LINKTOBER DAY 9: Death Mountain!
You may be a giant scary hand hydra made of fire and dark magics, but we’re a trio of plucky adventurers willing to shoot magnetic islands at you like the world’s most cursed rail gun.
(This au’s called Familiar Familiar! It’s a totk without the time travel)
Patreon, for those who wanna support me on my accursed quest!
Happy fiddleford friday, I don’t think he goes great with bright orange but my filter is too thick he can wear a potato sack and I would call him gorgeous
Also I gave him a lobster
(last anon) TYSM, i'm just wondering about the sketches of these 2 art because these are my personal fav of yours
https://www.tumblr.com/thedustyleaves/723915769382125568/i-realised-i-never-put-together-a-single-post-with https://www.tumblr.com/thedustyleaves/698286527289098240/finished-this-years-halloween-piece-spooky Also wondering, are you the kind of artist who prefer to draw nude anatomy before drawing clothes, or just the basic shape of body?
I always start out with a super rough sketch where I just lay down the idea to get a feel for whether or not I think the actual illustration can succeed. It's just a few lines, but it's enough for me to decide whether or not I want to continue with it.
After that, I flesh it out a bit and start fiddling with the composition, the weight of the characters and how they're placed, the general size of the image, etc.
I never draw the characters nude first, only if I get stuck on a specific pose. I build on 'blocks' and rely on feeling more than anything. For example, the legs on Raki make no sense if I look at them for too long, but they feel right, and that's enough for me, hah! Sometimes I'll take a reference photo of myself, mostly to understand what my body is doing to achieve a particular pose.
After that, I clean up the sketch so it's ready for lineart, drawing directly on top of those loose lines!
It's the same for the monster drawing! Rough idea first
Then fleshing it out to get a better idea of the composition and how the characters interact with each other and the environment
And a bit more of that
And then I clean it up so it's ready for lineart!
Emotion and mood are so important when creating my artwork. How to create emotive art? It’s a super complex and layered topic which I have a lot of thoughts about! There’s techniques you can use, but there’s also ways that you can tweak your workflow and mindset so that you create more space for emotion in your art.
Here’s a snippet of a longer video I made on this topic ✨ The full tutorial on creating emotive art which you can get through my Patreon!
LINKTOBER DAY 21: Water Temple
Sidon grapples the horrors of the water temple guardian while Link and Zelda beeline for the terminal.
And they got a weird rock out of the whole ordeal! What a win.
(The Water Sage is a doctor. Her last student had come to her with the intention to destroy a flesh plague, and she had readily agreed to invest all she has in his quest-
-until she has nothing left to give, except a defiled labratory, a destroyed body, and a lingering spirit chained by stubbornness and spite.)
Not that our trio would know any of this. The linguistic drift in the last ten thousand years is insane.
This au’s called familiar familiar! It’s a self indulgent totk au where zelda and link traverse the wild lands of hyrule post upheaval.
My patreon is here, if you wish to throw a penny at your local Unhinged Artist!
An Illustration I did for my friend Doc Ock Sona with my SpiderSona! 🕸️🐙
