my mom writes poetry and wanted me to post some

she’s been writing a lot to deal with her grief and was wanting some sort of reach however she’s not super well-versed on social media so asked me to post some here.

Her first one she wrote about Will Wood, funnily enough. He’s a very important role model to her since she found his music after her dad died and it helped her through a lot. He also looks exactly like my dad lol

obviously one of the things has to have a negative sign. 5x + 8x don't make 3x. BUT... 8x - 5x is 3x. So we know which one has the negative sign in the factor.

the equation would be x² + 8x - 5x - 40 when simplified (by combining like terms) , it gives the original equation. the terms on the top and side are (x + 8) and (x - 5) so the answer is (x + 5)(x - 5) after being factored :)
