During his date with tallests there is assassination attempt that leaves Zim badly injured, which prompts Minimoose and Gir to become overprotective towards their master and forbid him from seeing tallests ever again.

Ah my mind goes to a scenario where Pur goes missing and Red sets out to find him. Once Zim inevitably hears about it he immediately leaves earth to help, much to Red's despair, but there is just no way to get rid of Zim once he's decided to tag along. Red ends up bonding with Zim against his will while they're searching together.

And when they finally find Purple, he's living some really humble life somewhere far from the Empire, and this line is the first thing he says to them.

Then the narrative changes from finding Purple, to finding out what happened and retrieving his memories. While dealing with a Purple that's nothing like the one they know, who didn't even realize he'd lived a different life until seeing Red and Zim just... sparked a really strong emotion in him.
