I work at a daycare with infants.

One of our baby girls is fat, in the 99th percentile for her age. She is super cute and sweet. Lately, she has been sick with various breathing issues, so she has been reluctant to take her bottles. Normally, she’ll take 4 ounces of formula at lunch and 8 ounces in the afternoon. Today, I was lucky to get to her take 5 all day.

There was a substitute covering a lunch break in my classroom today. We emphasized to her that we need to keep trying to get the baby to drink her bottle until she finished it. She said, “Why are you guys so worried about taking her bottle?”

My coworker replied, “That’s where all her nutrients are. She needs the nutrients and the water.”

To which the substitute replied, “But she’s so fat. She doesn’t need it.”

Thin privilege is a small, pretty baby getting better childcare because the caretaker doesn’t think she’s too fat to be allowed to eat.

Btw, non UK users here, would be genuinely super helpful if you could boost posts relating to the far right violence happening and also counter protests. A lot of UK users don’t really follow each other, and also it just helps to increase the chance of people who could go to counter protests seeing posts about what’s happening when. I know posts about our politics; and non USAmerican politics really; don’t get a lot of traction on here, but like despite the UScentrism of the English speaking user base it’s really helpful and beneficial to share these things. The situation is likely downright horrifying to those being targeted right now and it really should be a priority for us to go out and counter this to the best of our abilities

this really just occurred to me, but what a concept...

what if Evan isn't Tommy's sunshine? what if he's actually his sunset? because like, we know Tommy's life is just as pedal to the metal, wild and crazy, do things on a whim as Evan's is. he's a firefighter too, and he's a pilot, and this man literally flew his friends into the remnants of a hurricane on a whim (not even one that had a whole lot of support behind it).

and I just...like yes, it's very sweet to imagine our golden retriever Evan Buckley be the boyfriend that lights up Tommy's entire world and makes him feel warm and fuzzy inside (and I think he still does do that).

but like... it's not the sunshine that does it for Tommy. it's the afterglow of the oranges and pinks, just before twilight. it's the way that, after a long 24 where he had to fly into a storm and make some really risky decisions, he comes home to this beautiful man who just wants to make him dinner and take care of him. he wants to sit at the table and drink wine and talk about family and sex and the atoms in the sky and whatever deep dive he's been on, but not in this frenetic way. he wants to do it in an almost lazy way, the same way they lay next to each other at the end of the night, naked literally and figuratively. because yes, Evan makes him feel warm, but it's not that burning hot, can't stop sweating, need ice cubes down the side of your neck heat (at least not all the time).

it's that warmth you get when you wrap yourself up in your winter comforter fresh out of the dryer. it's your cup of coffee that's been sitting on the counter for ten minutes, so it's not burning hot anymore but when that first drop hits, it still feels like something's being soothed inside. it's the feeling of someone's warm hands on your cold cheeks after coming in from the snow, melting down the hard edges into soft curves. its the meeting at the door after a shift, being greeted with a soft kiss and a warm hug that doesn't expect anything more than just to say hello.

it's the kind of love that comes along and doesn't send you spinning, tripping over your own feet; it just kind-of gently nudges you into this soft free fall, and for as much as that can be scary, you know the other person is right there beside you, going through the same motions.

that's why i was thinking about.
