I barely go here, but the love story between Veilguard's two Grey Warden contacts is NUTS. What do you mean Evka found Antoine dying in a pool of Darkspawn blood and administered an emergency Joining in hopes of maybe saving his life, and it worked, and then they fell in love, and by the time of the game they're very happily married? What do you mean they each wrote the other a letter to be read in the case of the writer being Called, and in Antoine's he admits life as a Grey Warden has been worth it because it gave him Evka? And he ends the letter with "Je t'aimerai toujours" (I will always love you) making that the last thing she'd ever hear from him? While Evka's letter is in a cypher and thusly only for Antoine? Couple of all time I swear.
whoa i actually had an art idea and followed through on it
I know not everyone wants to read the books, but I think more people should read this passage from the masked empire specifically. Especially those who are struggling to understand modern elves being oppressed and the evanuris having been oppressors.
Solas and Elgar'nan's war of words is truly one of my favorite moments in the entire game. So, I thought I'd post a quick transcript for anyone who may be interested.
(I did my best with the translations, using the Dragon Age Wiki as a source.)
Part One
Solas: Elgar'nan! Lethallin! Ma banal'evanuris. Ma salin ar ghilana? Translation: Elgar'nan! Brother/Friend! You are not a god. Do you need a guide? (Do you need me to show you how?) Elgar'nan: Fen'Harel, you have no power here!
Part Two
Elgar'nan: So, the Dread Wolf has arrived to defend his pawn. Solas: Your cruelty forced my hand. Elgar'nan: A hundred generations, and still the same refrain. Solas: Again you have caged our people, and again, I will set them free. Elgar'nan: But you were always stubborn, Fen'Harel. Insubordinate. Unmanageable, even by Mythal's reckoning. Solas: You have lost the right to speak her name. Elgar'nan: Ma vallas ban! Shev gar, Fen'Harel! Translation: You cannot kill/defeat me! (You set (the setting sun) never!) Come, Fen'Harel!
Part Three
Solas: The only reason Mythal joined you was that she knew the monster you would become if left unchecked. She thought to temper your brutish ego. Instead, you betrayed her. Murdered her. Elgar'nan: (Chuckles) Only the first time, Dread Wolf.
Part Four
Solas: The cruelty is nothing new, but what has happened to the vaunted brilliant mind of Elgar'nan the mighty? The blight has left you blunt and slow, a monster, not a mastermind. You used to be a challenging opponent. Elgar'nan: You saw me as an opponent. To me, you were an irritation. A fly buzzing ceaselessly. Solas: I must speak to you in this tongue. It seems elven is beyond your grasp. Elgar'nan: As much as freedom is beyond yours.
Part Five
Solas: Once the blight is free, it will rule this world, and you will be its attack dog. You will burn this world at its command, as Andruil did at yours, and you will leave only ruin behind you. Elgar'nan: This world is ruined already! Your Veil destroyed it! Solas: You could heal it. You have the strength to repair the damage without using the blight! Elgar'nan: (Choked laughter) Save your games for the mortals, Dread Wolf. The blight is my blade, and it will take more than your tricks to get me to lay it down. Your whining comes from envy, Fen'Harel, but it does not have to be so. There is a place for you at my side in a new, glorious empire. Solas: But it will not have eluvians, will it? June built them, and now he is dead. Our great cities came from Sylaise. Our deepest mysteries from Dirthamen. Elgar'nan: I will restore it all. Their achievements will not be lost. Solas: You were a bully who ruled over what others had built, and now the others are gone. Who do you have left? Ghilan'nain? You cannot rebuild a world by stitching together monsters.
Commission for @sihakadan! I had a lot of fun working on this đđthank you for commissioning me c: Close up under the cut
đĽŠđĽŠđĽŠ
Hello there, gorgeous. Absolutely perfect, could do no wrong, ever. I'd die for them. Oh, and Reave's there too.
All kidding aside, absolutely amazing work. I love this so much. And it's not even my commission (but I did make the bastard, soooo maybe?) Love your work, Jano!
