“They’re right,” the voice booms. I look for the owner of the voice.

There in the 3rd row stands: Jean Kirstein himself.

I love Pride & Prejudice (2005) so much because Matthew Macfadyen did the most of any adaptation's Mr. Darcy to subtly convey the character's inner turmoil and emotion throughout the entire movie.

You can see him internally screaming at himself for being so awkward around Elizabeth, or for going too far when he lashes out/speaks too frankly. You can see his longing to be with Elizabeth and his adoration for her every time she challenges him or speaks her mind freely, and the pain in his eyes is so plain to see when he catches himself pining for her only to remember loving her goes against everything set out for him and he shouldn't.

Macfadyen's Darcy tells everything he cannot manage to put into words just through choice glances, and as a viewer, I love it with my whole heart for how it helps us connect to such a misunderstood character from the very beginning.

Imagine if you were Dante’s and Vergil’s childhood friend with the latter having a crush on you. He cared deeply for you even as he disappeared from your life.

Now imagine that when Vergil separated himself, his feelings for you still lingered…within V.

You: “Can I…help you?”

His eyes widen slightly, apparently he wasn’t aware that he was staring so intently.

V: “No. Apologies for my rudeness.”

You: “Ha. That’s funny.”

The tattooed gentleman tilts his head curiously at your statement. A tinge of red on his otherwise composed face.

You: “The way you said that, it reminded me of someone I knew.”

V: “Someone you knew?”

You: “Yeah.”

V: “Do you think of them often?”

You shrug.

You: “Admittedly, there hasn’t gone a day that I haven’t thought of him.”

Him. This warmed V’s heart.

This driving motivation continued to stay strong with him even as he bid you farewell to press forward. Back to the Qliphoth. Griffon who has remained silent throughout V’s encounter with you emerges from the ink.

Griffon: “V, buddy-”

V: “I know.”

Griffon: “We really can’t lose at this point.”

V: “Agreed.”

The man turns to look over his shoulder. His green eyes on you even with your back towards him. You were speaking with the boy Nero, telling him to be careful out there much to the latter’s annoyance and embarrassment. It seems however, the young devil hunter was taking your words to heart though as far as V can tell from the expression on his face. This made him smile secretly. After all of these years, you still leave an impact on those around you. A newly awakened resolve stirs within V, revitalizing his waning strength. He didn’t expect to see you here of all places, in the company of Dante’s allies no less, but he is secretly glad that he did.

V knew you didn’t know him, who he really was, and that made his goal to defeat Urizen all the more important. Another reason for him to see this through.

V: “Have to keep going.”

I’ve said this before, but Jean probably doesn’t make the best first impression

Especially if you meet him when he’s a bit younger and less mature

He’s still polite but he’s got that nonchalant, too-cool demeanor that completely turns you off from him at first

At least that’s how he is around his friends, but when you get him alone it’s easy to tell that it’s all a front

Honestly the start of your relationship would be rocky for several reasons

The first being that even after you’ve both made it clear that you’re interested in one another, he’d try to hide just how into you he is and not put much effort into pursuing you (asshole)

But once you start pulling back, he realizes that the whole uninterested act is stupid

And from there he starts all over and makes sure that his actions reflect how he truly feels about you

He apologizes profusely (literally once a day like chill) for how he acted when you first started seeing each other, and from then on he’s nothing short of the perfect man

The other reason being that after you get past the first bump in the road, he tries really hard to overcompensate for how he acted before, and becomes somewhat overbearing

As in he wants to be with you 24/7, which is sweet until it’s not and you’re desperate for some space

He picks up on your moods easily though, and notices that he’s overwhelming you

At that point he’d encourage you to have a conversation about boundaries and he is so respectful of the ones you set

And yes he still misses you a lot when you’re not around, but he understands that it’s good for you both to get some alone time

He’s not perfect at first, but those two setbacks seal the deal that he’s a good guy

Would probably try to act all smooth and flirty around you but the minute you flirt back he gets so flustered

Hate to say it but he’d definitely act like he’s the one wearing the pants in the relationship, but everyone knows he’s at your beck and call

