yes it’s a sundown town but don’t even stop there during the day. that place is full of hate and white supremacy. there are numerous stories in the news about this place with black people going missing, beaten, and murdered. this town has been like this since the early 1900s and nothing has changed. please avoid it if you can.

Does anyone else ever think about how protective Sebastian is over Ciel?

Like. He covered his eyes in an attempt to shield him from the horrors of Jack The Ripper. He insisted that Ciel take his jacket so he wouldn't catch a chill. He tells Ciel to cover his eyes to avoid seeing Sebastian's true form because he doesn't want Ciel to be afraid of him. He was literally stabbed with a death scythe and came within an inch of death so that he could catch Ciel before he got hurt. He covers Ciel's eyes when things get too scary, and he tries his best to protect him from experiencing any more psychological trauma than he already has.

Sebastian obviously cares about keeping Ciel safe from physical harm because of the contract- protecting Ciel is part of the deal, after all -but Sebastian does so much more than that. Throughout everything, despite the many horrors that Ciel has already witnessed in his short life, Sebastian tries to protect what little bit of Ciel's innocence remains. Sebastian encourages Ciel to take days off and to grant himself permission to rest after a stressful situation has occurred, he tries to do small things that he knows will make Ciel happy (restoring Phantomhive manor to it's former glory, letting Ciel eat sweets before bed, making him a Birthday cake, ect), he has even tried to encourage Ciel to give up on his revenge plan and instead live a long, happy life (implying that he would even be content to live as Ciel's butler until he died of natural causes, at which point Sebastian would collect his soul). Sebastian didn't have to do any of that. Even though the contract technically dictates only that he ensure Ciel's physical safety, Sebastian does his very best to ensure that Ciel's mental health is as positive as it can be given the circumstances.

Despite the fact that Sebastian is a demon, despite the fact that he will eventually be the one to take Ciel's soul, despite all of the pain and trauma that Ciel has already endured, Sebastian still wants to protect him. He still wants Ciel to be okay. He recognizes that Ciel is still a child, and he fights desperately to give Ciel whatever fleeting moments of fun and pure, innocent happiness he can possibly provide.

Just as Ciel views Sebastian as his primary care giver, Sebastian absolutely views Ciel as his kid. He may not be Ciel's father, but it is his job to take care of him nonetheless, and for Sebastian, that includes caring about Ciel's happiness, and doing everything in his power to protect Ciel from all harm, whether it be physical or psychological.

You know, I love Prince Soma and Agni so, so much, but this is one instance in which I disagree with them- Sebastian may not be good at 'coddling' Ciel, as Soma put it- and hell, Ciel isn't good at being coddled either -but Sebastian undoubtedly cares about Ciel's happiness. More than that, he prioritizes it above all else. Ciel's wellbeing is Sebastian's life. Of course he cares.

I just think it's nice that Ciel is surrounded by people (and demons) who care about him enough to want to protect him, enough to throw him a surprise party, or drag him onto the dance floor to momentarily take his mind off of work. It's what he deserves. He's suffered so much, and had so much taken from him- he deserves to be protected now. He deserves to feel safe. He deserves to feel loved.
