being portrayed as unnerving or horror. The other thinks horror, gore, and killing people is fucking awesome.
You draw disabled murderers because you’re ableist, I draw disabled murderers because I love murder. We are not the same
By far the funniest transition timelines are the ones from trans men where the "before" picture is some teeny little guy with sad baby seal eyes and the "after" picture looks like Kratos
Headcanon that horn color = blood color. Methinks subspaces horns used to be more red, but after he got poisoned, his blood turned more pink.
No idea how this would work with coil, hes an enigma. I looked at gameplay and it looks like only his crystal horn changes color, so i assume its the crystal at work
Also dyeing your horns is more like painting your nails, and you can put fun designs and patterns if you want. Maybe even the glitter clear coat
