I guess I’m calling this the Lightningbot AU now???

Basics:

- Ed and Edna wanted a child, and having access to all the scrap in the junkyard, made one of their own! They never told him what he was, because they didn’t want him to feel different.

- Jay booted up for the first time without a power source being added at all. His element powers him on its own. This baffled his parents at first, but they just went with it.

- Contact with vengestone causes Jay to shut down if he touches it, which the ninja chalk up to him passing out. The second vengestone is no longer in contact with his body, he reboots. Before he knows he’s a robot, he refers to this as a “freak vengestone allergy”.

- Jay finds out that he’s an android during Hunted, where a rough landing from the portal severely damages his body. The group struggles to repair him with their limited resources. A scrap of foil isn’t gonna fix your face, sorry Jay.

- Over the course of Hunted, he acts largely the same as he does in the original, and treats his robot body’s reveal as something funny and insists everyone just “go with the flow” and not worry about it. Meanwhile the others are OBVIOUSLY concerned, and wonder if the crash is making him malfunction. At some point he snaps out of it and it hits him all at once and he freaks out for real.

- Pixal knew the whole time, literally since S3, and never mentioned it because she assumed they all knew already. Queue Jay having flashbacks to all the little hints she dropped in previous seasons (ie: implying he may need “repairs” or a “tune-up” after a fight, which Jay would shrug off as her simply wording her concern awkwardly).

- When they make it back home, they cannot figure out how to recreate the artificial flesh on his body, and he goes home to the junkyard for repairs and confronts Ed and Edna.

- The “junkyard boy” insult hits him much harder after he finds out, and is extremely self-conscious about the fact he was literally built out of trash.

- He returns to the lighthouse out of guilt and brings Echo back home with him. They bond over being made out of actual garbage.

- His head is a plasma globe filled with a mess of electrical impulses that make up his brain. When people touch it, it acts like a plasma globe, and makes Jay feel odd things (tickling sensations, lavender smell, the taste of kale).

- Once he’s aware he’s an android, he can learn to “possess” other electronics with his element/soul. His mastery over electricity gives him an instinctual understanding of electronics and how they function, which has unknowingly contributed to his love of inventing.

- Much to everyone’s dismay, being a robot opens up a whole new world of puns and terrible jokes for Jay to abuse.

I don't know if I have the words for how much stupid silly "12-years-old-girl-screaming-energy" happiness gived me this chapter. I had 2 weeks of 11 hours of work every single day, I lost countless hours of sleep and hadn't seen the sun in days, but man everyday after 7pm, knowing that i got to draw this part was what at the end of the day gave me back almost all the energy and motivatiom.

i said i would redraw it, and i’m actually pretty happy with this one. i wanna explain a few design choices/hcs

jay has a medicine pouch bc I think he’d be a field medic. zane does all the medical stuff when they’re on the bounty or at the monastery, but since jay is the fastest I think he’d serve that role during battle. he also would wear exclusively converse lol. he has lightning scars, most prominently on his face. he’s partially blind in that eye

lloyd has rosacea. it’s pretty common in fair skinned people, and i don’t see it represented often in art

nya likes to dye her hair. she dyes it blue not only because of water, but also because it’s jay’s color. he is the one that helped her dye it

kai has fingerless gloves bc his fire keeps burning the cloth off, until he finally removed them. he also regularly sets his hair on fire without realizing

nya and kai are the same exact height. the only reason he started making hair spikes is so that he would look taller than her. he ended up keeping them bc he liked how they looked

cole can’t work if his forearms are restricted. that’s it lol. he also has steel-toed boots. he has scars on his arms from various hikes and rock climbing accidents

zane uses ice skates. he mostly uses hockey style ones in battle for speed, but he sometimes figure skates for fun. he always has a comm with pixal in his ear

also just a fun note, the height diff between jay and zane is close to me and my younger brothers height diff irl (im shorter)

Jay and Nya's interactions would definitely be so different afterwards cuz everytime he sees Nya using her powers hes just reminded of the time he almost drowned-

And it would make him so angry cuz he doesn't want to be afraid! He loves Nya, every single aspect of her!

So why, can't he handle being around her without flinching or shaking? Without imagining the cold, wet water as if attempted to sap his life away? Without remembering those long agonizing hours he lay there struggling to breath as pain coursed through his body. His lungs hurting and burning so badly he thought they would explode

Of all the things the ninjas have been through and come out of fine, him drowing is what's causing this mental collapse?! This-this irrational fear?!

There's no reason not be afraid of Nya! She would never hurt him and he knows this! She wasn't even the cause of him drowning so why...?

He wants nothing more than to hold her, to hug her, to tell her he's sorry everytime he sees flashes of hurt go across her face when he flinches from her attempted touches.

But he can't

And that hurts more than his near death could ever.

Okay no seriously. I HATED "Zane day". He so honestly does not deserve everything he's put through ;-; just to come back to a world he doesn't recognize and they think they know him better than he does???