@sihakadan, I know you're drooling over him.
Almost done working on this commission!
Once my mutuals reminded me not to let fear take over and to get out of my own head, I did. And when I did, I realized somethingâthose who are feeding authorsâ fics into these notoriously unreliable AI detectors are actually helping these companies by giving them more data. And most of these companies? They also have their own AI content generation tools, which means they are using the samples of the writing of from those authorsâ to improve their own AI generation tools.
So now, Iâm not just scaredâIâm scared and mad.
Instead of making unproductive call-out posts that donât actually help the community recognize AI-generated text, letâs do something useful. Letâs talk about ways you can be empowered as a reader to spot AI-generated content.
There is no fool proof method to figure out for sure if a text is AI generated, unless you are literally physically sitting with the writer watching them write like they are a zoo animal.
AI detectors are unreliable and inconsistent. Plus, with how quickly AI-generated content is evolving, these tools are constantly lagging behind, making them outdated and even less effective over time.
Thus far, the best AI detection is YOU. It isnât easy at first, but the research shows that you can learn how to do this.
One article from the MIT Technology Review (2019) states:
Another study found that untrained humans were able to correctly spot text generated by GPT-3 only at a level consistent with random chance. The good news is that people can be trained to be better at spotting AI-generated text, Ippolito says. She built a game to test how many sentences a computer can generate before a player catches on that itâs not human, and found that people got gradually better over time. âIf you look at lots of generative texts and you try to figure out what doesnât make sense about it, you can get better at this task,â she says. One way is to pick up on implausible statements, like the AI saying it takes 60 minutes to make a cup of coffee.
Fun fact: This article has the journalist submitting her own work to various AI detectors, one of them being Originality.AI, which indicated her writing had a 50-50 split on being AI and human.
One of the problems with these large language models (LLMs), as this article from Capitol Technology University points out, is that it has made AI generated text more complex, making it harder to tell it apart from human writing. But, they share some signs you can look for, as described from their article below:
Inconsistencies and repetition:Â Occasionally, AI produces nonsensical or odd sentences which can be a clear indicator of AI-generated text. Abrupt shifts in tone, style, or topic can point to AI that is struggling to maintain coherent ideas. Whereas humans often vary structure to create a better flow, repeated phrases or sentence structures can point to AI relying more on memorized patterns. Occasionally, AI produces nonsensical or odd sentences which can be a clear indicator of AI-generated text.
Context and content:Â If the text seems to be unable to grasp the larger context of the writing, is missing the point entirely, or references specific details without appropriate context, it could be AI.
Does that mean all inconsistencies, excessive repetition, or overly descriptive writing automatically indicate AI-generated text? No, absolutely not. Writing styles vary, and many human writers naturally have quirks like these.
This article from Forbes (2024) identified 5 ways to help identify AI generated content, but I feel these 3 specific ones best apply to fiction and fanfics:
Language Patterns: AI generated text tends to lack emotional subtlety, be overly formal, or use complex words, leading to the sentences sounding stiff and not flowing well. Alternatively, the over use of cliches. Consistency Issues: AI generated text tends to struggle with narrative details, leading to abrupt changes in the story. For example an abrupt change in the description of a setting without explanation. Unusual Language Errors: Sometimes AI generated text uses odd and unusual phrases that feel out of place.
Again, does this automatically mean that writing lacking emotional subtlety or being overly formal is AI-generated? No, not at all. Writing styles vary, and some authors naturally have a more formal tone or a direct approach to storytelling.
AI-generated text can sometimes be hard to distinguish from human writing, and many of the so-called âsignsâ of AI can also be just someoneâs writing style or someone being new to writing. Before assuming a fic is AI-generated, take a step back and look at it critically.
Does it actually feel off in a way that suggests AI (such as major consistency errors, repetitive phrases, or nonsensical sentences)?
Or does it just have a different writing style than youâre used to?
