I've been planning this illustration for over a month now - in April, I had the patreon folks vote on a theme for a big gravity falls print, and camping was the winner. Even just planning the general composition took a while, figuring out where I wanted all the characters to be. Once I shored up a good thumbnail, I made it tighter twice before putting it on paper, and working in pencil. The pencil drawing part took me four sit down sessions of drawing, and then coloring the scan took another couple of days. I worked SO DANG HARD to finish this monster before mc3, and by some miracle, I did.
Overall, I'm really happy with how this illustration turned out! I feel like it does a good job of expressing my love for the show. I'm really glad people were enthusiastic about it at the convention - I had a lot stop and look at it with these really awestruck, sad wet goo goo eyes expressions LOL! They did this: š„ŗ with an actual human face dskjhlsdfkjh!!

Along with being inspired by other designs, a lot of my thinking for my human Bill Cipher design gravitates around the idea that Bill took one look into Fordās head, and mashed many of the faces and strangers heās seen in his life into one grotesque new being (albeit adding a few signature touches of his own). I tried showing this with a lil comic that I unfortunately never finished:
Billās design also looks very angular in comparison to the way I draw Ford (overall soft/round angles), at least when Iām trying to be consistent. A visual thing I like to try and show is that when Bill starts to become more familiar to Ford (at least that is what Ford thinks), Billās angular looks soften. It goes straight back to abnormal and pointy however after the betrayal, representative of Bill becoming unknown and a stranger to Ford again.
living shack aus would go 10x harder if the people leaned into the horror of that concept considering its made retroactively at least to an extent to be in bill's image. the house is alive also it hates you also its an extension of that bitch triangle that also hates you even though you tried very hard to make it a proper home

Weirdmageddon Designs: thereās actually quite a few more but tumblr only allows 10 spots and I wanted to show off the process. First I know you tad strange fans are going to think you influenced the design of the compass/ruler. I designed him back in may 2014 (animation takes forever to get to audience). So Iām making it clear, Iām not influenced by the internet, Iām only influenced by artist who lived in the 40ā²s. When I started on Gravity, Alex came by my desk and started flipping through my sketchbook. He kept saying āthis is great, we can use thisā, he then pitched me weirdmageddon and basically told me his plan to have me design everything crazy I could think of. So I actively started to squirrel aside ideas for it earlier in the season. When I started on this Alex and Alonzo had ideas about what they liked and I tried to follow their notes and ideas. When asked to come up with my own stuff I thought demons. Pyronica was my idea of what Billās blue flame would personify. The Demon baby was something that had been floating around in my imagination for years and was a good fit for this. I remember having the most trouble with 8-ball. Alex just didnāt seem to gel on any ideas I came up with, but it came together through several back-and-forth design sessions. Alex will famously declare he doesnāt draw well, but heās a huge liar and I think collaborating with him is pretty fun. Iāll try to post some more soon.
