I submit to you that the most iconic feature of any animal is either unlikely or impossible to fossilize.
If all we had of wolves were their bones we would never guess that they howl.
If all we had of elephants were fossils with no living related species, we might infer some kind of proboscis but we’d never come up with those ears.
If all we had of chickens were bones, we wouldn’t know about their combs and wattles, or that roosters crow.
We wouldn’t know that lions have manes, or that zebras have stripes, or that peacocks have trains, that howler monkeys yell, that cats purr, that deer shed the velvet from their antlers, that caterpillars become butterflies, that spiders make webs, that chickadees say their name, that Canada geese are assholes, that orangutans are ginger, that dolphins echolocate, or that squid even existed.
My point here is that we don’t know anything about dinosaurs. If we saw one we would not recognize it. As my evidence I submit the above, along with the fact that it took us two centuries to realize they’d been all around us the whole time.
Not pertinent to anything in particular but I do think it's kinda weird that we keep depicting cavemen in media crawling around on all fours covered in dirt with tangled, matted hair, speaking in broken, cobbled-together toddler language when like.
They were us.
Like literally genetically they were US, just like. A while ago.

Would you trust a TV caveman with a baby? Probably not
A real life caveman though??? I think they'd be at least okay at it
At some point, even the most staunch non-vegan has to acknowledge that the way we eat meat as Americans is literally killing the planet. They have to acknowledge that the state has a vested interest in keeping vegan/lab grown products from becoming adapted on a wide scale. Their denial of making a choice that would be good for all of humanity is exactly what the government wants of them; passiveness. Acting like vegans have this faux sense of superiority and you shouldnt listen to them IS propaganda, no matter how true it is on an individual basis. You're not being revolutionary by shitting on vegans and eating livestock, you're just being a tool
In class we were talking about how cats teach themselves to hunt around their collar bells, and this dude followed that up with “well you know how Santa has those reindeer covered in those bells, right?”
and what he going for was “the bells on cat collars are the same that reindeer are pictured wearing”
But what *I* heard was “Santa’s Reindeer are predator animals that are covered in bells for our protection” and let me tell you I did not appreciate that.
I think part of why people don't like to call PCOS and gynecomastica intersex is because it challenges the image of intersex people being super rare. We're more common than you think.

Can you sleep with your eyes open? Fish can! In fact, most fish can’t close their eyes at all, as they don’t have eyelids. The only bony fish that can close its eyes are the puffer fish!

If you like what I do, consider leaving a tip or buying me a kofi!
my puffer is the best in the world. surely almost all of the puffer owner think the same.
puffers sleeping in their own houses
In a pipe there are porcupine puffer and star and stripes puffer. This pipe is too narrow for these cute two but they want to be together because they are good friends.

As a defense against predators, this fish can swallow water into its stretchy stomach to quickly grow in size, erecting the sharp spines on its skin that otherwise lie flat! The stomach of the longspined porcupinefish is extremely specialised for this purpose: it is full of folds, has additional muscles surrounding it that squeeze out the water once it's time to deflate, and lacks any digestive ability.
i dont really know how you can look at the american legal system and not see it a system intended to enforce racial hierarchy and subjugation of black people in america. apartheid in the sense that there is an entirely different course of law depending on race. and thats the entire history of this country. why anyone wants to salvage anything from american nationhoood is beyond me
if my extended family says anything cringe to me over thanksgiving dinner then i'm going to explain neopronouns to my eight year old cousin
the steven universe hate is insane bc people are (or at least were) more upset that fictional war criminals got fictional hugs than they recognize that it singlehandedly advanced queer rep in children's media by lightyears and then straight up ate heavy retaliation for the nerve.
It does have real flaws that are worth discussing, but it also put their male protagonist in dresses and skirts and played it straight and even empowering, they aired a lesbian wedding on television, it was a genuinely queer, genuinely diverse piece of media through and through. It did a lot of real good for the real world.
But also the fictional characters caused fictional harm to other fictional characters, and didn't get an onscreen firing squad sentence. So, you know, it's basically ontologically evil in real life.
Knowing that trans women of color started the movement in the united states and were literally immediately erased and excluded from what they started is the most deeply jading knowledge.
It is the original sin of the so-called queer community and it damns it from the cradle.
No citizens of any country are somehow inherently bad or evil because of their government. Full stop. That includes Russia citizens, Israeli citizens, Palestinian citizens, Chinese citizens, Iranian citizens, North Korean citizens, etc.
Everyone in this world is just living their lives, each with their own complex needs and desires and interests and emotions. They all have hobbies and friends and families and favorite foods. They all have their own motivations and varying political opinions and views on their governments. They all weigh the risks of standing out or speaking up and they all make their own decisions about that.
They all fear the same in times of danger. They all feel grief and pain and terror the same. They all love and hate and bleed the same.
They are people. They are no different from anyone else, they are not monsters or caricatures or nameless bodies in videos. Complexity and humanity are not exclusive to your country, to people like you.