As shown in multiple studies and real-world examples, AI detectors are not reliable. They are inconsistent, often outdated, and can flag even completely human-written work as AI. Using them as definitive proof, even with the above information does more harm than good.
Also, some of these AI detectors programs also have AI generation programs. You are literally providing more data to these programs to help improve generate AI text.
If an AI detection program does not appear to have a a sister program that generate AI content, ask yourself:
Could this company be mangaged by a parent company that DOES have an AI generated program?
Have you read the terms and conditions to agree to use this AI detection program? If not, have you considered where does the data you have it analyze go? Is it stored and sold to 3rd parties to be used to improve AI generated content programs?
If you still have doubts, and you feel itâs appropriate, you could politely reach out to the author. Instead of accusing them, ask about their writing process or how they developed the story. Most human writers love to talk about their inspiration, research, and creative choices.
Unless you have strong, irrefutable proof (which is very hard to get), publicly accusing someone of using AI can do serious harmâboth to the writer and to the community as a whole. False accusations drive real writers away from sharing their work.
Instead of call-outs and AI detectors, push for conversations on how to navigate AI in fandoms and creative writing spaces in a way that doesnât rely on fear or false accusations. Encourage transparency, but also respect that writers shouldnât have to prove their humanity just to share their work.
Thank you and I will now go back to playing in my little section of the dragon age sandbox where I make Solas kiss Lavellan.
I am facing financial difficulties and opening commissions to help pay for my plethora of medicines, medical bills, and general bills along with trying to keep clothes on my ever-growing beanstalk of a child.
Here is my Google Doc to look at my pricing list and disclaimers.

Based off a dream I had. This is not me, but I dreamt of a girl in love with a pirate captain. She waited on the shore, waiting for his ship's signal but it never comes and she stood there in terror asking "What do I do now, Cass? What am I supposed to do now?"
@sinedra provided her name, Cece. The pirate captain's name is Caspian and he is here:
Love it! It's so Sadira!
Did @sinedra 's Sadira for a Halloween prompt. The randomizer said cute grim reaper and I was like...bet.
I try not to post commissions on my main, because I know they aren't writing related, but look at the art my friend did!!
I'm so in love with how it turned out and so excited to run her in this campaign. My poor little, spicy firebender and cute little spark, Aki.
Thank you so, so much. This is my background and it's not changing anytime soon.
Please commission my friend! She's amazing and kind and awesome!
Got the honor of doing this little spicy fireflake for a DnD, ATLA themed. I present, Kyoko and her little fren Aki, from the Fire Nation! Thank you noodle, for supporting me. She was fun and I learned some things.
I still have commission openings if anyone is interested!

tumblr mobile has seadily become near unusable these past few updates. not just from a user experience perspective (which is important enough in itself) but also from an accessibility perspective.
examples include the new way the image viewer works (if you can call it "working"), the tumblr live button replacing the profile button, and that newly created blogs will be forced to have their main dashboard tab be the 'for you' page.
reverse the recent image viewer update
scrap the new users 'for you' page default setting
let us turn off tumblr live indefinitely
increase efforts against spam / porn bots
make reporting abuse and hate speech as easy as reporting as reporting spam
let us go nuts show nuts again... for real this time
commit to improving usability and accessibility, and listening to users!
(suggestions welcome!)
to protest against these usability issues, and inspired by the recent reddit blackout, i propose a 48 hour blackout (where you don't use tumblr at all). preferably of both mobile and web (since web has problems too) but mobile is the focus here.
this marks the end of pride month (for the "queerest place on the internet") and the start of disability month (since accessibility is a massive issue here).
tumblr office is in San Francisco, USA, so the times and dates will be calculated using their time zone (PDT).
i can't afford to blaze this post so please spread it around as much as possible! protests only work if significant numbers show up!

