It's that time again!

Snowbaird Valentine Event!

The prompt for today is birds u.ù

As usual, thanks to @snowbaird-events ( @burntblueberrywaffles ) for this event 💖

Birds

During the summer break, after he has been forced to work hand in hand with Dr Gaul on the new edition of the Hunger Games, Coriolanus has asked and been granted to spend the summer at Twelve. President Ravinstill has made the first house built in the Victory’s village available to him also because, in fact, he is taking Lucy Gray home to see her family.

Lucy Gray shakes his hand throughout the train journey, without saying anything.

She too knows that the Hunger Games are an evil he is forced to endure, but there is a limit even to his acting ability.

***

In the Twelve everything is better. They are no longer at the Seam - although coal dust still gets everywhere - and the Coveys have huddled together, happy and excited to have Lucy Gray back for a month and a half all to themselves. They have moved into the Victory’s house with them - although they take turns not to leave their house empty - and spend their days together, as happy and carefree as they have ever been.

The schools are closed and none of them have to work. Coriolanus personally makes sure that plenty of money arrives every month to support the whole family, because the idea of CC or Tam Amber going down the mine gives him the creeps.

They spend wonderful days amidst music, singing and games, and then the time also comes for a trip to the lake.

They talked about it briefly, him and Lucy Gray. Coriolanus told her that it would be no problem and, then, following her glare, confessed that he would do his best to overwrite the bad memories.

So they set off early in the morning, taking advantage of the still cool breeze of the night before the sun burns them. They walk briskly; Coriolanus grasps Lucy Grey's hand tightly and tries to concentrate on Maude Ivory's voice and the songs she sings.

Unfortunately, so do the damn birds.

Coriolanus is forced to listen to their echoes in his ears for as long as it takes for them to arrive. There are times when he thinks he'll go mad, when he just wants to squat on the ground and plug his ears - echoes and reverberations of that terrible day, of the song of the hanging tree smashing his head and shattering it into tiny pieces.

When it happens Lucy Gray understands him, and always distracts him with a kiss.

Her smile and her love are the most valuable weapon he has to fight every crisis.

***

They finally arrive.

At last they can undress and dive into the lake and make noise, and the birds above their heads, apart from a few neutral melodies, no longer sing like in his nightmares.

It's shaping up to be a perfect day.

They soak for the whole morning and then engage in various other activities and games - Coriolanus has brought a real ball and a pack of cards, and everyone enjoys themselves.

Then, after lunching on fish - caught by Tam Amber and CC - and bread and cheese - brought from home - they all lie down in the shade of the trees, praying that it will be enough to combat the heat.

Lucy Gray has laid her head on his chest and has one leg entwined with his. It seems that not even the mugginess is enough to keep them physically apart , and Coriolanus is perfectly fine with that. He caresses her hair and she begins to murmur a quiet melody.

Immediately the Mockingjay stop singing, and then imitate her. Coriolanus' hand stops and so does Lucy Gray, raising her face to his, worried.

“Sorry,” she murmurs.

Coriolanus smiles.

"It's not your fault" he replies to her "Nor theirs" he adds, under his breath.

Holding her still helps him keep his mind clear of terrible memories. The tiredness and peace that pervaded him that morning also help to keep him calm.

Lucy Gray smiles and leans in to leave a small kiss on his cheek.

"They are the true example of freedom, you know?"

"The Mockingjay?"

"No, birds in general. I'd like to be like them" Lucy Gray pauses "That's what they call me at the capital, isn't it? Songbird. I wish I had a pair of wings, and I could live and sing in the sky for the rest of my life."

Away from me.

Coriolanus turns to her and grabs her, sinking his face into her hair.

"I'm sorry," he tells her, as his heart breaks for the umpteenth time, "If you feel trapped at home.

If I'm not enough.

Lucy Gray bursts out laughing and returns his squeeze.

"I didn't say that, silly."

Coriolanus knows that he cannot afford to make demands on her. He knows that Lucy Gray is a free spirit, and that trying to force her into a trap would lead to her dying little by little, day by day. At the capital, she expresses her need for freedom by singing all over the place; she enjoys her fame as the Victor to have the doors open in any club that tickles her fancy. And Coriolanus has learnt to let her go and hush the terrible, insistent voice that tells him she will find someone else.

But here it is more difficult.

Here, in the Twelve, it is established that Lucy Gray belongs to no one.

Least of all to him.

Coriolanus hopes that it will be enough to keep showing her love day by day, to make her stay.