He practically lives to serve you

He’ll cook for you, clean up after you, run your errands

100% holds your purse for you

But whenever his friends mention just how besotted he is with you, he’s immediately telling them all to shut up

Honestly he’d probably be the best to share a bed with

Holds you tight but not so tight that you can’t get up when you want to. He’s just warm enough to keep you cozy but doesn’t run so hot that you wake up sweating

So so gentle with you, all of his touches are feather light

He also notices small things that are out of place, like a fallen eyelash on your cheek or a tiny piece of lint stuck in your hair

Keeps a guiding hand on your lower back when you’re in a crowd

Jean would get so shy when you first find his artwork, especially if it’s drawings of you

But after a while he’d get more comfortable sharing his talents with you and might even ask you to pose for him

He’s the most flustered you’ve ever seen him when you first meet his mom

She’s showing baby pictures and telling stories about him and his ears are burning bright red the whole time (but he’s smiling the entire drive home bc his heart is so full at the sight of the two of you getting along so well)

The King of date night

Jean will never half-ass a date; he’s got it planned start to finish and he switches it up so you don’t get sick of typical dinner dates

He’s always up to date with local events and festivals and whatnot so that he can take you out to do something that’s actually interesting and memorable

He does want everyone to know that you’re his and he’s yours, but at the same time he’s very protective of his feelings

Your relationship is so sacred to him and he doesn’t want anyone on the outside messing up what the two of you have

Okay so I'm not sure what kind of HC that you want. I hope you don't mind me based on the scenario that I have between my OC, Fay and Vergil but this can be read as reader x Vergil as well

*cue in some sort of demon investigation that requires Vergil and Dante to attend a Gala

You were invited to go along too as the gala required their attendees to bring their +1

During the gala, the twin split up for investigation while you were task to keep on a watch for any suspicious activity since you are not a hunter.

To make yourself useful, you mingle with the other attendees, picking up any interesting bit that might be useful for the investigation

After 30.minutes, you decided to take a breather outside

There you met Vergil, who just happened to finish checking up the east garden

You and Vergil talked a bit, mostly about you complaining about your dress that was given to you. You were not used to show a lot of skin in public so you made it clearly how the dress make you feel uncomfortable

And Vergil without warning took off his coat, and wrap it around your small frame.

You blush a lil, thanking him for the coat.

It's then the music in the main hall start to change and you saw people start dancing

You watched the people dance before Vergil cleared his throat

"may I have a dance?" he said to you and you blink your eyes.

You stutter, telling him you don't know how to dance. You saw his face turn to confusion before you clarify that you only know choreographic dance but not this kind of dance.

At this point you were a bit fluster because through all of your life, this is the first time someone ask you for a dance

Vergil told you that he could teach you how to dance.

He offered his hand to you, waiting for you to accept his invitation.

Shyly, you put your hand in his. And you realise this was the first time you held his hand

Holding your small hand in his, he gave your the rough basic of how to dance.

You told him that based on your knowledge, the female will put one of their arm on the male shoulder

But since you are short (even though you were heals that night) you can't seem to put you hands there

Vergil said that it's okay to put it at his back and you did exactly as he said.

He even asked for your permission to put his hand on your lower back, which you shyly consented.

The two of you were very close now, almost hugging each other. And this caused your heartbeat to speed up a little

You almost held your breath when he bend a bit to whisper in your ear

Softly, he told you about the footwork and to follow his lead.

The first few step was awkward as you keep on stepping on his shoes (probably due to unable to find the rhythm)

But soon after that, you managed to pick up the pace and gracefully dance with him leading you.

The dance was slow but you enjoy the moments. The two of talked about almost anything, sharing the little details that you heard back in the hall

You even share a laugh as he crack up some silly jokes.

You couldn't stop to notice that Vergil was so relax during the dance

And his calmness actually soothes you as you were no longer feel nervous anymore

Once the dance is over, he released you from his embrace, taking a step back, giving you a space.

But his other hand still held yours and he brought your hand to his lips, kissing the back of your hand.

"Thank you for the dance"

And your face turn bright red that night.