in the UK, if 100k sign a a government petition it will be brought to Parliament and debated. y'all know this country is suffering from some 80s-style bigotry right now, and this is one symptom: almost 200k fuckholes have come together to force the government to discuss whether it is 'appropriate' to tell children that queer people exist. this is a big symbolic victory for them. and i am burning with fury.
please, if you're from the UK, sign this counter-petition so they can at least see how much of a minority they are. simply put, the attempt to put these bastards in their place isn't gathering enough steam. there are barely 2000 more signatures now than there were this morning (27th January 2023), and that isn't enough. i refuse to let these people feel even a moment of victory or satisfaction. please help.
I'm sure you've seen posts floating around about leaving comments on AO3 as a "second kudos" but seriously, try it sometime.

Body Language Cheat Sheet for Writers
As described by Selnickâs article:
Author and doctor of clinical psychology Carolyn Kaufman has released a one-page body language cheat sheet of psychological âtellsâ (PDF link) fiction writers can use to dress their characters.
Tumblr has not been doing a great job at talking about this, but:
With OneDnD, Wizards of the Coast has decided to update the Open Game License (OGL). Said license is what allowed people to create homebrew DnD content and sell it, and even larger companies to use certain sorts of content. Pathfinder, for example, is built on said OGL. This also allows streamers and artists to exist and benefit from said content.
With OneDnD (sometimes called âdnd 6eâ), WOTC wants to create a much more restrictive OGL, which will, amongst other things:
Make WOTC take a cut for any DnD-related work (according to Kickstarter, a whole 25% of the benefits)
Let WOTC cancel any project related to DnD up to their discretion
Let WOTC take ANY content made based on their system, and re-sell it without crediting you, or giving you a single cent
And most importantly, revoke the old OGL, which will harm any company or game system that used it as a base, such as Pathfinder. And it means they GET ownership over any homebrew content you may have done for 5e in the past!
Itâs important to note that OGLs are supposedly irrevocable. They were planning to use it for OneDnD initially, but they want to apply it retroactively to 5e, somehow. Which is illegal, but lawyers have mentioned thereâs a chance they may get away with it given the wording.
This means that anything you make based on DnD (A homebrew item? A character drawing? Even music, according to them?), can get taken and used as they deem appropiate.
These news come from a leak of the OGL, which have been confirmed by multiple reputable sources (including Kickstarter, which has confirmed that WOTC already talked with them about this), and was planned to be released next week.
So, what can we do?
Speak against it. Share the word. Reblog this post. Let people know. Tumblr hasnât been talking much about this matter, but itâs VERY important to let people know about what is WOTC bringing.Â
Boycott them. Do not buy their products. Do not buy games with their IP. Do not watch their movie. CANCEL your DnD Beyond subscription. (Btw, they ARE planning to release more subscription services too!). They do not care about the community, but they care about the money. Make sure to speak through it.Â
And maybe consider other TTRPG systems for the time being, Pathfinderâs Paizo has been much nicer to the community, their workers are unionized and are far more healthy overall
requested by: anonymous request: How exactly can I describe a characters ethnicity/skin color casually, without it sounding like a specific scene that just exists to describe the skin color? I hope this makes sense lmao⌠I just want to write a scene where I casually mention someoneâs ethnicity or skin color
description of appearance: No matter if skin colour or hairstyle or clothes, a text is more dynamic if you don't dedicate an entire scene/paragraph to it but rather sprinkle the necessary information in here and there. However, there can be instances where it's conducive to the plot to put that entire paragraph (e.g. introducing a new important character with backstory). Otherwise, I'd say try to keep it short and put it where it serves the plot.
ways to incorporate...