***

University has been going on for a fortnight when one afternoon Coriolanus comes home and Tigris announces that Lucy Gray is waiting for him in the roof garden.

Curious, after hurriedly changing his clothes, Coriolanus goes up and is stunned when he sees, in the middle of the rose garden, a huge aviary.

It is a wonderful cage, gilded and decorated with wrought-iron roses. It has inside it a lot of small bowls with grains at different heights, others with water, and various bird handles as well as hanging cuttlefish bones.

And the birds are there. Some are hopping on sticks, some have decided to take a bath, some are eating. They hum, but the wonderful melody he hears is that of Lucy Gray, standing in front of the aviary enchanting the birds.

Coriolanus, past the first moment of surprise, approaches and embraces her from behind, interrupting her song.

That is the moment when he realizes that the aviary has no little door, that the birds can come and go as they please.

Lucy Gray raises her head, staring up at him from below with a huge smile.

"There are no Mockingjay here," she tells him, "No bad memories. But, you see? Even in the city the little birds live ".

At that moment two of them come out of their cage with a shake of their wings and disappear into the sky.

"This is a safe place. With food, water, fun and fragrant flowers," Lucy Gray continues, "A home to come back to again and again. A safe choice."

You are my safe choice , Lucy Gray is telling him, the place I want to return to.

Coriolanus smiles and spins her around in his arms until they are facing each other. He leans towards her and kisses her passionately, and she reciprocates by sinking her hands into his blond curls.

Her. Lucy Gray.

His wonderful songbird.

Who chooses him day after day, never leaving him alone again.

For snowbairdsmutweek @snowbaird-events Day 7: outdoor sex

the meadow scene but make it ✨ smut ✨

@backtothestart02

“You found me,” Lucy Gray said. In District 12? In Panem? In the world itself? Never mind, it didn’t matter. “You knew I would.” “Hoped you would. Didn’t know. The odds didn’t seem in my favor.” She leaned back enough to free a hand and brushed his lips with her fingers. He felt the calluses from her guitar strings, the soft surrounding skin, as she examined the previous night’s injury. Then, almost shyly, she kissed him, sending shock waves through his body. Ignoring the pain in his lips, he responded, hungry and curious, every nerve in his body awake. He kissed her until his lip started to bleed a little, and would have kept going had she not pulled away. Lucy Gray wiped at the blood on his lip. “You’re bleeding,” she whispered, concern evident in her tone.

Coriolanus swiped his lips impatiently. “I don’t care.” Then suddenly, he thought, oh no. She must think he looks hideous with the swollen bleeding lip. Sejanus had told him the look worked for him, but why had he trusted his opinion anyway? He should’ve trusted his instinct. Before Lucy Gray could cause permanent damage to his ego, Coriolanus opened his mouth to reassure her. “It’ll heal in a few days.” Lucy Gray stared at him oddly before giving a laugh of surprise. “I know,” she said. “I just didn’t want to hurt you.”

You’re hurting me more by staying away, Coriolanus thought, but didn’t say it because perhaps it was a tad bit too dramatic. “You’re not,” he said instead. “Hurting me. I barely felt anything.” Lucy Gray raised her eyebrow like she didn’t believe him, but she slowly leaned forward again. She laughed softly, tracing her fingers across his lips. “I like you this way. You look like quite the rogue, Coryo.”

At the compliment and the nickname, Coriolanus blushed. “Does that mean you’ll kiss me again?” he asked stupidly. In answer, Lucy Gray moved her mouth to his.

Coriolanus felt warm all over as they kissed once more, Lucy Gray licking the blood off of his lips before moving her tongue inside his mouth. He tasted the salt of his own blood as the kiss deepened, Lucy Gray digging her fingers into his head while his own hands got tangled in curls. There was a loud crunching sound that Coriolanus realized was the ice he had brought for Lucy Gray. Reluctantly, he pulled away slightly, lifting his leg and offering it to her. “Ice for you,” he said. Lucy Gray beamed upon taking it. “This has to be the coldest thing on this side of November,” she said. Then before Coriolanus could react, she pulled off her shirt and poured half of the melting ice down her chest.

She was wearing a lacy bra, a pretty thing that would be typical of Capitol ladies. As the cloth became soaked, the swell of Lucy Gray’s breasts became fully visible. Coriolanus swallowed. He had never felt like this before. Wanting, needing her… he hadn’t understood what others meant when they described the feeling. Until now.

