Liminal Spaces in Witchcraft

'A liminal space' refers to a place or time that is a period of transition between two phases. These are usually places where reality feels altered because you are neither here nor there.

The word "liminal" originates feom the Latin word, "limens", meaning threshold. These places often give off a sense of time standing still, a reality shift, or slipping in into a different dimension.

In magick and witchcraft these spaces are considered to be the boundary between our world and another, known as the 'In-Between'. These places are considered areas of great and powerful magick, since the veil is so thin there. As such, they are great spaces for divination, spirit work, ritual magick, hedge-riding or astral travel, and meditation. Liminal spaces are believed to be neutral/grey zones, undesignated and unclaimed, which makes them fantastic spots to make contact/work with entities like the Fae, elementals, the dead, spirits, djinn, demons and gods.

• Shores and beaches

• Hallways, corridors, stairwells, landings

• Doorways and windows

• Graveyards, cemeteries, and burial mounds

Drawing and using Umbra Energy

Umbra is Latin for shadow so basically shadow energy. A good way to attempt to harness that energy is to get a feel for it.

-I would sit in a dark room with just enough light to see. Sit down and bring your hands together in a cupping gesture.

-In between your hands try to visualize the shadows and darkness of the room beginning to pool and form an orb between your hands.

-As the energy builds get a feel for it. Keep your empathic senses open as it will help (if you are empathic)

-Once you know what the energy feels like and how to gather it you should be able to use that energy in spells

🌥 Sunset Magick Guide 🌥

  When the yellow sun fades

After burning so brightly for the entire day, the sun has started to set. 

This is the sun that is trying to say goodbye. She’s also encouraging us to let go of our past mistakes and fears, even our past lives. This isn’t a bad thing; it’s completely necessary. This sun teaches us to move on to the next part of our journey. 

Tips! 

🍊 Get as good of a view of the sunset as possible! I swear this one gets skipped a lot!

🍊 Where you are performing sunset magick can have a different effect on spells. A seaside sunset might have a different vibe than a mountain sunset. Some witches have a preference when doing sunset magick, and some don’t, which is completely fine! 

🍊 It’s a lot safer to charge light-sensitive crystals at this time

🍊 Sigils charged at this time have a softer energy, similar to sunrise sigils, one I find more calming than energizing