... a description of appearance:
when a character makes their first entrance (describe everyone's colouring - POCs' and white characters')
the impression their complexion makes together with their clothes: "the bright yellow of their shirt complemented their dark skin"
the way their colouring interacts with lighting: "the grey weather took away the rosy hue of their fair skin"
when appearances create a contrast: "I immediately noticed them because they were the only other black person"
... ethnicity:
let the characters mention it where it makes sense
regarding the narrator you've chosen for your story, it can also be blended into an inner monologue
include parts of their culture: traditions, terms, family, etc. (this also allows to bring up their ethnicity repeatedly over the story and not only at the beginning)
show their struggles: are they affected by social struggles? then show it!
words to use to describe skin colour:
... basic colour descriptions:
brown
black
beige
white
pink
... more specific colours (try sticking to familiar/common words that can be easily visualised):
amber
bronze
copper
gold
ochre
terracotta
sepia
sienna
porcelain
tan
... prefixes or modifiers (can be easily combined with basic colours):
dark
rich
warm
deep
fair
faint
light
cool
pale
... undertones (pre-dominant colours underneath the skin - often warm or cool, sometimes also neutral and olive):
yellow
orange
coral
golden
silver
rose
pink
red
blue
... avoid food analogies as it's often received as offending, fetishising, and/or objectifying.
That's all I can provide as of now but I'm sure you guys have aspects to contribute. I'm very interested to hear your thoughts, so please feel free to add to this post whatever you like to/can share <3

1. Write what you like without shame
2. Your writing doesnât have to be morally âjustâ to be good writing/storytelling
3. Being âgoodâ and being ârighteousâ are not one and the same
4. Your writing doesnât have to meet any guidelines to be good - just write it
5. It doesnât matter if your writing sucks now. Get the words down; you can always edit later
6. We all have self-doubt. Yes, even the famous author you think could never possibly because you think theyâre that incredible. One day, if you donât already, there will be people that think like that about you. Keep going.
7. Your writing is not less important than anyone elseâs. All writing has its purpose. Yours may not be something thatâll start a social movement, but it has a purpose to the people it matters to.
8. Stop comparing your writing to others. Youâre insulting yourself and them. Your writing isnât meant to be like theirs. Your writing is meant to be like yours.
9. You are better than you give yourself credit for.
10. ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PROUD OF YOUR WRITING WITHOUT FEELING SHAME. It is not self-centered, conceited, selfish or anything similar to be proud of what you create. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF IT.
11. Youâre allowed to be proud of your writing, even if you think it sucks. You are allowed to be proud of your writing, even if you think it sucks. Be proud of the growing youâve done. Be proud of the fact that you push forward in spite your self-doubt. Even terrible writing has things to be proud of.
Remember: What you do is incredible and hard. Let yourself feel pride. Let yourself struggle and find what does and doesnât work for you. Allow yourself to learn and grow. Thatâs what life is about - growing into yourself. That means creatively as much as any other way. <3
Happy writing, my friends.

Punctuating Dialogue
â§
⸠âThis is a sentence.â
⸠âThis is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,â she said.
⸠âThis,â he said, âis a sentence split by a dialogue tag.â
⸠âThis is a sentence,â she said. âThis is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.â
⸠âThis is a sentence followed by an action.â He stood. âThey are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.â
⸠She said, âUse a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.â
⸠âUse a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,â he said.
âUnless there is a question mark?â she asked.
âOr an exclamation point!â he answered. âThe dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because itâs not truly the end of the sentence.â
⸠âPeriods and commas should be inside closing quotations.â
⸠âHey!â she shouted, âSometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.â
However, if itâs not dialogue exclamation points can also be âoutsideâ!
⸠âDoes this apply to question marks too?â he asked.
If itâs not dialogue, can question marks be âoutsideâ? (Yes, they can.)
⸠âThis applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically expressââ
âInterruptionâ â but there are situations dashes may be outside.
⸠âYouâll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses donât have a comma after them eitherâŚâ she said.
⸠âMy teacher said, âUse single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.ââ
⸠âUse paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,â he said.
âThe readers will know itâs someone else speaking.â
⸠âIf itâs the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
âThis shows itâs the same character continuing to speak.â

Iâm so so sorry for the long post but please please please pay attention and spread this
WHAT IS THE EARN IT ACT?