Feeling nervous, Coriolanus untucked his shirt and pulled it over his head. Lucy Gray poured the other half of the ice over his chest, gently pushing him to the ground and spreading the ice water more thoroughly with her hands. With a sudden disconcerting thought, Coriolanus recalled that Lucy Gray had done this before while he hadn’t.

He hated it, hated feeling so vulnerable, hated not having a clue what he was doing, hated that somebody else would know that. Even if it was Lucy Gray.

She slid her pants off, and Coriolanus tried to take off the lacy bra, fumbling with the buttons. He stared at her as she climbed on top of him, palming his length through his pants. When she moved to unzip him, he froze.

He had no idea what he was doing, no clue at all, and he was going to look stupid and immature before Lucy Gray, and he hated that he cared this much anyway. Festus seemed to have no such problems with this stuff; why couldn’t he be the same way?

Lucy Gray held his face in her hands, staring deep into his eyes. “Coryo, are you ok?” For some reason, those four words made tears fall from his eyes. This was so humiliating, for Lucy Gray to see him like this. Like he was on the edge of breaking.

Maybe he had been for a while. He had maintained the facade of normalcy in the capitol while he was starving at home. He had tried to remain calm even as his girl was taken into the arena to die. He had tried to remain sane even as he was expelled and sent to the districts to be a peacekeeper for the next twenty years. Sejanus coming with him and the possibility of upgrading to officer and returning to the capitol that way had kept him alive. But somehow, this act, this thing that came so naturally to others, was causing the cracked pieces of his soul to break entirely.

Lucy Gray, however, did not laugh or sneer. She did not mock him or even utter a word. She bent over him, tracing each tear with her lips and wiping it away. Her face was smeared with his blood, and he imagined his was the same now. Coriolanus was no poet, yet he could appreciate the artistry of it. Both of them killers after going into the arena, now smeared in each other’s blood.

“Coryo,” she murmured again, her dark curls brushing against his neck. “Coryo, do you trust me?”

Trust. Such a difficult thing to give out. There was so few people that Coriolanus trusted. Tigris. Clemensia, at least before the snakes incident. Festus, but only to some extent. Sejanus, but only because he seemed too foolish and straightforward to betray Coriolanus. His grandma’am, as long as she didn’t wander out in public.

He loved Lucy Gray; that much was certain. But did he trust Lucy Gray? Was love synonymous with trust, or something given along with love? Or were they separate entities?

He supposed it didn’t matter. Lucy Gray had had a chance to escape the arena, and she had chosen to save him from a burning log instead. She seemed so overjoyed to have him here in District 12. They had been through so much together. How could he not trust her?

At last, Coriolanus found his voice. “Yes,” he murmured back. “I trust you, Lucy Gray.”

At that statement, Lucy Gray slowly slid Coriolanus’s pants off of his body. She completed the unbuttoning job Coriolanus had started on her bra, letting the thin fabric drop to the grass. It was not long before they were both utterly naked before each other, and although it was only their bodies, Coriolanus felt as if his heart were being laid bare as well.

Cautiously, Coriolanus lifted the back of his hand to Lucy Gray, starting from her forehead, down the slope of her nose, over her lips, across her neck and collarbone, from her shoulder down to her wrist, before moving to her breasts, down her waist, over her hips, settling on her thigh. Lucy Gray answered by kissing across his pecs before biting his shoulder. Coriolanus gasped.

“Mine,” Lucy Gray breathed against his skin. “You are mine, Coriolanus Snow.”

Coriolanus shuddered as she lightly circled her fingers across his dick. Holy hell, it was sensitive. He couldn’t help but arch towards her hand, towards whatever she was doing to cause that feeling. When Lucy Gray replaced her hands with her mouth, Coriolanus couldn’t hold back his moan. His fingers dug into the grass as he rode her mouth, her tongue. He was overwhelmed by sensation, mind foggy with pleasure. He could barely think around the fact that Lucy Gray was having sex with him, that it was probably the best feeling in his life. Soon afterward, he felt the muscles in his groin and glutes begin to tighten, and he saw stars as Lucy Gray continuing to suck him until his body finally relaxed. He didn’t know what that was, but it must be good.

Lucy Gray lifted her head, some sort of undetermined substance covering her face. Definitely not sweat. Oh god. Had that come from his-

Not breaking eye contact, Lucy Gray licked it. Coriolanus’s jaw dropped and he felt his skin heat from embarrassment.

“Delicious,” she said, and Coriolanus felt better. Of course! Anything that came out of his body had to be good! Besides waste, of course. “Are you ready?”

