it’s truly not enough for me to defend mitch marner on twitter anymore, i need a gun

reading comments on the hockey subreddit as someone who isn't a leafs fan and doesn’t keep up with their games, you might think Mitch Marner is a horrendous player who scored four own goals and killed someone but then you check the score and he had a 3-point game

I have a very important internal social rule, I don't talk to anyone who hates Mitch Marner

I can’t wait for October: cozy sweaters, cool weather, jack'o'lanterns, pumpkin spice lattes, halloween, autumn leaves, the violent sport of hockey….

I honestly hate the people who are taking the EF stuff about Marner and going "wHaT AbOuT tHe PlAyOfFs?!?"

Marner could have a dominant playoff performance. He could average over a point per game in the playoffs, lead the Leafs to the Cup and win the Comm Smythe. And those same people will go "well do it again next year" and "where was this before?"

Just admit you hate the guy, you're never going to give him credit when he earns it, and go cheer for another team

i don’t know. like, it could not more clearly not be why they lost but i don’t think i’m ever going to get over edm’s coach calling out reffing and that completely changing the landscape of the way things were called. the stars powerplay has Sucked so it’s not like getting called fairly might have even like ……. helped the final scores in the rest of the series but how much more hurt were our guys because edm could do what they pleased without consequence, and knew it? how did that affect things?

Leafs discourse is literally just the barbie monologue. Like if they don't show emotion they don't care but if they dare exhibit any frustration they're whiny children. They have to stand up for themselves and play with grit otherwise they're soft but they can't be too aggressive or you're a selfish liability. Have to be confident, but not cocky, play nice with the media even when being asked the most invasive questions lest you be labeled undeserving and rude etc etc

trying to figure out how to say this delicately. i do think that the pwhl is going to make some progress, and already the support for the league is showing how much of a market there is for women's sports even from a few years ago. but it's kind of been irking me to see so many posts that act like there has never been any arena for women's pro hockey before. like do you understand how many people — how many leagues!! — came before this to even make the pwhl a possibility. do you know how many people have fought tooth and nail for women's pro hockey for DECADES. i'm not saying don't support the league, but don't act like it's the perfect solution to a brand new issue

why must a goalie “perform” in the modern nhl? is it not enough that he’s kind, and has a nice smile, and is trying his best? bring back the days where nhl goalies were swiss cheese. why should he have to rise to THEIR level? why must we not lower ourselves to the standard HE is setting? justice for jack.