The EARN IT Act has been roundly condemned by nearly every major LGBTQ+ advocacy and human rights organization in the country. This is a bill that will make children less safe, undermine online safety and security, and trample free expression, because it carves out another exception to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (CDA 230), which the ACLU describes as âfoundational to modern online communications.â This has been the law that has let the internet grow into what it is today, weâve had this law since the 90s. (For context, Trump wanted to get rid of this law because he knew it would lead to mass govt surveillance and censorship of minorities online.)
The EARN IT Act will lead to online censorship. Platforms will be incentivized to scan their usersâ communications and censor all sex-related content, including sex education, literally anything lgbt, transgender or non-binary education and support systems, and sex worker communication according to the ACLU. All this in the name of âprotecting kidsâ and âfighting CSEMâ, both of which the bill does nothing of the sort. In fact it makes fighting CSEM even harder.
If this bill passes, we're going to see most, if not all, adult content and accounts removed from mainstream platforms, for fear of the liability that could come with ever accidentally hosting CSAM, as well as the erasure of end-to-end encryption on messaging platforms.
This is really not a drill. Anyone who makes or consume anything âadultâ online has to be prepared to fight Sen. Blumenthal's EARN IT Act, brought back from the grave by a bipartisan consensus to destroy Section 230.
EARN IT will open the way for politicians to define the category of âpornography" as they â or the lobbies that fund them â please, (Right now, right wing organizers are catgorizing books about racism as âpornâ to ban them from schools) which is a cherished goal of organizations that seek to reintroduce obscenity prosecutions for content now protected by Free Speech jurisprudence. This will 1000000% be used to eradicate anything LGBT online.
What this bill says it does on the surface is make platforms liable for their usersâ activity if that activity involves sex and minors. However, because of 230, platforms are not liable at all about their users' activity. This has allowed platforms to grow and thrive and many niches online to as well. The bill also creates an unelected commission to create âbest practicesâ to combat online child sexual exploitation. While these recommendations are nominally voluntary (so Americans have no decision on who gets to be on it), platforms that refuse to comply will be liable for criminal prosecutions and lawsuits should the government decide any of their users is engaging in online child sexual exploitation.
This is already a nightmare enough. But the bill also DESTROYS ENCRYPTION, you know, the thing protecting literally anyone or any govt entity from going into your private messages and emails and anything on your devices and spying on you.
This bill is going to finish what FOSTA/SESTA started. And that should terrify you.
Senator Blumenthal (Same guy who said âFacebook should ban finstaâ) pushed this bill all of 2020, literally every activist (There were more than half a million signatures on this site opposing this act!) pushed hard to stop this bill. Now he brings it back, doesnât show the text of the bill until hours later, and itâs WORSE. Instead of fixing literally anything in the bill that might actually protect kids online, Bluemnthal is hoping to fast track this and shove it through, hoping to get little media attention other than propaganda of "protecting kids" to support this shitty legislation that will harm kids.
The entire EARN IT act is based on *multiple* misunderstandings of the law and reality. It's a really really really bad policy that will do serious harm. But because Senator Blumenthal wants headlines, he'll pretend that it "helps protect the children." It won't. It'll do real damage. It will make CSEM much much worse.
One of the many reasons this bill is so dangerous: It totally misunderstands how Section 230 works, and in doing so (as with FOSTA) it is likely to make the very real problem of CSAM worse, not better. Section 230 gives companies the flexibility to try different approaches to dealing with various content moderation challenges. It allows for greater and greater experimentation and adjustments as they learn what works -- without fear of liability for any "failure." Removing Section 230 protections does the opposite. It says if you do anything, you may face crippling legal liability. This actually makes companies less willing to do anything that involves trying to seek out, take down, and report CSAM because of the greatly increased liability that comes with admitting that there is CSAM on your platform to search for and deal with. This liability would allow anyone for any reason to sue any platform they want, suing smaller ones out of existence. Look at what is happening right now with book bans across the nation with far right groups. This is going to happen to the internet if this bill passes.
(Remember, the state department released a report in December 2021 recommending that the government crack down on "obscenity" as hard the Reagan Administration did. If this bill passes, it could easily go way beyond shit red states are currently trying. It is a goldmine for the fascist right that is currently in the middle of banning every book that talks about race and sexuality across the US.)