U don’t understand. He’s a Nindroid. He has a soul. He has ice powers. He’s TRAUMATISED. He does not value his own life. He is borderline suicidal. He is SOFT. And he loves people too much. But OUgh he’s actually a little fucked up even tho he’s calm and calculated Caus he toucheda forbidden stick and it made voices in his head and then he was like a genocidal murderer for like 60 years and he had no memory of anything and then he was dragged out of that situation and nobody even asked if he was ok and he never questioned that because he’s lived his whole life with the expectation that he’s fine and he’s got everything under control and he doesn’t even know what mental health awareness is because no one ever talked to him about it because no one ever asked if he was okay, not physically but mentally. Because even if people cared no one ever thought he was not okay, and so Zane never thought he was not okay so he’s lived his life for probably a hundred years or so by now, always moving forward and never addressing his problems or traumas or demons, which is DESTROYING HIM, from the inside out. He has absolutely NO SELF WORTH. His entire existence is based around his role as a ninja, he has been trained from when he was a “teenager” that his worth is based around his ability to preform, that the most important thing is to save lives and the world and stuff. Which it is but like he’s never been allowed to do anything else and on the rare occasions he and his friends relax they immediately get scolded and told to keep fighting. He’s never had a sick day. He literally sacrificed himself to save the world. He rebuilt himself, and immediately the next opportunity he gets, he sacrifices himself again, and he tries to do that over and over and over again because that’s his job he states that he is expendable! He says that multiple times. He always volunteers to take the hits because his view on his humanity his person hood is so WARPED, that he believes he has less value than a human. That he is a TOOL. To be used by those around him because people sure, they’ve treated him with kindness on many levels but it’s kind of shallow when they never care enough to prevent him from getting hurt, they use him, he almost dies, they fix him and then put him back into the line of fire. His entire worldview is based on fighting.

The only person. Who has ever asked if he is okay and treated him like a human being. Is a STUPID GOSH I LOVE HIM BUT JES SO DUMB. FROG MAN and Zane is SO NOT USED TO IT that he has to repeatedly inform. This man. That he is in fact. A robot. Because he expects that to change the way people interact with him. He’s a machine, he doesn’t need a break, he’s built to serve a purpose. But frog man, does not listen.

HE JUST KEEPS FUCKING LYING TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS BECAUSE HES GOT THIS ROBOT MINDSET EVER SINCE SEASON 3 HES JUST BEEN ENTIRELY CONSUMED BY THE IDEA THAT HE ISNT HUMAN AND SO HE HAS TO BE DEFINED BY THAT IDEA. He has so many inconsistencies all relating to this weird brain he has this weird weird robot brain it’s SO INTERESTING. I WILL BE GATHERING INFORMATION AND I WILL BE MAKING A FULLY RESEARCHED FULLY COHERENT RANT ABOUT ZANE IN THE FUTURE. Okay so like. I've been microwaving this concept of Kai never having been sick before? (hc warning) Because he's the master of fire so his internal temperature is higher than a normal person's. So, I was thinking, *would* he ever get sick? What would that even mean for him?

And uh, my idea is that for the master of fire...being sick is like, the opposite of a fever. Where they would become colder instead of hotter. I haven't done any research on the effects of a colder internal temperature but! I imagine for a mof, that shit sucks XD.

(hc warning) Kai being the cringemaster he is would either completely hate being sick because he's not used to relying on others (ya know, his trauma past with the parents being out of the picture) OR he would love being sick because of all the attention he'd get.

The simulation my microwave has been producing as of late is him being this version of sick due to the connection with his elemental power. My current reasoning is that the volcano where the fire temple is has frozen over XD crazy. The microwave is crazy.

Jay becoming evil and Zane suddenly being treated as equipment and acting less like Zane almost seems like it links.

Because none of us should forget that the first person who humanised, was non-judgmental, understanding and quickly accepting to Zane’s non-human insides was Jay.

Before the big reveal, in the early seasons Zane was still considered strange and weird. His personality and the way he behaved was strange to others and the ninja, and despite Jay still thinking that, he was one of the first people to not judge Zane based off of such a thing and was even willing to help him understand how to socialise more. I mean yeah sure he was still a butt towards Zane at times but he never actually hated or judged Zane for who he was.

When Zane’s reveal as a nindroid was shown to them Jay quickly jumps in with how despite the fact that Zane isn’t human, that doesn’t mean he isn’t still Zane. Nothing changed when they found out Zane was a nindroid because he was always a nindroid, they just know that now. Jay even starts making jokes about it five seconds later, this man has horrible timing.

Jay himself seems like before the ninja he was always overly self conscious about how his life was like and how his quirks made him behave, so i think when he first met Zane he wasn’t just going to judge and push him away but instead help him and accept him.

Now, with Jay being evil and having worked under the same group that is calling Zane equipment and unable to actually feel, is there anyone out there who will actively encourage and support Zane through who he is? Pixal my love come back and fix your man’s horrible mental health. Maybe smack him with the broom your face is on.

I really miss Cole's downturned eyes from Seasons 8-10... they just made him look so kind... this is a guy with so much love and kindness in his heart... If I saw him I would befriend him.
