I Live In A Town That Is By Majority Black. I Visit Atlanta Almost Weekly And I See A Rich Community

i live in a town that is by majority black. i visit atlanta almost weekly and i see a rich community built from so many identities in culture. every fucking day i see and i talk to the people you guys are leaving behind when you say "fuck the south!" and i see that your activism really isn't for everyone

The ice bucket challenge back in 2014 was originally meant to spread awareness for ALS. Participants were encouraged to either donate $100 towards the ALS association for research or dump a bucket of ice water on themselves, which was supposed to be a metaphor or physical representation of how the disease felt to its sufferers.

Now it's back for the nebulous cause of "mental health awareness," and while it can be a good cause, raises questions about whether it's ultimately putting any good out into the world other than sparking a trend on social media. What about mental health should we be aware about? Is it okay to use a physical representation of how a physical, terminal disease feels, and apply it to something as vague as "mental health?"

The original cause raised over $250,000, and substantially advanced research for ALS. An ultimate good. But what good comes of the new trend if not to overshadow the original challenge and purpose of the trend? Is it appropriative to reuse something that was ultimately created very personally by sufferers of a terminal disease? What organizations are participants encouraged to donate to? I haven't seen any specifics, just "mental health awareness." Are any donations even being made? It doesn't seem like many, as I've read from the many articles being posted about it.

Mental health awareness is good, yes. But once again people with physical disabilities and terminal illness, who nearly always have mental health issues as well, are having causes meant for them turned into something vague that can apply to everyone. Because it's more comfortable for the able bodied person to think about than something like ALS.

Why are all the 'grown up' toothpastes mint flavored?

I remember when I was younger I got this nicely flavored toothpaste that was this nice shade of blue and it was sparkly and it tasted so good. I actually enjoyed brushing my teeth because of the flavor of it that I can only dub as 'sparkle blue'

now every time i brush my teeth i gag because the mint is too strong.

I was sitting alone when a thought came to mind.

Someone should make an anti chick-fil-a that’s very openly “woke” and not religious. Makes the same exact type of food but it’s just. Very leftist and rejects religion.

I don’t know where or why this idea came to mind but I must release it to the wild jungles of tumblr.

This actually reminds me of a time I was in a hospital at an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. It was in a pediatric hospital because I was 16 iirc. I was supposed to be there for three days, and potentially be temporarily taken off my meds while I was there. Well the woman who did my EEG there stopped it after 24 hours. She completely ignored the directions and never took me off my meds for the time I was there.

The issue is, i am diagnosed with epilepsy. I have had it show up on an EEG before. I also have PNES, for context. Right now, my epilepsy is managed enough that my PNES is the main issue.

The fact she immediately ignored all directions the moment she saw I was having PNES episodes from the portion of the EEG she saw. If she just did what she was asked, would I have gotten a better understanding of my epilepsy?

I don’t know if this is truly malpractice or not. Just felt the need to get it off my mind.

“You know that’s medical malpractice right, no doctor is actually doing that.”

Bold of you to assume doctors actually care about what’s malpractice or not when it comes to treating disabled and intersex people