NCOSE, the far right anti-LGBT hate group behind the global anti-sex legislations, is pushing the idea that any form of sexual expression, including talking about HEALTH, leads to sex trafficking. Their goal is to eliminate all sex, anything gay, and everything that goes against their idea of âGodâ from the internet and hyper disney-fy and sanitize it. This is a highly coordinated attack on multiple fronts.
The reason these bills keep showing up is because there is this false lie spread by organizations like NCOSE that platforms do nothing about CSEM online. However, platforms are already liable for child sexual exploitation under federal law. Tech companies sent more than 45 million+ instances of CSAM to the DOJ in 2019 alone, most of which they declined to investigate. This shows that platforms are actually doing everything in their power already to stop CSEM by following already existing laws. The Earn It Act includes zero resources for proven investigation or prevention programs. If Senator Bluementhal actually cared about protecting youth, why wouldnât he include anything to actually protect them in his shitty horrible bill?
The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) along with a coalition of 26 civil society organizations urged the United States Senate to reject the EARN IT Act. Groups on the left and right, including the ACLU, Fight for the Future, EFF, and Hacking // Hustling oppose it. Because it threatens free expression online and will threaten marginalized peopleâs safety while being totally unnecessary and failing to fix the problem it claims to address. The EARN IT Act empowers states to give law enforcement access to usersâ private conversations and force companies to create encryption backdoors for law enforcement. This is totally unnecessary. Platforms are already handing over CSAM to the federal government. Itâs actually likely to make prosecuting child molesters more difficult since evidence collected this way likely violates the Fourth Amendment and would be inadmissible in court.
I don't know why so many Senators are eager to cosponsor the "make child pornography worse" bill, but here we are.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
EARN IT Act was introduced yesterday! And itâs already scheduled to get marked up, which is the first step post-introduction. Most bills never go to markup, so this means they are putting pressure to move this through. IF YOU LIVE IN THESE STATES (IL, VT, CA, RI, MN, DE, CT, HI, NJ, and GA), CONTACT YOUR SENATOR AND HOUSE MEMBERS NOW. THIS IS URGENT. This is who gets first crack, and folks in all have Senators who are on the Judiciary committee.
I'm guessing this month or March is when the bill would be passed if there is no opposition đ The bill was re-introduced yesterday, already set for markup this Thursday. This feels like an attempt to fast track it this month. Additionally the current makeup of Congress favors those who want it passed. Back in 2020 it was mostly Senate republicans and democrats who are basically republicans (just like now, check the sponsors) pushing it with Ron Wyden using the filibuster to stop their efforts. The house dems didn't want to give Trump a win and needed to appear as pro-privacy/free speech for the 2020 election. Now the dems have the presidency, both chambers of Congress and if you've noticed have spent a few years repeatedly demanding social media censorship and desperately want to give Biden victories. biden isn't like obama who opposed sopa/pipa to appeal to younger voters. This is similar to how FOSTA passed with the group who made it happen last time back again. Far as I'm aware Wyden hasn't spoken about new earn it yet but even if he does oppose it, it's very possible there will be enough Senate democrats to join the republicans in passing it beating a filibuster. Then pelosi's band of house idiots pass it and we have to choose between breaking the law because they can't stop us from using encryption or being obedient sheep to a group who consider themselves above laws.
It already has a fifth of the Senate cosponsoring it. There is a very very very real chance this bill becomes law. This is an uphill battle that's going to happen fast and quick. PLEASE, FIGHT NOW.

Center for Democracy and Technologyâs Statement
TLDR: The EARN IT Act will lead to online censorship of any and all adult & lgbt content across the entire internet, open the floodgates to mass surveillance the likes which we haven't seen before, lead to much more CSEM being distributed online, and destroy encryption. Call 202-224-3121 to connect to your house and senate representative and tell them to VOTE NO on this bill that does not protect anyone and harms everyone.
