New Year, New Grimoire

With the year coming to a close, now is as good a time as any to start a new grimoire or book of shadows. Maybe it’s your first, maybe it’s your 10th. But there’s just something nice about starting a new magical journal around New Years.

This post is going to be similar to my “Great Big Wichy Video Starter Kit For Beginners” in that it is essentially a YouTube playlist, a curated list of the videos that helped me the most.

First Things First, You’ll Need A Book

You can use anything from journals, to binders, to planners, to sketchbooks, but if you can’t seem to find the perfect one in any stores, you can make one yourself!

You should consider how you will express yourself in your book. Writing? Drawing? Painting? Making collages? All of the above?

You might also want something more specific, like a dream journal, or a bullet journal for weekly and monthly intention setting. You can be as specific or as general as you want!

The First Page Is The Hardest

How do you begin? An “About Me” page with your natal or solar chart? Maybe your personal rules you’ve set for yourself?

Witch Tip:

Get a copy of the map of your area. Not a country map, a state map, or even a county map. Your area. You can print off a Google map if a commercial version isn't available.

Take the map with you everywhere you go. Make notes on it of things you notice - does one area feel different to you? Does a tree live among many dead ones? Do you see the same cat sitting on the same fence post at the same time every morning? Where do bees live? What crossroads catch your eye? Is there a cemetary?

Once you've filled the map with your observations, keep it in your grimoire for reference.
