Neil Josten is an amazing protagonist and here’s why‼️ first off he gets into the juicy stuff from page one! “Oh? Wanna hear about my dead mom? Sure! Why would I lie to myself when I can lie to everyone else?” Also ever read about a character being a bitch and you wanna jump their ass and tell them they’re a stupid bitch? NEIL JOSTEN WILL!! He will not hesitate to go for the damn throat. Abuser you wish would die? Boom he took out a hit on them. Character being a bitch? You know I get it. Also he sees problems and he fixes them‼️ bob the builder ass over here rekindling connections n shit. You see the twinyards and wish, damn wish they would talk to each other, well good for you Neil Josten is going to poke them with a stick until they do!! I just love Neil so bad can you tell…
They will never make me hate Kevin Day.
Growing up he never knew his dad. His mom died when he was young. He'll only ever be able to know her through other people's stories, silently hating himself and resenting them for knowing her more than he ever will. Even though she is remembered as a celebrity, memories fade, imagine him asking himself, would I even remember what she looked like if there weren't articles and pictures of her? Plus, it's incredibly unlikely he was given time to grieve or ask questions about his parents and family history once he was abducted into the nest. No. In fact, Kevin was no longer the son of Kayleigh Day, instead he was forced into the role of a 'son of exy'. He holds on to the sport so tightly, partially because he was raised a Raven, but also because it is the only tangible thing he has that belonged to his mom. He probably dosent know any stories about Kayleigh except for ones reported in the news, and he knows from experience that a media persona is much different than the person behind it. Tetsuji certainly dosent seem like the type of guy who would have sat a young Kevin down and told him about his mom. And Kevins relationship with Wymack is not easy to navigate, it will probably take a while before he asks Wymack to tell him about Kayleigh. Exy is the only thing he's ever been able to safely have that connects him to his mom in a meaningful way. Kevin had to build a media persona as a teen, smiling and acting like he and Riko were brothers and best friends. Growing up, he watched as Riko became more ruthless and hateful. Was he worried of becoming like him? Or was violence already so normalized by Tetsuji and the Ravens that young Kevin was already desensitized? People call him selfish, egotistical, an asshole, a coward. And, yea he kinda is all those things, but he's also much more.
I wrote this cause I was procrastinating doing my math homework so it's probably only partially coherent, I have so many more thoughts about this diva but I'll save those for another day
Lowkey, I think it's kind of sad how Kevin lost his best friend, aka Jean, in the midst of everything. Like romantic or platonic, both of them truly loved each other and understood each other despite everything. Kevin and Jean protected each other; Jean taught him French, and Jean listened to Kevin rant about history. I wonder what Kevin feels when the eyes that once used to light up when kevin entered the room is now filled with nothing but contempt. And I wonder what Jean feels when the eyes that once were filled with kindness are riddled with guilt
Post game team shopping trip let's gooooo 🤠
