Stede’s all “Look at my adorable Babygirl being all wanted, so adorable, so proud.”
I think I am officially Fandom Old. I am so worn out from the arguments on who's the top or the bottom (who cares), what is allowed to be written (anything you want, bejeebus), what is Problematic (I know, just tag it), what other people Should Do (they Should live their lives free of judgment). There isn't a Right Way to do things. Tag your stuff appropriately, don't read stuff you don't want to read, and leave other people (me) alone.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when canon screws you over, you throw it out a window and write fix it fic.
im getting really exhausted of female characters being reduced to invulnerable, untouchable “queens” in fandom instead of being analysed and appreciated, however well-intentioned that idealization is
its dehumanizing and ultimately leads to lack of appreciation for depth of character or individual personalities. it takes away the chance for us to sympathize with them, to see them on a human level and relate to them fully.
you do know that when jewish and romani people say “never forget” we mean “learn about the holocaust so you can recognize the warning signs of facism and genocide” not “repeatedly bring up the holocaust whenever anything bad happens and exploit our pain and trauma to make people care about your cause” and when we say “never again” we mean “take action to prevent any stage of genocide on any scale by any means, hold collaborators responsible and don’t be complicit” not “only care about genocide when it’s too late”, right? or did you think it was just a fun catchphrase?
New John and ally video please like or reblog the post if there are still ally mcbeal fans I have been rewatching this show because coronavirus
look the reality is that stan culture is unhealthy. period.
and i’m not talking about being a fan of someone and wanting to go see them on tour. im not talking about being happy when they drop something new or reach a cool milestone. im not talking about writing fanfiction and using them as a face character. im not talking about making edits/gifs of them, or anything like that.
im talking about dedicating your life to this person. seeing them as some sort of deity who can do no wrong. monitoring their every move and always being ready with a comment/opinion/statement. feeling like you owe them something and that you alone are the key that will make or break their career. feeling like you need to defend them no matter what. attacking strangers just because they may not necessarily agree. creating drama day after day to the point where your online presence is just a steady stream of negativity with no end in sight.
the internet has desensitized us to stan culture, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not wrong. it’s dangerous and gross and at this point, im afraid that most people are too far gone to recognise just how much of a horrible impact it’s made on our lives.
Here’s some examples awkward accessibility being a thing:
Your at a hotel that has a lift to get you from one sub-floor to another, but the lift can only be unlocked and operated by one specific person that the hotel now has to go find. Sure, they’ve made the entrance to the sub-floor is accessible, but now it’s a thing.
The buses are wheelchair accessible but the driver has to stop the bus, take 30 seconds to lower the goddamn ramp, move passengers out of their seats, hook up the straps and then secure you in the bus. Sure, they’ve made the busses accessible but now it’s a thing.
The restaurant has an accessible entrance, but it’s past the trash room and through the kitchen. Sure, the restaurant is accessible, but now it’s an insulting thing.
Here’s some great examples of accessibility not being a thing:
The train to the airport pulls up flush with the platform. I board with everyone else and sit wherever the fuck I want. Riding the train is accessible and not a thing.
In Portland, I press a button the side of the streetcar and a ramp automatically extends at the same time the door opens. I board in the same amount of time as everyone else. This is not a thing.
I get that it is difficult to design for wheelchair accessibility, but folks need to start considering the overall quality of the experience versus just thinking about meeting the minimum requirements.
There's lots of talk out there about working through trauma via dark fanfiction. I'm not saying anything against that - there's nothing wrong with it. But I do think there's an unfortunate implication being made in a lot of those posts. Accidentally or not, the implication being made is that trauma is the reason people enjoy dark content. That there needs to be a justification at all.
Guys, trauma is not the only reason to enjoy dead dove do not eat content. You don't need trauma to justify liking it. You don't need anything to justify liking it. You can just...like it. I get the point of those posts is to stop people from harping on others when they might be digging into said trauma, or harassing others for their coping methods, which is definitely wrong - but let's be clear in our intent and not alienate people that are just here for the fun of it. Let's not make people think they need a reason to enjoy what they do.
You don't need trauma to justify liking dark things. You can just like it and if that's all there is to it, that's perfectly okay.

I don’t care if your post is about a literal nuclear war, if it contains the phrase “and you better not scroll past this” or something to that effect, I’m zooming right by
This is potentially life saving information everyone should know.

Prompt I will never do anything with: instead of being given to the Dursleys, Harry Potter is put up for adoption and is adopted by the Addams Family
a thing I think tumblr could keep in mind sometimes is the idea that when two people come into conflict it is not always the case that one person is in the right and one person is in the wrong; sometimes two people can have equally legitimate reactions to the same thing, and those things can be opposing, without one person necessarily being more “correct.”
sometimes a conflict is not between right/wrong but just between competing needs.
unpopular opinion but i think the film and tv industries should have better labor laws even if it makes it harder or impossible to depict certain things

So you might have seen this image going around the internet.
[ID: A high school hallway crammed with shoulder-to-shoulder teenagers, about three of whom are wearing masks. End ID.]
This is a high school in my area. This was the first day back. This picture, taken by a student, went viral (ha), and the superintendent was more or less forced to make a statement. It’s long and it’s a lot of bullshit but here’s the big stupid part.
“One area where we have received a good deal of feedback is mask use in our schools. Wearing a mask is a personal choice and there is no practical way to enforce a mandate to wear them. What we will do is continue to strongly encourage all students and staff to wear masks.”
If I have to explain to you the staggering level of bullshit in this statement, then you’ve never been an AFAB person in high school. Tank top? Sent home. Jeans too tight? Home. Collarbones showing? Home. Never mind the application of out-of-school suspension, which is its own kind of bullshit that we’re not here to discuss today. If you can send someone home for showing too much ankle you can send them home for not wearing a mask.
I’ve seen pushback against him on Twitter but they’ve already proven they don’t give a shit what we think, or care about the safety of the students OR staff. Only that things look like they’ve gone back to normal.
So it’d be a real shame if people from all over blew up their phones at 770-443-8000 or used faxzero.com to send 5 free faxes per day to 770-443-8089 making known their concerns about this anti-response to a massive public health risk. Make it a national issue and maybe shame our government into acting like they’ve got a single brain cell between them. It’d just be real upsetting. I’m just saying.