This part, Coriolanus knew. He slowly nodded, and Lucy Gray lifted herself up before lowering her body onto his shaft. Lucy Gray and Coriolanus’s moans melded into each other’s as she began to increase her pace. And Coriolanus stared at her face as it went blank with sensation before melting into the expression of perfect bliss. She was so beautiful. Coriolanus could stare at her all day.

I love you, he thought to himself. So, so much.

He wondered if he would ever be brave enough to say those words aloud.

Another day another prompt 💃

Snowbaird Valentine Event

This is the first story in chronological order! I am super excited to post. It's more heavy then the others, but, oh well...

As usual thank to @snowbaird-events and @burntblueberrywaffles and all the discord snowbaird server 🥰

6. Rainbow

He remembers it as if only one day had passed.

The slow search in the forest, the rifle weighing in his arms, the growing concern for Lucy Gray who did not answer his call. The orange shawl on a bramble, dirty and abandoned; the terror that paralyzed him and then the pain of the snake bite.

And then his head, which split in half.

Kneeling on the hard ground of the forest, looking at the wound on his arm, time stretched on and on. The damn birds began to sing. The terror that Lucy Gray is lost or hurt is swept away by the burning sensation of betrayal; the rain falls and he feels it like bullets on his head, on his body.

"Lucy Gray!" a scream filled with frustration as rejection takes hold of him, as it paralyzes him, as he cannot believe that, that she, that....

And, then, two arms wrap around him.

"I'm here," Lucy Gray murmurs, her head resting on his back, "I'm here, Coriolanus. It is not poisonous. It's not poisonous, I swear."

Coriolanus does not know whether it is reality or a dream - a nightmare - and he crumples in on himself, grabs his head. He closes his eyes and the world is a kaleidoscope; he is in a house of mirrors, where Lucy Gray's songs bounce and taunt him, where those damned birds do not stop tormenting him. He sees them, even with his eyes closed. He sees their beaks now pointed, their little legs full of deadly claws.

"Make them stop" he sobs, as he cries in agony "Make them stop".

The only foothold he has with reality is the grip of Lucy Gray's arms on his waist. She anchors him, holds him still, shuts off all excess as he feels himself dying inside little by little, as betrayal mingles with rejection and finally pain.

As he turns back, slowly, one labored step at a time.

She, who is singing, perhaps to try to console him, perhaps to stem the enormous panic attack that has pervaded him, stops. The Mockingjays echo her notes for the last time and then the forest fades away; only the sound of rain remains.

Coriolanus calms down. Slowly, as the minutes tick by, he comes to recognise what is tangible and what is not. The grip on his waist. The weight of Lucy Gray on his back.

Real or not real?

With difficulty he pulls his fingers away from his head, frees his ears from the hands he had pressed against them, in an attempt to turn off any noise - real or imaginary. He opens his eyes. He straightens his back, one painful inch at a time.

He turns around, inhaling at the top of his lungs.

And she is there.

Lucy Gray is there. She's still holding him by the waist but she's flinched, to be seen.

"Forgive me" she tells him, the tears on her face mingling with the rain "I was afraid".

Coriolanus bursts into tears again and holds her in his arms. Lucy Gray caresses him, comforts him. She no longer sings, does not allow the birds to imitate her, to torture him again. She merely waits for him to vent everything with tears, until Coriolanus feels drained and without strength.

Eventually, they break away. They stand up. Lucy Gray grabs the rifle and Coriolanus grabs the shawl. They hold each other's hand.

They walk back to the hut by the lake.

The rain slows down and, by the time they arrive, it has disappeared completely. They sit on the shore of the lake, indifferent to the wetness. They are already soaked from head to toe.

Lucy Gray puts the gun down behind her and takes the shawl from his hands; she drapes it around her shoulders again. She smiles, but her eyes are still sad.

"You lied to me, Coriolanus" she tells him, neutral, without accusing him "And then I saw it. I saw, in your eyes, when we found the weapons, that you were thinking of leaving me."

Coriolanus has no excuse. What Lucy Gray is telling him is true.

He turns his face away, stares at the horizon, for he does not have the courage to look her in the face.

"... I was lying to myself" he whispers finally "Because if I say it, I must also admit that it is true".

Lucy Gray sighs.

"Sejanus?"

Coriolanus nods.

"I thought his father saved him" he finally admits "I tried to save him. They denied me the call" he turns again to look at her "I swear, Lucy Gray" he concludes, fiery.

Because it is the truth. It is the truth and also the only way he can live with himself now.

Lucy Gray caresses his cheek and smiles. She is still sad. There is still the second unfinished business between them.

