while huge swathes of garak's heart are probably just like... the emotional equivalent of the aftermath of the chernobyl disaster. I think that right in the center of it there's a little julian bashir sitting at their usual table, and it's always the moment right before he glances up and breaks into a smile. and probably he's wearing a slutty little sexy halloween version of a doctor's uniform too but we don't have time to unpack that right now

I think people forget that Consensual Non Consent isn't always ropes and force. It can be cute and sweet and functional like any kink.

Fun fact about me: I am highly averse to the sensation of water on my skin. I am autistic and it is a sensory nightmare that I can't describe.

And in the last few years as both personal and global circumstances have worsened, my ability to tolerate it has severely declined and I became detrimentally avoidant of showers.

To the point where, my partner and I decided (I asked him and he agreed) that he would assume control of my showing habits. He would tell me when shower day would be, and he'd get in there with me, to help me through it and make sure I actually did it.

It is very much a CNC situation. I literally whimper and beg him not to make me do it. And I also have a safe word in case I really can't do it.

This system has improved my general well being dramatically. I literally just cannot force myself to endure the extraordinary discomfort.

But he can. And then he cradles my head on his chest as I whimper and occasionally actually cry during the first few minutes when my nervous system goes the most haywire.

We usually do not have sex. We're very touchy people so there is a lot of cuddling and a little groping, but that's not the central point and it very rarely ever results in any kind of prolonged sexual activities.

Because kink is not just about sex. Kink can be accommodating. Even the "scary" kinks like CNC

Meet the seven new frog species we just named after iconic Star Trek captains!

At the right time of year along rushing streams in the humid rainforests that stretch the length of Madagascar's eastern and northern mountain ridges, otherworldly trills of piercing whistles can be heard.

Are they birds? Insects? Communicator beeps? Tricorder noises?

No, they're little treefrogs!

Until recently, we thought all of the populations of these little brown frogs across the island were one widespread species, Boophis marojezensis, described in 1994. But genetics in the early 2000s and 2010s showed that there were several species here, not just one.

Now my colleagues and I have shown that they are in fact eight separate species, each with unique calls!

These whistling sounds reminded us so much of Star Trek sound effects that we decided to name the seven new species after Star Trek captains: Boophis kirki, B. picardi, B. janewayae, B. siskoi, B. pikei, B. archeri, and B. burnhamae.

I subtly and not-so-subtly built some Star Trek references into the paper, but probably the best one is this one:

'Finding these frogs sometimes requires considerable trekking; pursuing strange new calls, to seek out new frogs in new forests; boldly going where no herpetologist has gone before.'

— Vences et al. 2024

There’s a real sense of scientific discovery and exploration here, which we think is in the spirit of Star Trek.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that there are at least two Trekkies amongst the authors (including yours truly). As fans of Star Trek, we are also just pleased to dedicate these new species to the characters who have inspired and entertained us over the decades.

On a personal note, this marks a milestone for me, as it means I have now described over 100 frog species! I am very pleased that the 100th is Captain Janeway's Bright-eyed Frog, Boophis janewayae (if you count them in order of appearance in the paper)—she is probably my favourite captain, and I really love Star Trek: Voyager.

You can read more about the discovery of these new species on my website! You can also read the Open Access paper published in Vertebrate Zoology here.

Post DS9, Garak does one last spy mission for Cardassia, just doing some reconaissance at some big event where he's expected to retrieve a cache of intel Cardassia has decided it needs.

As he approaches the intelligence cache he becomes aware he's not alone - other agencies are there and closing in on him.

He ends up face to face with Julian and Miles. Miles is there for Starfleet Intelligence, Julian is there against his will for Section 31. They didn't know either of the other two were going to be there too. They're all pointing phasers at each other. Then they're arguing. Then they're bickering. Then they decide "fuck it, in the spirit of co-operation let's share the intel between the Federation and the new Cardassia".

Garak has never been so turned on in his life.

"average star trek fan posts about lizard sex all year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average star trek fan posts about lizard sex once a year. ds9 fans, who live in caves & posts over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
