October is a time of deep spiritual connection, transformation, and preparation for the darker months ahead. For witches, this month holds powerful energy as the veil between worlds becomes thinner, allowing for a deeper connection with spirits and their energies. During this time, we prepare for the colder season, readying ourselves for winter. The vibrations throughout the month are strong, making it the perfect time to practice our magic and align ourselves with the stillness of the approaching winter season.ย

Samhain/Halloween
(Samhain, meaning "summer's end," marks the end of the light half of the Celtic year and the beginning of the dark half. It's a time when the boundary between worlds grows thin. According to legend, on this day, the Dagda, the father god, and the Morrigan, the "phantom queen," unite to ensure fertility for the land, people, and animals in the coming year. The Morrigan, often described as a goddess of war, begins the ritual as an old woman but is restored to youth and beauty through their union.)

One-Ingredient Spells
Sometimes, the simplest magic hits the hardest. One ingredient. One intention. One thread of energy pulling reality into place.
Not every spell needs a full altar setup. Sometimes, one thing is enough.
Here are a few one-ingredient spells you can actually use:
โข Salt โ sprinkle it at your door for protection.
โข A candle โ light it and focus on what you want to call in.
โข A glass of water โ leave it by your bed to absorb bad dreams.
โข A key โ carry it to open new opportunities.
โข A feather โ keep it on your altar for guidance and clarity.
โข A coin โ place it near your front door to attract money.
Keep it simple. The magic is in your intention, not the ingredients.
Simplicity is a spell of its own. Complexity is a choice, not a requirement.
Whatโs your favorite one-ingredient spell?

A tarot styled divination method using standard playing cards. This oracle first appeared in Europe in the 14th century and is still used sporadically today. Practitioners of this divination are commonly called cartomancers. Cards can be laid in a variety of spreads and functions much like a tarot deck. Bonus: Using Playing Cards to Detect Baneful Magick
This technique relies on reading either red or black cards and nothing else. It can technically be used to answer any yes/no question.
Shuffle the deck and ask, "have I been hexed or cursed?" -while you are shuffling. When ready, stop shuffling and deal out five cards in a row, face down. Then one by one, left to right, turn them over. Black indicates a 'no' response, while red indicates 'yes'. You can see the degree of the curse by the presence of red cards. All black is a clear 'no' and all red is a clear 'yes'. The spread can be read as follows:
5 Black -ย 0 Red: No curse or negative energy present
4 Black - 1 Red: Blip of dark energy, natural defenses can ward it off
3 Black - 2 Red: Dark energy present, possible jinx
2 Black - 3 Red: Sufficient dark energy, possible hex, cleanse immediately
1 Black - 4 Red: Significant harmful magick present, likely hex or curse. Do a purification/protection ritual
0 Black - 5 Red: Curse confirmed, take serious action to uncross/cleanse/protect. Someone has intentionally tried to harm you with magick.

When is energy most powerful?
When I talk about spell types, I'm not referring to different spells, as in a protection spell versus an anti-anxiety spell. I'm going to go over the different types of:
Spell Jars Most of what's on this list are going to be self-explanatory, but these types of spells are typically in a glass jar and have ingredients like herbs, flowers, incense, essential oils, and liquids, and are sealed using wax. Spell jars do not actually have to be in glass jars, you can use old medication bottles, empty seasoning bottles, gum containers. These types of spells are meant to last years, decades if needed.
Spell Candles These are typically used for a quicker and more prolonged spell. The bigger the candle the longer it's going to take to burn all the way down. If you want to use something like a tea-light, take the candle and the wick out and place the herbs on the bottom, making sure to burn the candle all the way. You do not need to burn the entire candle all at once to get the effect you desire. Remember, this is a *personal* practice.
Sachets These are fabric pouches, with herbs and typically stuffed with cotton so one may sleep with the satchet. I highly recommend researching your cultures history(ies) with sachets as they all differ and diverge from one another. (It's quite fascinating to see the synchronicities.)
Scroll Spells I mentioned these in a previous post of mine and I've been wanting to discuss these as I don't see many of any one else talk about them. I got the inspiration from Naruto, although if you wanted to you could take inspiration from other pieces of media, from the scrolls used when summoning animals and types of ninja tools. You take a piece of paper, I prefer to use construction paper (use that colour magick!), and write a small ask of what you need and/or what you want, along with a sigil or as many sigils you want! Wrap use the paper and tie a string around it, seal it in wax if you prefer, and Boom you're done! I like to add a small piece of a broken off crystal inside of the drying wax for a bit of extra pizzaz!
A Witch's Box or a Witch's Jar These spells are not-quite all encompassing, these are historically ambiguous as these types of spells are so old, we as humans don't remember what they were once used for. They were typically thought of as a second-body of sorts, as they are tag-locked using urine or hair of that who made it, and spirits and evil-entities would get confused as to where that person's body is, and go after the jar or box.
Charmed Objects These spells are used to charm objects, these can range from your jewelry and make them in something that can protect you, your shoes - to help you go on more adventures, a salt lamp to ward off negative entities, or ornaments/nicknacks around the home to do various tasks. I like to create salt dough, it has protective properties from the salt and creates various shapes - moons, stars, marshmallows - and charming these objects for the associations of these objects.
Petitions These are letters you write or type and print, and set up for manifestations. Sealing the letters in wax definitely help give the vibe of an elder witch practicing.
THE SUN:
"The home of Leos, masculine energy, proud, courageous, creative, warm hearted, joyous, optimistic, and luxurious."
Sunday, 11:11 AM (Sunday: insight to the current problems in your life, divine intervention, and healing of the soul. 11:11 AM: magical transformation, manifestation, cosmic blessing, law of attraction, abundance, and wishes granted.)
Deities: Ayanwu, Amaterasu, Apollo, Inti, Olwen, Sรณl, and Unelanuhi (Spider Woman)
Lighter
Incense
Bowl
Water
Empty bottles
Sticky note
Marker
Flowers (optional)
Perfume or essential oil
Body gel
Gold or copper highlighter/eyeshadow (makeup)
It is important that you do this spell on a sunday morning for it will be more effective. Before doing this spell, ask which deity wants to work with you, if none of the deities listed wants to work with you, work with the deity that you usually work with, or search for other deities that are connected to the sun. Once you know which deity wants to work with you, prepare your alter outside, and put down offerings for them. Make sure to cleanse your space and energy with smoke. Take a bowl, put crystals around the bowl, and then pour water into the bowl, this water will be used to make sun water so make sure its directly under the sun. In the meantime you can bask in the sun, doing so will recharge your energy, and help ease your mind. Once you felt water has been in the sun long enough (make sure its clean!), take your sun water, pour it into a bottle for later. Then take another bottle, place a sticky note onto it, then write down your wish, and the deity's name, this will be the title for your potion. Now its time to make a potion: put a few drops of the sun water into a new bottle, put in flowers, your favorite perfume (or essential oil), body gel, gold or copper highlighter/eyeshadow, and put it into the bottle. Shake the bottle and there you have a magical sun potion! Use this potion only on your body! ๐ซโจ
Benefits of this spell: Glowy sunkissed tan skin, manifest your desired friend group, have a vivacious personality, step into the room and there will be all eyes on you, be a walking god/goddess, be popular and famous, be optimistic and less pessimistic, heals and removes blockages from your solar plexus, calms anxiety, bring in positive vibes, more energy (less tired and lazy), have the inspiration to create art, and better mental health.