"You are not made for this life, Coriolanus."

Coriolanus closes his eyes and leans against her hand. He inhales deeply, and then turns back to the horizon.

The rainbow has sprung up.

"We'll make it work," he replies, his mind back to work - healthy again, ready to look for the best way out.

"How?" asks Lucy Gray.

Coriolanus begins to speak, staring at the rainbow. The serenity after the rain. The promise of a thousand colors.

Lucy Gray, his girlfriend.

Whom he plans to save, paying any price.

***

At the base no one noticed his little outing that morning. The nurse to whom he shows his arm reassures him that the bite is not poisonous, and that it is normal for snakes to come out of their lair during the rain.

Coriolanus faces his last days as a Peacekeeper in District Twelve, before being transferred. The searches are still going on; Mayor Lipp is still inconsolable, wracked with grief - he is still staring at the Covey house, eyes out of their sockets, looking for a culprit he will not find. The weapons are safe at the bottom of the lake. Lucy Gray stands guard over their grave, waiting for the all-clear.

Coriolanus searches the Coveys' wretched house under the watchful eye of the mayor and manages to tell Barb Azure in half a voice where Lucy Gray is and why she is there. The house is clean. The Peacekeepers continue their tour.

And, finally, they arrive at the mayor's house. Coriolanus did not even have to make an effort to get the general to accept his suggestion. "It's obvious the mayor didn't kill his daughter, but wouldn't it be a smart move for the Rebels to hide the weapons in the one place we'll never check?" The search is approved. Coriolanus slips into the kitchen with an excuse.

He recognised the signs, in the pallor of Mayor Lipp's face, in his bloodshot eyes, in his never-quenched anger. He has spent a lifetime behind Professor Sickle's skirts, he can tell when a person has decided to drown their pain in a bottle. And slipping white powder - rat poison - into the half-open bottle in the kitchen is child's play.

The next day he will be in District Two. Less than a week and Lipp will already be dead.

Lucy Gray will be able to go home.

***

Things went better than expected.

Coriolanus wasn't sent to Two, but he went home. He won the Plinth Prize and Dr Gaul has taken him under her wing. He'll pretend to follow her and her beliefs to exploit her connection with President Ravinstill and, then, when he's sure of his role in society - Coriolanus Snow, future president of Panem - he'll end the charade and get rid of her too.

Meanwhile, he just took care of old Dean Highbottom. That was personal, of course, but still related to Lucy Gray. If he hadn't sent her home, if he hadn't expelled him and forced him to join the Peacekeepers... If, if, if.

He risked losing her. His Lucy Gray, his precious songbird.

He risked losing her in more ways than one - he doesn't like to think about it, he doesn't want to admit it even to himself, but Coriolanus knows that as his head cracked, if Lucy Gray hadn't been ready to grab hold of him and keep him grounded in reality, he would have risked stepping beyond the insane and the unforgivable.

For this, Highbottom deserved to die.

That is why Coriolanus knows that, from now on, he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. Without any more qualms; without any more moral restraint.

Coriolanus walks the streets of Capitol City, hugging himself in his red coat to counter the air that has become crisp. Dawn has dawned a few hours ago, but it has rained during the night, and the winter sun has failed to chase away the moisture that now seeps into his bones.

He reaches the huge roundabout before the Corso, imagining the Dean writhing as the poison-corrected Morphamine takes effect, and suddenly he sees it: behind the Statue of Justice a rainbow rips through the sky, filling it with hope.

Coriolanus smiles. He thinks about how Dr Gaul approved not only his Victory Tour project, but also his request to have Lucy Gray move to the capital, and then perhaps the Coveys, the following year. What better way to introduce Panem to its Victor than to have her seen happy and surrounded by the loved ones she risked losing in the Hunger Games? Hope, mixed with the pain of remembering those who did not survive. Bread with which to nourish Panem and its Districts, in a way that is congenial to his Mentor and at the same time allows him to hold on to his Lucy Gray.

“Of course I will take care of everything,” recalls the conversation with Dr Gaul “Lucy Gray and the Coveys will be my welcome guests. Pluribus Bell has offered its club to allow them to practice and perform for curious citizens. Don't worry, I have everything under control”.

Control.

Gaul's favorite word, the sure way to gain her approval.

Wonderful as the rainbow after the rain; Lucy Gray and her colors, which he will see again in a few days.

Wait for me, my love , he thinks, eager to fulfill the promise he made to her on the shores of the lake, I will come for you.

And then nothing will be able to separate us any more.
